This is going to be awesome! I truly cannot wait!

One concern I have though is that they're supposedly making three movies out of it. Now I know that The Hobbit has a lot of stuff in it, but three movies , even with the additional content from the expended lore they want to add, seems like it's pushing it a little.

I feel like they want to make an epic like The Lord of the Rings, although The Hobbit is written more like a fairy tale. It wouldn't be very "true" to the book if they make it that way.

That being said, I'll go watch the movie no matter what and I now that I will absolutely love it whatever happens!

Have you read the lord of the rings books? The lotr movies aren't at all like the books so the hobbit being changed to a movie with more action is nothing new..

I suppose I'm in a bit of a dilemma, though not really. In fact, it's really a non-issue. I'm going to see the midnight release. Now, you would probably assume I'm a huge fan, but you'd be not entirely right. I have only really seen the movies once, and not in many years. I've never even read the books. I only vaguely know the story at all, and even then I bet I'm missing huge parts.

Luckily, my family happens to own the first two and my library has the third, so I will probably watch them in preparation, so some references don't completely go over my head. Though, I bet there'll definitely be a few. I'd prefer not to be completely be in the dark, though.

And, as I seem to have been doing a lot lately, I'm not going to deliberately watch any trailers, as I think they potentially spoil too much. I only saw the trailers for Chronicle after I watched it, and I realized they would have spoiled a whole bunch. Same with The Avengers, because of the Hulk catching Iron Man. I knew that that hadn't happened yet towards the end, so I knew it was still to come, essentially spoiling it for me.

I've watched all the Lord of the Rings movies and very much enjoyed them. I haven't read the book of The Hobbit but I have listened to the BBC Radio dramatization they did several times years ago and thoroughly enjoyed that. As a side note I've also watched the animated movie hand always wanted them to make a proper movie of it. I'm very much looking forward to watching the movie with a friend and think it will be just as epic as the LOTR movies. Unfortunately because I'm in Australia I have to wait until the 26th of December to watch it but at least it's not like other movies where it's a whole month after releasing in America.

I didn't know that it was decided to split the movie up from 2 to 3 as I haven't been keeping up with news about the film but I think it will only improve the quality of the film overall as they can now spend a lot longer detailing certain parts of the story. The thing that made LOTR so good was that it was very long. I admit it will be annoying to have to wait for the next part to come out but it sure will be worth it.

As for HFR I don't know much about it but as I plan on seeing the movie in IMAX 3D I think there should be a noticeable difference if what is said about the increased FPS is to be believed. Eye strain will defiantly be something I will try and remember to take notice of it and ask my friend if it looks any different to him as he seems to be more susceptible to eye strain where as I am more used to it having spent many hours each day on my computer.

I am a huge Tolkien fan! My teen years were basically dedicated to the Lord of the Rings. I'm not going to lie, I watched the Peter Jackson movies before reading the novels, but they are hands down my favorite movie trilogy.

I have read all three Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and the Silmarillion.

Can't wait for the Hobbit to come out ^.^

The LOTR was my mother's favourite book series, so naturally I fell in love with the series myself. My husband and I are psyched to see the movie! (:

My boss has a son who's the manager of a theater. He and the crew got an advance screening of the move, and all his son could say was ..."Phenomenal." I pressed my boss for details and hes rather mum on the whole thing, but he did say it takes a few minutes to get used to the picture (48 frames/3D), but once you do, its like a door opens in front of you and you are seeing things just a hair's breadth away. Everyone who saw it loved it!

Peter Jackson has come up with another masterpiece!

I actually read an article about people feeling ill after seeing it because of the 48 fps. I think that sounds a bit silly though.

Oh I am so looking forward. Just a few days left..

Have you see the Lord of The Rings movies?

Yes

Do you like them?

I see them as the closest thing to cinematic perfection.  So yes.

Have you read The Hobbit?

Absolutely.  It's my favorite of the Tolkien books I've read (which only includes The Fellowship and half of The Two Towers... I know, I'm a pretty crappy fan...).

What are your expectations of The Hobbit?

High.  I'm afraid though that with 3 movies they may be spreading themselves thin.

Are you going to watch The Hobbit?

If not, why?

Absolutely, if only because Ian McKellan and Christopher Lee are superior human beings.  WHY DO I HAVE TO HAVE A FINAL EXAM THE DAY THAT IT COMES OUT???  I WANT TO SEE IT AT MIDNIGHT!!!!!!!

What do you think about the movie being split into 3 parts at 2h 50m instead of the original idea which was 2 movies at 3h 30m?

Again, I'm afraid that they're spreading themselves thin.  I agreed with the initial 2 movies vs. 1, but am skeptical of 3.

How much do you believe the HFR will affect the experience of the movie?

I dislike 3D, so it won't affect me at all.

Have you see the Lord of The Rings movies?

Do you like them?

I have watched the Peter Jackson's trilogy many times. I read the books first and I feel the movies really do the books justice and give the events a sense of scale. Sure, there is the ocassional mess up, but I still really enjoyed them.

Have you read The Hobbit?

Thrice, once for fun, it was a choice in grade 5 english, and again during the end of highschool when I re-read the entire trilogy for a book report comparing the Lord of the Rings to Moby Dick. I pulled an 85% on it. Don't ask how, I still don't know how I pulled it off.

What are your expectations of The Hobbit?

My expectations are set at a bar around the quality of the trilogy. In other words, I am expecting something mindblowingly awesome.

Are you going to watch The Hobbit?

If not, why?

Of course I am! What a silly question! tongue.png

I am a big nerd when it comes to this series. The only book I haven't read is the samerillion, but I do understand quite a bit of lore that comes from the book.

What do you think about the movie being split into 3 parts at 2h 50m instead of the original idea which was 2 movies at 3h 30m?

I'm kind of happy about it. More running time allows for more attention to detail. I wouldn't mind if they split it up into 6 parts, I'd still watch it. The only thing that saddens me is that after I see it, I'll have to wait a whole year to see part 2...

How much do you believe the HFR will affect the experience of the movie?

I honestly didn't know about this until now, but it sounds awesome! Im not a big fan of 3D, but I trust they will use it to enhance the movie experience rather than throwing in the "sword through screen" gimick and the like.

Watch the first three movies in order and all your questions will be answered.

No one is really gonna give a blow by blow retelling of the story. its just too long.

wowowow

mate.

You gotta watch the movies. The lord of the rings movies is about a world called middle-earth. Long long ago there was a war between evil and good. The evil armys' leader was called Sauron. He made a ring that could give one alot of power and the ability to become invisible. A guy cut off his finger in a fight and took the ring. The ring was lost but a hobbit (small race of persons. There's Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Orcs, Men, hobbits and alot more)  named Sméagol found the ring after many years. He became obsessed with it and became evil as time went on. He was then threwn out of the hobbits' town to live on his own. After many more years a wizard named gandalf has collected a bunch of dwarves who are going to a place far away to kill a dragon and collect a treasure that the dragon has taken. Gandalf wants one more person in their company and comes up with the idea to bring his old friend Bilbo Baggins who is a hobbit. They go on the adventure and on the way Bilbo finds this evil smeagol who now refers to himself as "Gollum" because of Schizophrenia caused by the ring. He steals the ring from gollum/smeagol and continues on his journey.

After the journey Bilbo still has the ring. He decides to not tell anyone about it. He never use the ring since the evil controlled by sauron (yes he died but he is still alive.. uhm or how I should explain it.) After alot of years he reveals it by using it and gandalf finds out about it. Because he used it the evil comes for him and he needs to get rid of the ring since it's kinda like a tracing signal. Gandalf is too scared to take the ring himself so he gives it to Frodo Baggins, a relative of bilbo. Frodo travels to an elven city where some important people have a meeting about how they should get rid of the ring. Since the ring can't be destroyed they decide to take it to the only place where it can, which is where it was created; in a vulcano called Mount Doom. Though this mountain is in the middle of the evil's land called Mordor and they can't just go in there since it's full of evil creatures. One of the characters at the meeting called Boromir says something you might have heard of; "One does not simply walk into Mordor"

one-does-not-simply-walk-into-mordor.jpg

Though they decide that they have to try. Frodo along with alot of other people will now make their long journey towards the land mordor, though they meet alot of evil in their way and the evil is attacking cities meanwhile so they have to go there as fast as they can.

the lord of the rings movies takes place from the moment bilbo reveals for gandalf that he used the ring after coming home from the journey.

The Hobbit which is a prequel will show the journey bilbo and the dwarves did and how he found the ring.

No one is really gonna give a blow by blow retelling of the story.

Yeah I thought about making two reviews, one without spoilers and one with spoilers (not too many, just those that are obvious if you've read the book).

No, What really "wowowow" is that I readed all that.  Anyway thanks for the history of the movies/book series.  Probably never watch or read any of the lord of the rings stuff.  A reruns maybe on or TV cuts out good parts, I don't like reading and because I never really care BUT I DON'T HATE IT.  Thanks for the info.  ...I guess.

I got next Thursday and Friday off, I will be at the midnight show. I am the biggest Middle earth Fan pony here.

The plan is to stay up as late as I can on Wednesday night. Sleep late and take a nap on Thursday. The theater I'm going to has their 3D show at 12:15 AM. Get home in the wee hours of the morning, and I have three days to get back on a normal schedule.

Midnight movie people have this down to a science. The GF is NOT going, She has to work Friday. OK, so we will see this again on Saturday. Even if she had Friday off,,,she would never be able to stay up that late. So its me and the guys.

So am I looking forward to the Hobbit?  Hell yes.  Words do not describe how excited I am about that movie.  But to answer your questions:

Yes I have seen the other Lord of the Rings Movies, fell in love with the series after seeing them.  The Hobbit was read to me back in 5th grade, I read it once, and now I'm reading it again. My expectations are that the movie will be so awesome I will go out and watch it in theaters several times, which is something I almost never do. So the next question is moot as I plan on seeing it anyway.  Honestly, I don't care about how many movies they are giving me.  I just want more middle earth, that is all.  HFR?  Eh... I don't know.  I'll have to see the movie first.  Even then I will probably not even notice it.  Also not sure if I will be seeing it in 3D or 2D.

I think that covers everything. ^_^

Well today's 3D in the cinamas aren't really that good. But the 3D verisions are the only ones that will be shown in HFR I believe.

It's just about 3 days left until the hobbit now. I'll just post this here for those who haven't seen it. It doesn't have to do anything with the hobbit but ponies+lotr=win.

I just finished watching the trilogy for the first time since I could actually comprehend what was going on, and I must say I see why everyone always praised them. They were simply fantastic. I am now more happy I'm going to see the midnight release of The Hobbit, and now I'm anticipating it much more. As I'm in America, I'll be seeing it on the 13th night/14th morning, and I simply can't wait. Maybe I should read the books now... (After I'm done with Dirk Gently, of course.)
