gaming Does anyone actually use their starter in pokemon?

I have never not used my starter in a Pokemon game, I always find a use for him/her on my team.

Once upon a time, when I used to do a bit of competative playing, I would use some starters in the UU and RU leagues. I still remember sweeping at the Battle Frontier with (yes, I know, not real competative play but it's just an example) a Sceptile, a Gardevoir, and a Kingdra.

I feast on the words of great authors,

Drink the emotions and thoughts of the characters,
And sleep only once I am through with all of the stories.
It's not the ideas that make books relevant,
It's the READERS.

I always did, the starters did seem to be a little bit stronger than any of the others you would catch. At least it felt that way. But usually when I beat it, I would get the national dex, and transfer over my pokemon that I have been leveling from previous games lol. Still have to love getting a female snivy in pokemon black. Was the first one I got really surprised me.

Yeah, during the main game they usually are, with a couple of runthroughs of Ruby being exceptions. Most starters aren't well worth raising for higher level play though, so save for a few exceptions I don't usually use them post-game if I don't have to.

Heh... This reminds me of when I used to never make my starters forget their first move (Tackle, Scratch, etc.) because I thought it wasn't a nice thing to do... I don't know, I was a horrible Pokemon player back then. :P

Anyway, I've always used my starter at least until I beat the game for the first time (i.e. until Lv 50~60). Not only because I like to have this feeling of 'growing relationship' like Ash and Pikachu, but also because some of the starters are pretty decent in my opinion - perhaps not to online/competitive gameplay, but until the Elite 4 at least.

I used to always keep my starter as a permanent member of my team, but now that I've got White 2 I've kinda ditched it :/

I mean, so far I've got my lv. 26 Pignite, newly evolved lv.28 Arcanine, and N's lv. 35 Darmanitan. as three possible fire-type party members. It would be stupid to have three fire types on my team, so I'm sticking with the Darmanitan.

I just have a nasty habbit of sentiment towards my starters...there's no way you will EVER see me without my Empoleon in the first slot, 20 levels higher than everything else. ALWAYS seconded by my Lucario.

No, absolutely not, I used to use it, during generations 1 and 2. but then I realized the starters are only mediocre in the grand scheme of the game, especially in the later generation games. I usually end up putting it back in the PC box.

I used to. Getting the starter plus all the legendary is the easiest way to beat the game. I made a policy for myself, though. Whenever I catch my first Pokemon, I release my starter. The game has gotten way too easy, especially in the newer generations.

I always use my Starter, I always take it to the pokemon league, They are always helpful in a tight pinch, in my recent playthrough of Pokemon Black 2, I have a Serperior which i named Shade, and he actually helped out alot, granted he was the weakest out of my team, only at 62 but hey he got the job done, my Golurk did most of the work and Azumarill which i named Polka, my Mandibuzz demolished Caitlin on its own ha, Lucario and Magnizone where my Wildcards ha, but yea starters do ususally help,

I try to use my starter throughout the entire game, but usually they end up sucking so badly that I ditch them for a better Pokemon. Happened in Silver, Emerald, and Pearl (only not Yellow because it's impossible without a link cable). Of course, that all changed in Black and Black II. Fifth gen has the best starters in all of Pokemon. I loved my Serperior, and I'm loving my Samurott.

I always have my starter in my party. Since it is almost always the fire one (Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Tepig) It works quite well in the end. Usually, my party consists of:

Starter (Usually Fire/Fighting)

Electric

Water/Ice

Water/Flying

Grass

Other (HM Slave, Egg, etc.)

 • 3 weeks later...

Starters can actually be pretty useful, even later on in the game, due to the fact that if they love you enough, they can learn either Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, or Hydro Cannon. I don't know about you, but I prefer using power in battles more than anything else (well, other than exploiting opponents' weaknesses), so these moves can give me quite the edge.

Of course, starter Pokemon are just boss, but I’ve gotten to the point with Pokemon that I’ve played it so much that I don’t use them anymore because every time I replay a game I try to use a Pokemon I’ve never used before, no matter its move set or stats.

I've always used my starter throughout the whole game because I thought it was necessary. To not use your starter seems odd and weird to me. I know that my charizard can be replaced with a

dragonite because i have an arcanine, but for some reason i can't bring myself to put charizard in the box.

That's how I feel about all my starters, but sometimes I would put them in the box so I could practice other endeavers (Like hatching multiple eggs).
