Favorite subtle details about the ponies.

I am actually thinking more along the lines of major characters that you see often and not background characters whose subtle details are probably their major details, but feel free to mention something about Vinyl Scratch or Lyra or whoever.

 

I like it how Rarity's mane is positioned and parted on her head; it seems to be kind of one-sided instead of a full head of hair. When her mane gets wetted down or pushed around, you can clearly see much of her bony white-coated skull uncovered by her mane, as if her scalp and roots are just naturally positioned in that lopsided way, and her mane is one very well-exucuted combover.

 

I guess the same effect also happens to Pinkie Pie to some degree.

 

I just want to kiss that bony head like Snow White did to Dopey. Or this one episode where Homer Simpson does it to Hans Moleman and says it is "like kissing a peanut".

Keeping with the mane theme, I like how Rainbow Dash's mane looks on the top of her head. It gives her that dare-devil look.

 

I also like Twilight's ability to warp, although I don't know how subtle that really is.

I like all the effort and detail the animators put into the clothes Rarity designs. It looked like they spent hours coming up with not only the original Galloping Gala outfits she made, but the "bad" ones they asked for as replacements.

 

I also was very taken with her wings in Sonic Rainboom. They could have just given her generic wings with one color or something, but they're actually quite beautiful and suit her perfectly.

I always though it was a kinda cool design choice that their manes tend to behave and style like real horse/pony manes instead of just like a human wig thrown on their heads like some shows would.

 

Also, the way that put some real anatomical detail into the bottoms of their hooves instead of just a flat surface.

I always loved how each of the Mane 6 eyes are designed, and they fit them really well:

 

AJ and RD have the same - plain ovals with one set of eyelashes - they aren't really concerned with their appearance

Twilight's are round at the top and cornered at the bottom with two sets of eyelashes - she likes to be neat and tidy, but not styled

Pinkie Pie's are oval shaped with two sets of eyelashes - not too concerned with her looks, but with a little extra touch

Fluttershy's are curved over at the top with two sets of eyelashes - makes her look and cute and innocent, which she is

Rarity's are cornered at the top at bottom, with two sets of eyelashes (one set being fake), mascara and eyeshadow - she always wants to look her best

Applejack has a Tennessee accent specifically which is the apple capital of America. (Perfectly pulled off by a Canadian)

Every fraction of a second the faces say something new.

I'm so fascinated by the "crack" in Rarity's hair. It's always intrigued me.

 

 

You can see it well here, above her horn there is a section that's not completely together.

 

In this picture you can also see there is a line drawn on her horn that separates it from the rest of her head, but this was only in the first two episodes and in the rest of the episodes her horn looked more attached.

I think it's sooo cute how Fluttershy's mane sometimes frames her face in a sort of lopsided heart shape.

...still no? I absolutely adore the sound of Applejack's voice when she addressed Spike as "Birthday Boy." Soooo satisfying!

I personally like the way the ponies curled their hooves when it's not touching the ground, just like this one

There are just so many details I love about this show. I like how when there is a shot of a character walking through the town, there are always background ponies. It makes it feel less empty, and makes it so it looks like the other ponies have lives too, and are just going about their day. Most other shows usually only have just one or two extras sitting in the back motionlessly. But in MLP there could be any number of ponies in a single shot. I also like each one of the ponies hair is animated. How when they are walking their hair also bounces a little, giving it a more dynamic look. I could go on forever but those two things stick out most to me (:

Well I kinda like the fact that Twilight, Shining Armor, and her mom all have a colored streak going threw their manes. Also I like that Carrot Cake and Pumpkin Cake tails look the same. It's just cute they gave that to them.

I think I like how Rarity's eyes seem to enlarge when she's upset. It might just be her eye shape, but I think that they might make her eyes bigger when she's upset to show how dramatic she is. (also I love how she does sad faces. And then on most earth ponies how they can manipulate their tales easily.

Something else I really liked...when Pinkie Pie sang her "evil enchantress" song in the Zecora episode, she not only stood and danced easily on her hind legs (typical for her), she did that famous finishing pose. And you could actually see her breathing from the effort she put into the song, along with the outline of her ribs. I love that kind of attention to detail.

 

And here it is in different languages, so you can watch it over and over and over and over and over and--*slaps self*.

I like the Italian and Dutch versions...and only the ponies could make German sound cute. The Swedish version sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. And if they ever dub the show into Japanese my life will be complete.

I love the way they make their eyes track (follow) what they're looking at so well. Also the different faces they make and how in any given scene they don't all have the exact same expression as the others like a lot of animation does.

Some of the little things I like include the little bow Applejack does with her foreleg. I also like the "happy eyes" look and the little grin the ponies have. One thing I liked from ACW Part 2 was how Twilight running into Shining Armor and his glaring at her after she told off Cadence (Chysalis) was a parallel of her doing the same thing as a filly in the "My Big Brother" flashback scene.

I don't really get Dashies mane. I mean, the transition of colors between the front and back part of it... Makes it kinda hard to make in 3d. I also loved the wing animation Gilda had. It was very similar to flight of a bat...

I noticed in the episode Rarity had her 'meltdown', the end of her mane wasn't as long. Maybe she has mane extensions? Not a far off concept, seeing as she has fake eyelashes.
