MelancholicMemory 2,027 October 17, 2012 Share October 17, 2012 1. The hair is kind of short. The hat is too small and a bit misplaced (it also tilted the wrong way). Also the nose is a little big and pointed downward a bit too much. 2. I see no major problems. I love this drawing 3.The hair is too short and flat. Overall though these are some awesome drawings. I'm looking forward to more of your artwork!

It could just use a couple small changes. As for the third drawing, I assume that's supposed to be Applejack, except you only drew the top part of her hair. The part of her hair that is like a ponytail is absent and that is what I meant when I said the hair was "short." By "flat" I meant that the top of her hair is too close to the top of her scalp compared with how AJ is drawn in the show. Sorry for the confusion. Crombie 32 October 17, 2012 Share October 17, 2012 The main problem you need to focus on at the moment is volume. You need to be able to create the illusion that what you've drawn takes up space. Remember back in school, when you went to art class and they made you draw those boring 3D shapes like cubes, spheres, and cones and shtuff like that? Well, those are basically guidelines to help you in creating the illusion of volume. (As well as help you check to make sure a drawn object has depth). Now, you shouldn't follow them exactly because, flesh doesn't work that way, but that's a subject for another day. (Wanna focus on one problem at a time.) Anyway, your first task is to breakdown what it is you're attempting to draw into basic 3D shapes/objects and use these to help you make sure it looks like it contains depth. (If you're drawing traditionally use very light lines and look up a few pencil techniques to help you get them lighter if you're having trouble.) Once you've gotten used to doing this, try moving on to drawing with perspective, and proportion. (I guess you can figure out sphere for head, cone for a horn, and cylinder for legs. Because that's pretty obvious IMO.) I doubt I said anything new or something you probably haven't heard like 15 billion times already, but it really does help. On a side note: I've noticed that a lot of you don't seem to like it when I post criticisms on multiple things, so I'm going to try and think what is the most important thing for the person I'm commenting on to learn and state that. Eternal_Eclipse 28 October 17, 2012 Share October 17, 2012 This is how I started as well on drawing ponies so no worries. Soon enough you'll get better and better and better! Just need practice. Overall you just need to work on the shape more.

I think there hair looks kinda short to me.. not sure what else I can point out since I don't have artistic talent. I just like admiring artwork that I can't even come close to I guess Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Pix3M 607 October 17, 2012 Share October 17, 2012 Chances are you drew from memory instead of looking at a picture of a pony and drawing what you see. If you reference from a picture i.e. looking at a picture and try to copy it by eye, you are far less likely to make a drawing look very off from what you're trying to go for. I could supposedly point out what I see here, but you're probably better off drawing from references for now. When you start drawing from references more often, you'll have more accurate proportions in memory, then you'll draw from memory a bit better.
