As the title suggests, what are some of your favorite opening sequences in video games?

 

This one was always a favorite of mine. It got me pumped up to play the game. (Rock Em Sock Em Robots Arena)

Assassins Creed 2, I get goosebumps every time i watch it.

 

The line...

"It is a good life we lead brother"

"And may it never change us"

I don't really consider FFVIII to be my favorite game in the series but damn, it had one great intro. On occasions I'll pop in the disk only to listen to, Liberi Fatali.

This intro is SO EPIC!!! Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game series. Can't wait for Kingdom Hearts 3! I love how Mickey is on the bottom screen reacting to everything happening at the top screen!

Such a minuscule opening to an amazing start of a fantastic series. The memories man, the memories! I always loved how Gengar was in the little intro, because Gengar is boss!

For me is Borderlands 2 and Borderlands intro mostly from there choice of music and how they Introduce the characters.

This game is more of a promotion for another one, but I find the intro hilarious. The whole game is a big parody of call of duty, its own name being duty calls. YouTube a play through, even though the game it is promoting isn't any better, it doesn't make it less funny.

 

"War... war never changes... or does it? The war has changed. Did it?... the answer is no!... Unless it is yes... no, of course it is. Is war!... yes! No... yes?..." *dramatic chord*

I had considered posting the intro for Ninja Gaiden but I'm sure many of you are familiar with it, even those of you under 20. So here's the intro from Crystalis, one of my two favorite Action-RPGs from the NES. I find it hilarious how their prediction for a great war that annihilated the world in 1997 seemed a good ways off when I played it as a kid, and some of you weren't even born until after that time had passed. Never did I think I would revisit this game later and be acquainted with so many people born after that year.

This is my favorite Zelda game, but I just adore the intro. The transition of music is great too! Only thing I didn't think was great about the intro was the first time you transform into a wolf, the second time you do is much cooler in my opinion.

A bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Not a great game by pretty much every standard and is generally hated upon in most circles...but damn it if it didn't have a kickass intro.

I probably watched it every single time I turned on the game, there really should have been more anime cutscenes.

Namco had the best intros back in the day.

While Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link may not be the most well-received game in the series, you've got to admit its opening is great.

 

 

This one's just a classic. The epic music, the view of the Master Sword on the ledge overlooking the edge of the forest and the ocean, the text scroll... it gets you pumped to play the game. In that sense, I think it succeeds at being the opening to the game. Though the game itself is widely regarded as a cryptic grindfest.

 

And here's the opening to Ys II.

 

 

Entertaining in every aspect, though the first thing that hits you is the music. Note that, since there are several different versions of the game, there are different versions of the opening. That one's my favorite.

 

Honorable mentions I don't feel like going into detail about because I'm lazy: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Tales of Symphonia, Donkey Kong Country.

Halo Reach has a really good one.. Well, The opening scene for the campaign is really good, At least. And as for Battlefield 3, The first scene is really the last scene.

You do play it at the end as well. =D

 

But if anyone knows about ICO, That has an amazing opening (Play Station 2)
