Shipping Between the Mane 6 Discussion

Firstly, I just want to apologize to some of you out there. I know a lot of you probably read the topic title and thought "ugh, not this stupid shipping stuff again" or something along those lines. I'm sorry I had to go and remind you about it.

 

But anyway, what I mainly want to discuss regarding shipping between the Mane 6 can be summarized in 4 different questions:

 

1. How do you feel about shipping between the Mane 6?

 

2. In your opinion, which ships between the Mane 6 make the most sense? The least sense?

 

3. If any, what ships do you support between the Mane 6?

 

4. If two of the characters actually did engage in a relationship, how would you feel about it? Do you think that it would do more harm than good, or vice versa?

I don't like it when people think of shipping as solidly romantic/sexual. A "ship" is simply a relationship. Since they're already friends however, I guess I could see this.

 

1. I don't mind when others do it, I just don't partake in it myself.

 

2. I really like the competition between Rainbow Dash and Applejack, they act more like siblings rather than friends, and when character development goes like that, I respect it a lot.

 

3. Beyond the current "best friends" relationships they have with eachother, really none. I don't see anything wrong with shipping characters, everyone has fantasies, it just seems awkward to me as a lot of things naturally do.

 

4. I would honestly like to see some history behind Discord and Celestia, but as far as the mane six goes, I really can't say how I'd feel.

1. I think shipping for this show is kind of dumb. As much as I love all the characters, we have to remember, they're animated ponies. And although I have nothing against gay and lesbian relationships, the Mane 6 are all girls and most of the shipping seems forced.

 

2. I certainly do not approve of shipping Dash and AJ--too much competition between the two, it would never work. Dash and Pinkie Pie makes more sense to me but I only see them as friends (as I do all of them). I could see shipping Twilight with AJ, but--again--I really only see them as friends.

 

3. The one ship I do really approve of is Rarity and Fluttershy. They are very well suited for each other (both enjoying fashion, spa days and the daintier things in life). I could see them as being "more than friends" in a very sweet way.

 

4. I don't ever see that happening on this show. Maybe a background relationship like Big Mac and Cheerilee (which I think is super cute) but I think between the mane 6 it would cause harm to their group. As with most relationships within a group of friends...it changes how people treat each other. AJ and Dash would have an issue with it for sure because it would combine the two most lady-like ponies. AJ having a problem with Rarities dislike of getting dirty and Dash's problem with Fluttershy's shyness.

1: I love reading about it and I'm unashamed to admit it.

 

2: Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie due to their high energy and Pinkie's stalker with a crush-esque behavior towards Rainbow Dash

 

Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, due to the contrasts between them and Dash's protectiveness towards her.

Applejack and Rarity

 

As for least sense I never saw Appledash or Twishy.

 

3: Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, rather obsessively in fact.

 

4: If Rainbowpie became canon I'd be happy about it but most people probably wouldn't be and it might cause trouble for the show. Probably best to leave the shipping for the fanfics.

1.  I quite like to read some of it.   Some of it is well-written and quite interesting.  

 

2.  AppleDash.  They are the most similar of any of the mane six.  Also, RariShy (is that the proper term?).  They seem to be best friends.  

 

Least sense?  TwiDash.  That one just confuses me.  And Pinkie X Rarity 

 

3. Twilight X Rarity is one of my favorites. 

 

4.  It would be...awkward to say the very least.  Kind of unexpected.  I'd prefer it to stay out of the official show.

I don't really know if something like this might work. But, since Mane 6 relies on friendship and well you know the rest.

 

1. Applejack + Rainbow Dash - A newfound friendship that could replace their odd bitter rivalry.

2. Twilight + Rarity - A really good relationship that represents Unicorns with Magic.

3. Fluttershy + Pinkie Pie - Due to their good nature and caring for everypony.

 

Not the best, but it'll have to do.

I don't care much for shipping in general, let alone shipping between the Mane 6

While I actually love how close Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are, or Rarity and Fluttershy, but regardless, I don't think any of them make much sense

 

3. If any, what ships do you support between the Mane 6?

None, but if I had to, I prefer relationships between characters rarely seen with each other(Rainbow Dash+Rarity, Pinkie Pie+Applejack, Twilight+Fluttershy, etc.)

 

4. If two of the characters actually did engage in a relationship, how would you feel about it? Do you think that it would do more harm than good, or vice versa?

Appledash makes most sense, those two are so much alike.

 

Least sense? Not sure. Of all the popular ships probably Pinkiedash, but I don't have strong feelings about that.

If the show tried it, it wouldn't turn out well. Oh, for a few brief moments it would be glorious but then controversy would stir and the show would get censored at best or cancelled at worst.

1: I have absolutely no issue with shipping between the mane 6, so long as it is made well.

2: I think that Pinkie/Dash makes the most sense... annnnd... Fluttershy/Rarity makes the least sense

1. I think it's a fun and interesting fandom activity. As long as one doesn't go overboard it's all in good fun. Most people on this Earth do enjoy romance in it's myriad forms, after all! Shipping is a core activity for many fandoms that extends fandom shelf life, and the MLP fandom is no different.

 

2. I feel like most of the ships can be justified between the Mane Six with a combination of the fluidity of sexuality and the fact that all of them are probably young adults and all have room to grow into healthy relationships with one another.

 

3. I am an ardent Rarishy shipper and will probably brohoof all posts that indicate my brethren in this thread. Beyond that all ships are cool game for me, at least in terms of discussion and appreciating good portrayals of them via fan art or writings or what have you.

 

4. In the show? Probably not happening, I don't think Hasbro ever wants to go there. Not their place to be the progressive ones on TV or whatever.

Oh, I love it.  I think it's harmless, and it can be a surprising source of happiness, beauty, and inspiration.  Sorry to sound sappy, but it's true.  Imagining romance between characters you love is a natural thing, and can be very powerful.

Most sense - AppleDash due to similarities, TwiDash due to opposites attract.

Least sense - Rarity and anypony else, simply because we know she's hetero.  It's canon.

Well, obviously I like AppleDash and TwiDash the best, but really, I'll support any ship, even if it doesn't make sense.  Ship away, I say!

This is the most compelling question.  Subjectively speaking, I'd probably love it if they actually engaged in a romance, because I'm just a super romantic person and love the mushy stuff.  But does that mean I actually, really want them to do this?  Err....no...probably not.  It would probably ruin the dynamic of the show.  Objectively speaking, it would definitely ruin the dynamic of the show, and would be a bad idea.  (Although I'd love to see how they'd handle it)  That's not to say it couldn't potentially work for one of them to have a romance with somepony (even a gay romance), but not within the mane 6.  I just think that it would ruin the balance of their friendships.  I think it's great in fanfics and stuff, though.  But you know, even though it wouldn't end well, if they made AppleDash or TwiDash canon, I would probably start running circles around my house, screaming and flipping out like a 12 year old boy who just got a dirt bike for Christmas.

1. Nope nope nope. I dislike shipping. There are only about three I like. This is mostly due to the bad side of shipping, and Pinecest and incest shipping.

 

2. I really don't think that they do make much sense, because of just how much they've been established as friends.

4. I think I'd probably take a break from existing. I'll just become part of the universe for awhile, and then return, knowing all the secrets of the universe, and just accept that something like it happened.

As close friends but nothing more than that. There's always good chemistry and dynamics with different personalities and similar ones.

 

Applejack and Rainbow Dash creates a fierce rivalry even though they are alike though this has been absent since the end of Season 2. Applejack was always first to point out Rainbow Dash's arrogance and RD keeps pushing that she is the main attraction and Applejack should lay off. They are alike that they are tomboyish but still clash because one is more modest and the other one isn't.

 

Twilight Sparkle functions on logic and Pinkie Pie is more about luck and trust. So they clash in that way but that again is not shown often anymore.

 

Applejack is more about function over grace, Rarity is all about grace and cares for less on function. So they clash on that matter.

 

Rarity and Fluttershy are both graceful and gentle but Rarity is the more outgoing type and Fluttershy is more of an introvert and too shy. They also have the problem of walking over politeness and telling each other how they really feel so that creates a situation.

 

Twilight is nerdy and Rainbow Dash is more sporty so they also clash in that respect. Twilight always thinks before she leaps, Rainbow Dash is jumping in before a second thought.

In truth not to many,  I got my own but mostly if anything I can see a Shy/Rarity or a Rarity/Twilight.

It would be a growing point for all around, and I think it would be ok. It really depends on how the writers would set it up and how the fans take it in all veiws.

I'm not that into it. Partly it just feels improbable, both in the "they've gone this long as friends without getting together" sense and the "how many mares out of six like other mares?" sense. I can buy into it easily enough as part of a story's premise, but less so when it's just thrown in - and also less so the more of them that are shipped together. (Though I have enjoyed a fic or to about hitting every combination - must be my love of checklists.)

I'll take these together, perhaps because "making sense" is one of my main shipping criteria. Some ships (like Rarijack) are basically explosions waiting to happen. The best, most comfortable ones probably grow out of existing best friendships, like Rarishy or my favourite, Twijack.

I don't think it would have done the show good. At the time this thread was written, I'd have said kid's cartoons weren't ready for full-on lesbianism yet.Since then we've seen some change on that front, so my main objections are that it would be far too divisive and possibly undermine the six's friendship - I'd rather see one or two of them with outsiders of either sex.

I don't see why the Mane 6 should be interested in each other on a romantic level. The show is called "Friendship is Magic", not "Love is Magic". People are reading too much into these cartoons when they have to ship everything and everypony
