gaming Don't Upgrade to Windows 8, Steam Users!

Well, sad to say, but Microsoft has pretty much "banned" Steam on windows 8. They have a new Game Marketplace on there they they want you to use, and they have made Steam illegal on it. Not only is this ridiculous, but Steam is the PC gaming HUB. Plus, Microsoft's Game Marketplace sells for 2 times the Steam Game pricing, making it stupid. Not only this, but VALVe (the maker of steam), I guess you could say is a third-party publisher who broke off from Microsoft in the Nineties. Is Microsoft trying to persecute VALVe on this?

Please share your opinions on this, this is a bad situation for PC gamers.

[EDIT]: Apparently Microsoft has unbanned Steam. Not only from my sources down below (Danke to all of you), but also from more recent updates on this issue. However, It is still a problem for most upgraders, as your downloads glitch after an update to where you have to re-download the games. I know of several people who upgraded who faced this problem. (I'd say the glitch comes through 1-10 upgrades, maybe?)

Isn't there some kinda windows trend where like every other windows sucks or something :P Like windows XP was good, vista sucked, 7 is good, therefore 8 sucks?

Seems that its keeping the trend.

And whats with all these companys getting greedy with 3rd party stuff. Seriously First apple is having some despite with google and youtube, and now windows with steam?

>_> Greedy companys are greedy i guess.

Are you sure about this? I have heard otherwise.

So please tell us your source for the idea that Windows 8 doesn't allow steam.

Also, don't forget that Windows 8 was only very recently released. It could just be a bug that hasn't been fixed yet.

All the critics are saying the the future of Windows relies on THIS update (Windows 8). Most other companies just have so much more to offer. And I agree to them when they say it's not looking good.

And after looking at this topic, most [smart] Steam users wont update. Which means a lot of people wont be updating. Windows 8 without TF2? LOLNOPE

Microsoft's position on other gaming services besides their own doesn't matter much when those companies don't want anything to do with Windows 8 themselves. Gaben has been a very harsh critic of Windows' recent makeover and Microsoft's change of attitude. Notch has taken a very staunch opposition to it as well; Microsoft even made him a proposition for getting Minecraft "certified," which he flatly refused, and even denounced the practice.

I heard that the windows game marketplace won't be selling M+ rated games, but I haven't heard anything about Steam. I also read that you're not required to use their marketplace, it's just there if you want to. Are ye sure about this?

I'm going to go grab my wrench and go off to Microsoft and wrench them all to death and blow up their building with a sentry.

Apple's next! It's bullshit that they're blocking Valve off, most good games come from Valve and some actually are from the Windows Live Marketplace! Thanks for notifying us...

Well, my laptop (which is VERY good for running games) is the Dell Inspiron Intel Core-I3. IT comes installed with Windows seven, and it has a upgrade to Windows Eight, which is an optional upgrade. I'd reccommend my computer or any of the Intel Core-I3's.

Microsoft isn't stupid; they aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot with one of their biggest demographics. If it doesn't work on 8 right now, it will in the very soon future.

Erm, Core i3's aren't exactly top of the line - I'd recommend at least a Core i5 (or even better) an AMD Phenom II.

Just a quick update on the first statement Windows 8's marketplace now allows M-Rated games from an article I read on Kotaku recently. I'd show you the page but since their database is still recovering from Superstorm Sandy it's virtually impossible right now. But yeah I haven't heard anything about Microsoft banning Steam.

I'm using Windows 8 Release Preview and it runs on it all the same. Well probably because it's just a preview build. Don't worry, I've been detesting Windows 8 ever since I made the mistake to try out the preview. So many cracks in this OS and don't get me started on the Metro UI that's clearly meant for touch displays. I only pretend my laptop screen is touch out of the depressing notion that it is.

Will be going back to good ol' Win 7 shortly!

Seems like I will be in the new era of "Windows 98 users", except that we use Windows 7 now.

In 2025, I'll be a hardcore retro Windows 7 user, playing TF2 while my kids stare at me like I'm stupid.

To be fair, if Microsoft decided to ban Steam on PC's and adopted the policy of only being able to buy through their service, they would very likely get into trouble and have another large anti-trust lawsuit on their hands. They don't want to lose money over this.Especially not after a the IE debacle with the European commission, which was essentially about choice of free packaged software.

So no, they won't be banning Steam, if they did, they'd have to ban every other kind of software store/service.

Wait what? My mate has been running Windows 8 on his PC since release and he's been using Steam like it's going out of fashion with no worries. I personally probably wont 'upgrade' to 8 out of shear laziness.

I was putting interest in a good price... Intel Core i3's are around 600 dollars, while most i5's are 800-900 dollars. Either way, they are both good for gaming.
