Roller Coaster Enthusiast thread

Damn it, I haven't been on a lot of roller coasters, but I wanna go on a lot more. Like for an example: A roller coaster called Manta at Seaworld. It's basically this:

ah, this is the roller coaster I went on a bunch of times :^D I loved it so much. plus I had no wait at all every time I went because I was always in the single rider line. I especially love it because it straps your ankles in. I get a bit more freaked out when my legs are dangling on roller coasters x: at least for the first bit. after a while I don't notice.

it's strange that I get more freaked out on small rides that don't have many safety restrains (because they don't need them), than a huge roller coaster with lots of safety restraints. as long as I'm strapped in, I'm fine :l

Flying coasters used to be my favorite type of coaster, but I think that that title now goes to the B&M Hyper Coaster...or ummm...heck I guess that they are both #1

Oh I agree! B&M hyper coasters are my favorite type of coaster. Just because I've never experienced airtime quite like I do on hyper coasters.

Yep... basically if a coaster doesn't have any airtime, then it sucks...just kidding haha. But seriously, airtime on a coaster is probably one of the best things on this planet.

Yes! I rode the Voyage 2 years ago, and you know how it's supposed to have LOADS of airtime, it really didn't have any at all... It made me sad... The legend had more airtime then it.

I sadly haven't been to Worlds of Fun yet...but I have driven past it multiple times (Our family drives from Texas to Iowa every year to visit family). This video probably shows the closest I have ever been...and it really makes me sad :(

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Not the mamba! Today, mamba photo drained the life out of me. Man, you would be surprised to see how many people purchase photos for $9 each. But even worse are keychains. People buy them because they are cheaper, but they are difficult to cut out. I really don't like my job.

El Toro is probably the ride with the most airtime that I've been on. I mean it's OMFG WTF EJECTION AIRTIME! And it surprisingly wasn't painful. Though if you sit on the back row of the New Texas Giant, it feels like your upper torso is going to be ripped off due to the airtime, which is also OMFG crazy.

Though when I rode Superman:ROS at Six Flags America, it basically had no airtime (which is surprising for a Intamin Hyper). Such a sad day that was.

Just found this awesome video on YouTube. It's cool, funny, and nostalgic. Well, I guess anything that has to do with roller coaster tycoon is automatically cool anyway :P

Just posted a new coaster offride video on my Youtube account! Goliath at Six Flags Over Texas. I think that it's probably one of the best looking batman clones out there :)

Haha, that first video is just amazing! I've often done that...

The second video is really well made. I agree with Goliath being the best looking of the clones. It just has just the right colors.

Oh my, I haven't posted in here since Dusty Soul was a phoenix... Which actually wasn't too long ago. I wanna go back to Magic Mountain so bad!

Yeah that was about... 3 weeks ago I think... Magic Mountain, I want to go back there as well... It seems to me the only one of us that gets to go to a crap load of parks is Coastercrutchfield.

Honestly, I think I have been to more parks this year than I ever had before (3 or 4 I think?), but my dad is awesome considering that he actually likes going on theme park vacations. Most of the time I'll visit one or two new parks a year.

Though maybe when I get to college it will be a different story:

DAYUM 4 parks in one year... I'm lucky to get one. I wish my parents actually like taking trips to theme parks. It sucks not being able to drive...

That sucks, though I do have to pay for parts of our trips like the gas and the hotel. My dad likes it (my mom not so much, but I don't live with her) , because he likes to do all of the father son stuff. He doesn't really like riding, but he likes to walk around the parks.

I can drive... ...My family's old, 8-10 MPG, creeper van! Yeah... Not going 300+ miles with gas prices as high as they are. Even in Arizona where we have it the lowest in the country!

I went to Arizona's only decent amusement park, Castles 'N Coasters recently! Maybe I'll post the trip report next.

So I decided to look up the star roller coaster of our cities' theme park, which is named the Intimidator (The roller coaster) and I found out that it's 7th place in the Golden Ticket Awards for Best Steel Roller Coaster. Those are the most prestigous roller coaster awards in the world, and to see one of our coasters in the Top 10 is pretty awesome :). Intimidator is one of mah favorite rides ever, too.

Nice! Not to burst your bubble, but the Golden Ticket Awards are not fair awards at all. Unfortunately, they also happen to be the ones the media pays attention to, so they will always be relevant to the industry. What's wrong with them, you ask? They're completely a popularity contest. Most of the voters live in the Midwest USA region, and have only ridden coasters in that area. For this reason, most of the coasters on the ballot are from that area of the country. There are a few coasters from other countries and areas of the world, but not many. Write-ins almost never win. The awards are really just a big joke anymore.

OK, now that I've let that out. I do think Intimidator looks like a fantastic roller coaster! Certainly not #7 in the world, however! Now's a good time to introduce you to a really good coaster ranking system that is as fair as it gets. It's called the Mitch Hawker's Poll. http://www.ushsho.co...artable2010.htm

The link takes you to the 2010 results. Basically, rather than a popularity contest, it ranks coasters based on one-on-one comparisons from people who have ridden both coasters in question. This means that a coaster has to be good to win, not just most-ridden and likeable. If you're curious, Intimidator placed 21st in the world with these ranking. Might fine, don't you think?

Funny thing is, 21st was the exact same rank Intimidator got in the Golden Ticket Awards in its first year (It was tied with Maverick. I like Maverick more, though). In 2011, it moved to 18th place. In 2012, 7th. Lot of positive feedback, our coaster is getting ^_^

Dude... That video is just... Awesome!

Volcano has been on my must ride list ever since I heard of it. The scenery looks fantastic, and the way it launches you up through the top of the Volcano, and into an inversion... Oh man.

Funny. I've already seen that video, and liked it on my YouTube account!

About Volcano, I don't know how I forgot, but that's another one to add to the bucket list! Those heartline rolls... Man... They need the love! (I'm a hippie too now!)

Here's another Six Flags-Pony crossover video!
