Why is Scootaloo so popular?

This is something I have been wondering about, why does Scootaloo have such a big fan base? It seems that everyone loves this charter and I don't know why? Now me I don't like her, I don't like anything about this charter. One thing I don't like about her is her personality, it just seems like she is a copy and paste of Rainbow Dash. No real personality of her own.

 

If I had to pick something I liked about her it would be that she can't fly. Makes her look more different from other pegasus. The other thing would be that she is not related to any of the main 6. It would be boring if she was related to one.

 

Also why does everyone think she and Rainbow Dash need a sister relationship? I mean she's not even that loyal to Rainbow Dash. In the episode "Owl's Well that ends well" and the episode Cutie Mark Chronicles. She did seem in to trusted her and was loyal to her. But in the episode the Mysterious Mare Do Well, she started to follow Mare Do Well and just forget about RD. This just shows that she is not 100% loyal to her and well only follow someone who is awesome at the time.

 

So tell me what is so great about this character?

Scootaloo is unique since she can't fly and she's equally as popular as Sweetie Belle and Applebloom because she's part of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

I think it is partially because her name is fun to say. Plus she seems the most boistrous of the cutie mark crusaders. She also seems to fail harder.

I like Scootaloo because she's got class, sass, and she's a smartass. I also like how the show subtlely pokes at her not being able to fly. Not really a fan of the whole 'sisterly relationship with Rainbow Dash' thing though, at most she's more like her fangirl(like RD is with the Wonderbolts).

It's the chicken jokes and the simple fact that a lot of people like Rainbow Dash and characters like them. As far as the sister relationship goes, it's likely because in "Cutie Mark Chronicles", Scootaloo seemed just as enthusiastic about RD as Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle felt about Applejack and Rarity respectively (if not more so), so it would be intuitive (though somewhat nonsensical) to believe that Scootaloo is RD's sister.

 

I for one do count her as my least favorite CMC for precisely the reasons you describe. And the fact I'm no fan of RD.

I am interested in her as a character because we as the audience know next to nothing about her.

 

I mean, we see Apple Bloom since episode 1 as Applejack's sister.

Sweetie Belle gets her own episode about her relationship with Rarity.

 

But the only time we ever see Scootaloo is with the CMC, and she has not had her own episode (yet).

 

That's only one reason though; I also agree with everypony above.

Personally, I equally love all the ponies. I have no favourites. They all have qualities I can relate to and learn from. It hurts me every time someone says they hate a pony, actually. Anyway.

 

Scootaloo is a cute, tomboy filly. She's almost a misfit in the CMC by that sense; Applebloom and Sweetie Belle both like sweet/cute things, but Scootaloo's reaction is more of a "yuck!" I find that very interesting; an outcast among the misfits, in a way. And look at their talents; Applebloom's good with painting/housework and Sweetie Belle can sing. Easily associated with females. Athleticism, on the other hand - not usually. And you hear about Sweetie and 'Bloom having a family. . . Scoot really doesn't.

 

Many people support the RBD/Scoot sistership because Scoot sees RBD as a role model, and their personalities are similar. And Scoot's just a filly . . . she's a child. Children will often change their heroes and role models, but there's always at least one that stays true. They see something cool, and they want to be that something. It's inspiration for them.

 

She's realistically just a kid, and a misfit.

Misfit among misfits. I like that line. Thing is Scootaloo actually overcompensates because of that which often means pulling the reins of leadership amongst the three in fear of losing them due to being outside the outsiders.

 

See that level of inter-pony complexity is one of the things that makes MLP something special.

I think its kind of like a fangirl thing. We all are fangirl/fanboys of one or another pony and we can just relate to her more. The same kind of goes with Rainbow. She's a fangirl of the wonderbolts and she's almost the face of mlp.

Meh. I don't really feel one way or another towards her. She's just another secondary character. She is unique as a pegasus but I pretty mush like all of them the same. There is only a select few ponies who I like above the rest. That's Fluttershy, Applebloom, and Princess Luna

To me, she's too similar to Rainbow Dash. Obviously, she's trying to aspire to be like her, but I'm not a big fan of it.

I don't hate Scootaloo, but I do agree that she does seem very much like a copy and paste of RD. Very much the same pony. I mean, at least Sweetie Belle and Applebloom do have distinct personalities from their sisters, though they do have things in common with them. But Scootaloo and RD aren't even related. We don't even know anything about Scootaloo's background or her family! And that's kinda what causes me to not like her is that the character development isn't as well thought out as the Mane 6 or even the other Cutie Mark Crusaders. I totally think that an episode dedicated to Scootaloo's development as a character would really cause me to appreciate her more.

I've always just felt sorry for her. She can't fly, and people portray her as an orphan. After I read "Final Dream of a Filly", I was very sad. She really needs an episode. Then we might see her parents. And maybe one day she'll fly.

Just because she admires Rainbow Dash not make her a copy and paste of RD. That's like saying that Sweetie Belle is a carbon copy of Rarity or that Apple Bloom is a carbon copy of Applejack. When you look at it from that angle, you see what the problem is with that statement. All of the members of the Cutie Mark Crusaders are just fillies- they're kids. Looking up to someone and maybe even trying to be more like them is what kids do.

 

Scootaloo does have a personality of her own. The big difference is that Scootaloo seems blissfully unaware of how awesome she is. This stands in stark contrast to RD. When other members of the CMC complement her scooting, it doesn't get to her head. When AB called her a chicken, she took it rather coolly all things considered. While RD never misses an opportunity to be a lovable jerk, Scoots tends to just stick by the other CMC without any of that swaggering about.

 

Don't get me wrong, she has some things in common with RD. Scoots is energetic, daring, and brash. She also isn't big on cute stuff. However, you have to keep in mind that these are just surface similarities. When you take a deeper look at the character, you'll discover that Scoots is a much more sympathetic character than RD. She can't fly, she never gets stuck on her own ego, and she's happy to play second fiddle every once in a while without throwing a fit.

 

Really though, I see so much Scootaloo dislike in this thread, and I think that it is all a little premature. The simple fact of the matter is this - Scootaloo has not had her own episode yet. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle have both had episodes where they played key roles. I'm still waiting on my Scootaloo episode. Until I get it, I'm not going to be happy. Until you see it, I don't think you can really draw any conclusions about the character.

Sorry, but Scootaloo is my favorite pony and I am definitely not a fanboy of her.

 

Like said, Scootaloo hasn't gotten her own episode yet. We don't have enough information to completely judge her and know more about her such as where she lives, who her parents (if any) are, why she can't fly, etc. Though, even though I would love to see Scootaloo fly, I don't see that happening since the writers seem to be getting at her special talent being related to a scooter.

 

I personally don't like her because she is like RD, the chicken jokes or anything like that. Scootaloo has been my favorite since when I finished S1, and I didn't even find out about the stuff I mentioned earlier until I hit the fanbase, after I watched the whole show. She has a certain character, look, and uniqueness that sticks out to me, and I really do like to watch her parts in the show.

Exactly. All of this. Paying special attention to the bolded bit. And as we can see from the greater majority of posts in this thread, Scootaloo is definitely not very popular. . .

 

And why do people think Scoot is just an RBD rip-off? Am I a rip-off of one of my friends because we're both short, have black hair, boyish attitudes, like the same music and video games? No, that's just silly. Like Scootacool said, they share interests, not personalities. And that is why RBD is such a role model for Scoot.

Well scootaloo is the member of the cutie mark crusaders that I like the most. A very complex character and yes, very different from rainbow dash. I think Scoot kind of tries to emulate RD a bit because of her hero worship of the colorful pegasus but beyond loyalty tomboyishness and athleticism they actually do not share very much.

 

I will put it this way -- no way would scoot ever have been in a click with Gilda were their roles reversed.

I can say the same for Applebloom. She really doesn't have a huge amount of special things for her. I mean, she can build. The reason that you would think she is like the background pony of the CMC is because she doesn't have a sister (as far as we know) and therefore hasn't had an episode yet, like the two other CMC's who have sisters, who are the Mane 6. And really, how can you say she has no character? She is spontaneous, energetic, and pretty brave. I'm not saying AB is a bad character, I'm just using her for my argument because you mentioned her.

People say she is a chicken because, in the show, AB called her one in The Stare Master. Also, she is basically a flightless bird if you think about it.

In the episode where they sleep over Fluttershy's house, Apple Bloom calls her a chicken. The part where they're in the Everfree Forest trying to find the chicken and Apple Bloom makes fun of her for being scared and calls her a chicken. Those 3-4 lines have made Scootaloo the laughingstock of the fanbase :/
