gaming Skyrim question

Why do I feel like the Dragonborn has to be a Nord? I've finished a lot of the game as a Nord, but I want to play a new game as a Dark Elf. However, I feel like that goes against the main quest, as I can't picture anything other than a Nord as the Dragonborn, much less an elf.

I have a hard time imagining the Champion of Cyrodiil as anything other than an Argonian, so it's really all up to your individual playstyle.

Being such an important character to a culture doesn't mean one has to be a member of the appropriate race. Talos himself was also known as Tiber Septim, the founder of the Empire and is highly revered among its people, yet he himself was a Nord.

Try it anyway with an open mind, you might be able to have fun with it.

I always pictured the Dragonborn to be an Orc. Those guys are freaken BA.

Anyways, the Dragonborn doesn't have to be anything. Skyrim is awesome because you can do anything you want. If you want to make an Orc-Mage, or a Two-Handed Warrior High Elf, you can. If you want to go exploring, then you can go exploring. You don't have to stick with the main story 24/7. Freedom is the reason why I love Skyrim so much.

Go ahead, make your Elf-Dragonborn and rule Skyrim with an iron fist (Or spell).

well techincakky, the dragon born is a man or woman with the blood of a dragon. so that means that they couldvr been born in the marshes as an orc, and still be dovakin.

You probably only think that because they're the main inhabitants of Skyrim.I think it's better to be something other than a Nord because it gives you that feel that you're REALLY different from everyone else ^_^

I think it's because of the commericals for the game.. I play as a male imperial :P

but the Orc and Argonian males are ugly.. now the females... *cough* uh nevermind

I don't like the Argonian females much. It looks like their necks are too long and they all speak like every single one of them have been chain-smoking for forty years.

Technically it's most probable that the Dovahkiin would be a Nord. But who knows, maybe, for example, a couple of a different race... well, intermingled and added their blood.... I'm bad with genetics who knows. xD

I played as a Nord because it's the "ancient Nord art" but hey, let's defy stereotypes! Wood Elf! Whoot!

Female argonians.... reptiles.... they shouldn't have boobs. Just saying. That really bugs me.

They're also amphibious and, in Skyrim, can have feathers, which implies dinosaurian features. I don't think biological accuracy is too high a concern.

Probably cuz some of the first if not all Dragonborns were Nord. Or cuz of the comercials or cuz the Nord is the main race. And i did the same as you. I started as a nord but went to Dark elf. And you don't have to do the main quest. All you really have to do its kill your first dragon and then you can just derp around. You can be and do whatever you want in that game which is why i love it.

I'm too picky when it comes to biology, I admit.

I've * regrettably* spent 300 hours simply derping around Skyrim. Not productive but I enjoy every moment nonetheless.   FUS ROH yay

I think we have all spent a good amount off time simply derping around in skyrim. Mainly with the Wabbajack. I like when they turn into chickens :P .

I don't think that the dragon born should be a nord. i see why you think this, from adverts and the fact its placed in the home of the nords.

I would love to play as a pony but can't because i have console, so im a big orc using a 2 handed weapon chasing dragons

but hay people will play any race they want and a few will argue witch is best

All my characters have been Imperial, I tried as an Elf for a while but I wasn't feeling it.

Hell, you can get a mod that makes Skeleton a race, you could be the Skeletal Dragonborn if you wanted to.

But I agree, the Dragonborn has been shown off as a Nord through the trailers and such. Most likely the reason.

Admittedly my 'main quest' character is a nord warrior... I'm big into staying in character.

But my most powerful and most played character is actually a Breton alchemist and necromancer. I've done some of the main quest with him but mostly he just goes out and looks for ingredients, and gets annoyed when a dragon shows up to bug him...  funny that looking for ingredients is actually one of the things I enjoy doing most in Skyrim. Its relaxing for the most part, and it helps me stumble onto interesting looking places.

Logically, the origin of the dragonborn, that is, being blessed by Akatosh with dragon blood, allows for any race to be a dragonborn, although the only ones mentioned are Nords. The fact that dragons are native to Skyrim means that it is more likely for a Nord to be dragonborn, or that a dragonborn who doesn't live in Skyrim may never actually discover his/her gift. However Skyrim was once ruled by Elves meaning that an elven dragonborn makes just as much sense. The fact that the dragonborn is a part of nord culture would make you inclined to picture the dragonborn as a nord, but if it had to be a Nord, the game designers wouldn't have let you choose your race.

In short, do whatever you want, because it doesn't really matter.

I played as a Nord and as a Imperial and they are both cool. The other races are probably cool too, but I prefer human-like races such as Nord and Imperial.
