music 80s or 2010s music

Unified Draft

Recommended Posts

As I have mentioned before I am a 80s music fan. To me today's music doesn't really appeal to me, to me it sound like someone is not putting effort into it and the are just auto-tuning their voice and have the world love in all their songs ( One Direction ). I like the 80s because the music actually told a story in a way like the songs Livin' on A Prayer or Don't Stop Believin'. But that is just me so my question is do you prefer 80s or 2010s ( Not including Fan music from MLP ), leave your favorite Decade in the comment section. I'm Brohoof117, Stay 20% Cooler!

Pssh, slightly change the beat and a few words from the 80's and you got 2010 music http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png . (And yes I know that there are good songs from 2010 aren't copied, but there are quite a bit of songs that got copied over.) I would go with 80's music with singing in it, but 2010 techno music is pretty sweet IMO.

I can't stand the '70s and '80s. If I wanted to hear a man screech and wail like a little girl, I'd just kick him in the nuts. My favorite decade is a tie between '90s and the '00s.

Yes! Somepony who understands what true music is! ~double Brohoof~ I, too, am a fan of 80s rock. I mainly consider myself a classic rock fan, but that's just 80s with some 70s and 60s rock mixed in. The Beatles are my favorite, but Joirney is sliding its way up on the list.

I just think that Rock has changed a lot. I am one for Rock Ballads and one of my favorites is Open Arms and i really am not a fan of todays rock. i haven't gotten into techno but in my opinion anything after 1996 is trash

Yesterday we were coming home from a school retreat and all they sang was Katy Perry and One Direction.... My ears wanted to explode but then i started singing Bon Jovi and then people joined in for like 2 seconds then back to the other carp. The 80s have so much more potential imo

One thing I can not stand at all is Glee. All they have done is butcher music that is good and make it super bad ( Like Faithfully )

Snip

1. Rock has changed tremendously, and I am ashamed at that. And as far as techno goes, dubstep to me has ruined it. The only good techno I've heard (I see Party Rock Anthem as borderline techno-rock) is Sandstorm and Final Countdown, by Darude and Europe respectively

2. I feel terribly sorry for your ears! But thank you for singing Bon Jovi! (idc which song you sang, you rock)

3. SAY WHAT?!??! Okay, I knew they slaughtered Don't Stop Believin' and killed thriller, but they tried to do FAITHFULLY?!?!?!?! ~loads shotgun~ where are the writers if this show? I'm just curious...that's all! You know...so I can...get an autograph!

1982 -- one of the best years music ever had. I also like the 70s and to a lesser extent the 60's. Of course the 80's had some bum years -- 1988 comes to mind. Actually if you want to call it a "decade" 1975->1984 would be a better representation than 1970->1979 or 1980->1989.

I love 1980's music. I love all the musical accomplishments that took the lead in that time. Thrash metal came into the mainstream, Asia rocked the world with Heat Of the Moment. It was truly a great time for Music.

1983 was partially an extension of 1982 -- another very good year. By 1984 it had fallen off somewhat and had faded out by 1985. This is kind of why I look at it as 1975->1984. In essence that "decade" peaked at 1982.

Whoa now, that's just a small percentage of today's music. Ever listen to Thrice? Their music is PURE effort. They work like crazy on every song that they do, i.e. this:

Now as for what era of music is my favorite, I would actually have to say the 90s. Not the 80s or the 2010s. The 90s were where it was at. Everything was perfect, even the pop music. But now we got bullcrap.

Still, I hate to admit it, but today's music has phenomenal production quality.

And there are quite a lot of great modern bands. Not just stupid 1D or Justin Dweeber.

The other Year i like was 1986 for one reason and only one reason Bon Jovi " Slippery When Wet " Really great album other than that like i said earlier anything past 1996 ( I only say 96 because Steve Perry's Music was really good in the 90s ) Everything else is garbage

I just hate the sound of today's music it all sounds the same, to me 70s,80s, early 90s sounded very unique to all genres of music

Actually the latter half of the 1980s I tend to group in with the 1990s. Sort of like 1985->1999 as a decade and a half that rambled on. Thing is the 70s also is split... While the 1975->1984 was the 70's82 in my eyes, 1966->1974 was the earlier rock period that I also liked. 1957->1965 less so. The thema of rock doesnt fit the decade lines all that well in my eyes.

It's kinda ignorant to say that 80's music is better than 2010's because of a message. There are plenty of artists that have messages in their music, you're just looking at the mainstream viewpoint of music. You need to dive deeper. And not everyone uses autotune; mostly shitty top 40 music. Hell, I think even Bon Jovi used vocoder back in the day.

I enjoy the 2010s of music because this is the music I'm growing up with. The kind of music I can show my kids later on in life and say, I remember seeing so-and-so live at this venue way back when I was a wee little teenager. Modern music also has a message related to the times we're going through now so I can relate to it more. it's cool.

Most of the 80s music is pretty shitty. Just like now. There was plenty of good that came out, but there was just as much deplorable garbage as there is now. However, if you believe everything being made today is autotuned horseshit, you're not looking the right places. I have some bands that are from the last few years that are just... gold.

This right here.

The majority of any sort of music from any time period will be junk - there's just as much good stuff now as there was then; you've just got to put the effort into finding it. If anything, the issue may simply be that there's so much more music being produced these days (both professionally and by 'amateurs') that it might be a bit more difficult to find the good stuff.

Personally for me I tend to like older music as well... But that does not mean there are not good bands around nowadays. But you have to understand that not everyone is going to like the same genres in music. For me I'm really into bluesy hard rock n' roll liking bands such as: AC/DC, Motorhead, The Rolling Stones, CCR, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes,(old GNR), the list goes on and on and on... But I love a little bit of everything from Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Grunge, Punk, Alternative and stuff of that nature

There are a ton of bands that I have found that have came out during the late 2000's that are really awesome too... You just gotta search around.

Like I said to my 80s sort of told a story, and I just like the 80s sound over the 2010s sound and i grew up listening to Michael Jackson then Journey so i guess it is what you grow up with that you like.

note that was all imo I respect everyones opinion and if you like 80s thats awesome if you like 2010s thats pretty cool too

2012 by far. I grew up with it, and am used to it.

I also don't just mean common pop songs. I can say dubstep, pony songs, videogame music...

I think people like Justin Bieber and One Direction, Lady Gaga, and people like that get unexplained hate.

Baby isn't THAT bad, and his voice is pretty good.

One Direction is very good, actually.

Lady Gaga is, well, Lady Gaga.

I don't see why they get so much hate. If Baby was played, is it really bad enough you cover your ears in disgust? Naw, you just do it when friends are around to look funny.

From Kingdom Heart Music to Eminem to Skrillex to Gangnam-

I conclude that I prefer today's music.

Both. I like to hear the good sound of ACTUAL good music, nothing like JB or some crappy new-era Rap music.

For example, Dead or Alive and Judas Priest are some 80's bands I like, along with Skrillex and Pony Music Creators (You heard me) for 10's.

Of course I prefer the 80s(or even the 70s) music. Slayer, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Guns N' Roses and many other great bands were very popular then. It's not like good music doesn't exist anymore, but nowadays it's much harder to find something new, original and listenable.

I like pony music. I just rather listen to Journey or Bon Jovi. I am really not a fan of dip step or rap they I just listen to classic rock all the time imo

Dude Pink Floyd Rules! I really like the songs Another Brick In The Wall, Comfortably Numb, and Learning to Fly. GnR is really good too. The only 70s I prefer is Foreigner
