Hmmmm interesting idea... One that i had never even thought of... I'm going to have to say it depends on a few factors. The nature of the prince in question and what the prince believes princess's should "do". Twilight is smart enough that her independance is well preferred however, i could see being with her friends would one day have her grow a desire for someone special. Though a natural leader does not a prince make, Twilight would seriously clash in that department.

She's obviously very intelligent and has changed greatly since she moved to Ponyville. During the incidents with Nightmare Moon, Discord, and Chrysalis, she figured everything out on her own, though her friends helped her accomplish what needed to be done. Twilight has a good head on her shoulders and can handle danger and external stress admirably, her biggest problem is that she's too self-critical. A good leader can be wrong, but needs to present herself as confident in her decisions even during uncertainty in order to maintain morale. If Twilight could stop second-guessing herself all the time and beating herself up over every mistake, she could do the job. Maybe her husband could help in that department, I don't know. Depends on what kind of guy he is.

The title of this thread was truncated on the first page after "go..." I thought you were going to ask if she would make a good mother.

As Twilight is very intelligent, I think she would lack being a princess. She would compare herself too often to Princess Celestia and stress out to the max. She would be more of a nervous wreck than anything. She wouldn't be able to focus! Plus, I couldn't see her being settled down with anyone to be honest. She's way too independent. He would want to leave her in a heartbeat, she'd be controlling of him. She'd be way too over cautious, then drive the kingdom that she is looking over mad.

But that of course, is my own opinion and interpretation of Twilight :P

I wouldn't say so, but I couldn't be certain. She doesn't seem like the leader type. I'm not saying she would be a bad leader, it just seems like she wouldn't be able to keep thing under control. Constantly over-stressing the small things, she wouldn't be satisfied unless everything was going in perfect order. Might just be me though.

Considering how she reacted when she was almost 'tardy' in Lesson Zero, or how she went all OCD (or CDO, that way they're in alphabetical order. AS THEY SHOULD BE!  ) when getting ready for her test in the beginning of season 3... No, I just don't think she's at a point where she can handle it.

Isn't Twilight Sparkle already a certain standard of royalty? Since her brother married a princess, it wouldn't be surprising if Twilight Sparkle could be a duchess, countess or something similar. Though I haven't seen any other titles besides prince/princess or king/queen.

I think she has what it takes to be a good princess, but at the same time I feel she could easily become a control freak and become stressed. I don't know if I'd want her to be one, though. I like her as she is in Ponyville.

Sometimes it seems like Celestia is grooming Twilight to take over some day, although I don't know why that would be necessary. I think Twilight has the potential to be a good ruler if she can learn not to stress out too much.

I was thinking the same thing. Her brother is the Prince of the Crystal Empire so that has to make her something. Frankly I figured she was being groomed for something big because of what Celestia said Luna in S3 E1 about knowing shes ready for the next step. She would NEED her friends for their advice and such but when push comes to shove, she gets it done. I would follow a Princess Twilight Sparkle.

Twilight being my favotire pony, I believe that Twilight Sparkle is prophesized.  I believe that the book Luna conjured at the end of S03E2 The Crystal Empire Pt. 2 was a prophecy that centers around Twilight.  Twilight becoming a princess...not a bad idea.  The producers could definitely use this to end the entire show in years to come.  But all the princesses we have seen have been alicorns.  With Twilight becoming a princess, I think that Twilight will be upgraded, if you must, to an alicorn to match the rest of the princesses in the anime.

Also we did see Twilight step it up during the Winter Wrap Up didn't we? She led the entire town to achieve a common goal, meaning she has leadership potentialtongue.png

I can see, what with Shining Armor being married to Cadence, that Twilight would technically be some form of royalty. I have a few concerns about her ever ascending to rule, in either the Empire or Canterlot, though:

-Firstly, how do we even know she's even being groomed for some sort of ruling position? I know nothing overt has been shown/said to this effect, and I can see why it's a popular theory, but I just don't see it being viable. All things considered, including the events of Boast Busters and Magic Duel, I have an easier time seeing her following in the hoofprints of Star Swirl the Bearded and revolutionizing/expanding the boundaries of magic.

- Secondly, I have yet to see any ruling pony that isn't an alicorn. There have been those thinking that, after being deemed worthy or having progressed far enough in her studies, she would be made into one. I can see why this, too, is a popular theory, but if there was a process to create alicorns, and it isn't a product of genetics at birth, why are there so few of them?

- Thirdly, lines of succession. Assuming my previous two points aren't an issue, alicorns are presumably immortal, so for her to take the reins (as it were) in either court something would have to happen to Celestia, Luna, and Cadence. And that's assuming Cadence (or any of them, really, though Cadence is the only one in a position to do this) doesn't give birth to an heir.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the idea of a Princess Twilight Sparkle, but through my thoughts and observations I just don't see it being in the cards. If you know something I don't, or see that I've missed something, please let me know as I find this to be an interesting topic. Sorry for my little rant smile.png

Fun fact I noticed after watching the episode again. Prince Blueblood is not an Alicorn. I found that interesting. I guess it means that not all royalty have to be Alicorns. I wonder if it works both ways that not all Alicorns have to be royalty.

If you're talking about right now, she would derp it up in a day. I think that's the whole purpose of "being ready". Think about it, her cutie mark is rather vague, representing "Magic". Everyone else's cutie mark is directed at a certain profession. There are exceptions, such as the Mane Six, but even Celestia and Luna's cutie marks are quite specific. I'm getting a bit off topic here. I think that she would make a decent princess in time. It may be a very long time, but in time.

True, and a good observation, though he isn't considered a ruler, either. I don't think any male pony is, it's a very matriarchal society.

Yup, I'm certainly all for the empowerment this series provides. Especially as I shudder to think what kind of ruler Blueblood would be.

As she is now she would make a terrible princess, she clearly has OCD no offense to those who do have it but she seems obsessed about checklists, protocol what have you and we have seen several examples in the series where this obsession has caused her to really go off the deep end. The episode where she can't come up with a friendship lesson to write to Celestia about is the perfect example, she gets so desperate as to try to cause a problem so she can solve it. Organization is good but you also need to be flexible and be ready for the unexpected, there are only so many scenarios a checklist is going to be able to cover. If Twilight is able to overcome this though I think she can make a decent princess.
