Rainbow Dash is now a good role model

In previous seasons, Rainbow Dash fluctuated between "pretty cool" and "self-centered prat".  This season, she's has greatly improved.

 

In "Wonderbolt Academy", she expresses caution to prevent personal harm to herself and those around her.  She has come to understand that pushing herself any farther would be dangerous, thus knows where to draw the line.  When it came down to the wire, she was willing to give up on her dream.  All because she didn't want it at the expense of others.

 

Gone is the cocky, lazy pony we were introduced to in episode 1.  She has now become dependable, discreet, resolute, and unwavering.  Rainbow Dash is now great role model.  For all those virtues I mentioned and the fact that she now has viable career.  What's more, it's a military career.  That's right.  Rainbow Dash is now G.I. Jane.

I agree that Rainbow dash has greatly matured over the course of the show from the beginning to now. She has had some of the more noticeable character development in the show. With things like becoming more concerned for others, learning to appreciate reading, and even showing her soft side on ocations.

Completely forgot to mention Dash's first shining moment this season :3 In Sleepless in Ponyville she showed her rare caring side, and took the filly in as her mentor and surrogate sister figure. Dash's character development this season so far has been significant, and only in the space of these two back to back episodes. It'll be interesting to see how she acts in future episodes, and if she displays anything further than what she now has.

I agree. She has always had traits that were worthy of admiration, but the difference this season is that she has shown the progress that she has made towards overcoming her flaws. Scootaloo couldn't ask for a better sister

Agreed. While before she was pretty much the opposite, she has actually learned from her past experiences and has become a pony that can be looked up to and taken seriously. Good on the writers for developing her so well and not just making her learn stuff then forget it next episode, unlike other ponies (I'm looking at you Fluttershy).

honestly with the recent episodes my favorite Mane 6 is beginning to shift toward Rainbow, It used to be Rarity but she fails to personify her element so much that it pisses me off. Rainbow has some of the best continuity in my opinion, with her reading Daring Do books occasionally as well as he consistently loyal side

I must I do agree that Rainbow Dash definitely has matured since we first saw her. In fact, she has gone from my least favorite of the Mane Six to now my number one favorite Mane Six character, and that is saying quite a bit :3

Rainbow Dash is definitely the pony who does the best job remembering her lessons, followed by Applejack (where it was explicitly stated that she did). If only Fluttershy could take the hint...

 

I'm interested in where Rainbow Dash's character is developing. If they do this carefully with all of the Mane 6, it might lead to being able to use new types of plotlines and stories, without breaking out of the characters' personalities or making them too perfect. Character development can be a bumpy road; maybe some episodes where Rainbow Dash is learning to deal with responsibility or where Applejack is learning to not try so hard to be the "perfect" pony. And then the Mane 6 can all help each other continue to improve and it'll be awesome and really show off the "Friendship Is Magic" part of the title.

Rainbow Dash has always been, and will always be best pony, in my opinion, but...yeah...I can see how her flaws can rub some people the wrong way.

 

Indeed, Season 3 has been full of character development, especially with Rainbow Dash, and as she develops past her flaws and becomes more mature, many of her best qualities from before are really beginning to shine now!

 

Fluttershy really hasn't had enough air time this season to really develop, and Pinkie Pie on the other hand, she seems to be regressing...

OK, well, whilst I've always admired her for her fast, furious and mischievous character, I agree, and I love her even more for it! Even though she was occasionally mean or rude, there's no denying that's what made her popular, hence the towered fan base she gained during season 1 and 2. However, unless her fans are just as outgoing and fearless as herself, I'm pretty sure their hearts melted in ''Sleepless in Ponyville'', when she showed a really soft, caring side towards Scootaloo at the end. :')

Indeed. Season 3 is best so far, And dash has had an immense amount of character development. Seeing her in Wonderbolts academy Actually showing that her element of harmony is loyalty was pretty friggin epic. There seems to be a lack of Rarity but It's only halfway through the season. It would be an even better season if they would say screw you to people who pull shit like "Derpy is offensive".

Removal of her almost entirely from the show is like throwing salt on the wound after changing her voice in The Last Roundup.

Really? I know that the episode everyone is thinking of is Wonderbolt Academy, but honestly I see that she is going forward. Instead of just worrying about random crap, Pinkie Pie is concerned first and foremost about her friends this season. Both Too Many Pinkie Pies and Wonderbolt Academy demonstrate this.

Rainbow Dash is becoming better and better this season. It can't be just improving all the time. It would be too simple and would leave writers with lot less options to lean show toward. So characters should be improving themselves overall, but it needs to be showed, that it takes time and it's not always easy.

 

Also I would hate to see RD joining Wonderbolts... In season 1 and 2 it was group of the best flyers and acrobats in all of Equestria but now... It's kind of an army .... I despise it <_<

I completely agree. Her character has matured so much since the first episode. She's no longer that cocky pony with the raincloud, although, she has still managed to maintain a bit of cockiness which I quite like.

Her sisterly side really did show in Sleepless in Ponyville and it did show that she did have a caring side.

well in two many pinkiepie we see shoes still lazy but i now like the chracter more shes less mean spirted  and less boastful through how long will these last (who knows) but it makes her character for me more likable and upgrades her to my 5th fav apple jacks my last shes nice but even in her own episode shes still so 2d the rest of the chracters through have never felt like i wanted them to tone down but rd so shes not getting any higher in my fav list

In all honesty, the best analysis I can give of Dashie, is that she has her ups and downs, and will have a lot of room to grow throughout the seasons. She can be a little self-centered at times, carried away (we all can), cocky, over-confident, and so on. Though, as was displayed in Wonderbolt Academy, she is learning when to do the right things for the right reasons. She is the character who will probably come to have the most developement. She is still maturing, and has also made a lot of progress from the start of the show. More or less, I can't wait to see how her future turns out.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this! I use to not really think that much of Rainbow Dash but her character development this season has been outstanding. I want more Scootaloo & Rainbow Dash episodes. Sleepless in Ponyville was so sweet.

I like the new Rainbow Dash ill be quite honest and say I didn't really like Rainbow Dash as a character is the first season she seemed to headstrong to me and thus became my least favorite out of the mane 6, But now after witnessing her glory moment with Scoots and in Wonderbolt Academy she has really impressed me and has began to grow on me.... I might even go so far as to call her my favorite pony!

Now on that last sentence: there isn't a word of it that makes sense.  Are you saying that people in the military have no individuality?  Are you saying that Rainbow Dash has to much personality for the military to handle?  That's just absurd.  Rewatch the season 3 premiere.  Rainbow Dash shows quick thinking, authority, and the ability to take orders in those episodes.  How did you miss that?

 I stand by my opinion. Maybe Wonderbolts have more in common with an army that I've been noticing but still Wonderbolts academy character was over the top...

 

And yes people that are going to army have to get rid of lot of their individuality. I never said that RD can't take an order for the greater good, or that she doesn't have any attributes that fits an army mare, but I think that it isn't her place. I think that she could be in a group where ponies treat each other like good buddies but not in the army...
