"Somepony" "everypony" and "anypony"

One of the things I've been pondering for a while, is why they refer to each other with somepony, everypony, and anypony. Since someone, everyone, and anyone are all based off the word one and not the species that it refers to, are they both considered correct to be used when talking about ponies?

I think it's cute they refer to themselves as "everypony" or "somepony" as opposed to "someone" or "everyone". I don't know.. somehow saying "Finding my very special somepony" just sounds cuter than saying "Finding my very special someone" in the MLP universe. That's just my opinion. I thought it gave a small unquieness to the show and also this cute spin on how they say things.

I use Somepony, Nopony, Anypony, and Everypony when talking about ponies, or trying to be more like a Brony.

I use Someone, Nobody, Anybody and Everyone when talking about humans, or talking to humans.

I actually agree that's it cute, I was wondering more whether it was correct to say someone when referring to the ponies, as opposed to which one is preferred.

M-M-M-M-MARKETING!

This show is made for little girls. And as said, it's cute. So, it actually makes the show a bit more appealing for them.

The words 'someone', 'anyone', 'everyone' and 'no-one' originated simply by adding different prefixes to the word 'one'.

In this context, the word 'one' is not actually used in direct reference to the number, but instead from old-fashioned English when the word 'one' meant 'you' or sometimes even 'I'. For example: "One is very satisfied with the exceptionally splendid most recent season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".

Obviously no-one speaks like this anymore. You (one) would simply say: "You/I are/am very happy with the new season."

The logic of using 'anypony', 'nopony' etc. breaks down when trying to substitute the suffix 'pony' into this context. It makes no sense whatsoever to say "Pony is very happy with the new season." The same reason applies when thinking about why our words are definitely not 'anyhuman', 'everyhuman' etc.

Words like 'anypony', 'somepony' etc. are simply puns. Unfortunately this means that the characters in the show should still actually use words like 'anyone' instead of 'anypony', but in my opinion it's still a brilliant idea and the fact that it makes no linguistic sense doesn't spoil it one bit.

I think it's correct, they are ponies afterall. I know there are other species besides the ponies in the MLP universe but it just makes sense to me that ponies would refer to themselves as such. Thinking about this too hard is going to make my head hurt.

Whether it was due to slips by the VAs or script inconsistencies, a few times throughout the show I've heard the ponies say "-one" and "-body" like we do. For that reason I'd say it's acceptable to use those when referring to ponies.

It's just a cute gimmick they do. I like it. I heard a few of the staff actually go through the scripts line by line to make sure they haven't made a mistake and said "anybody" instead of "anypony."  Even I use the words sometimes.

I use whichever form of 'Anybody/Anypony' on forums. But on the show, this irritates me quite a bit.

I don't mind if all ponies were to say 'Anypony, Everypony, etc.'

I don't mind if said ponies were to say 'Anybody, Everybody, etc.'

What bugs me is that they say both. There were numerous situations where I heard one of the Mane 6 say 'Anybody, Everybody, etc.', even though their lines were supposed to be 'pony' instead of 'body'.

Sometimes I hear both 'Pony' and 'Body' being said in the same episode, which is irritating for me, and most likely me only.

It's just a pun, as everybody is about like everypony just change two words.  SOmetimes they say body because they just do, but most of the time it's pony, and it is a pun.

I pondered this for a little bit but I came to the convolution that it's a kids show about multicoloured horses, I think it's fine to say every pony any pony it makes it feel special.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

The Type Of Pony Everypony Should Know

It reinforces the fact that the characters are ponies, which in turn reminds us that despite the fact they are ponies, they are still very much like humans as well.

Oh yes, and it's cute, and that always counts for extra points on a show intended to help sell toys to girls. :)

I think both are just fine personally...especially since sometimes even they forget to say xypony instead of xyone! And it's really easy to notice. I don't like using the pony one too much because I might end up saying somepony instead of someone in English class and that's basically signing my death sentence.

I think the use of these terms is kind of stupid and annoying (whether in the show or especially NOT in the show), and consequently, I never use them in posting or talking about the show or any other time.

First, the substitution of these terms for the equivalent terms ending in -body or -one is unnecessary, since the terms ending in -body or -one are NOT human-centric in any way. I can somewhat understand the replacement of human-centric terms with a pony equivalent in the show, like replacing "on the other hand" with "on the other hoof." Doing this does serve as a reminder that we are supposed to be watching a different world which (as far as we know) has no connection with our world, and that raises the question of why their language is otherwise identical to ours, including the use of idiosyncratic phrases that only English-speakers use. I wonder if it would be better for the show to just be consistent in the use of English as we know it while maybe giving some explanation such as having to translate pony-speak into English.

Second, while I don't ordinarily care about political correctness, the usage of these unnecessarily pony-centric terms is, for lack of a better word, species-ist. These terms have been used in the show to refer to intelligent but non-pony characters, which doesn't make any sense to me when the terms ending in -body or -one are applicable to a much broader and more inclusive group which would include all of these non-pony characters.

Finally, even if you accept that these terms are used in the show (while the rest of the language is the same familiar English), there is no reason to use these terms outside the show in referring to your fellow human beings when we already have perfectly acceptable long-standing words you can use.

Well no it is incorrect because ponies actually speak an entire other language yet it is ironicly similar. The only difference is that someone is not a word in their language, so saying someone to a pony would be like talking french to an american patriot.

Not for me. I'm used to saying "everyone" as apposed to "everypony," so it slides under my radar. Although I did watch one episode online, scrolled down to the comments, and someone pointed it out. I need assistance spotting that stuff.  :D

I think that the big thing here is that there are other sapient beings in the MLP universe. On earth, if we reference for example everyone, we reference to all sapient beings, so that's all humans. However, in the MLP universe, Gryphons, dragons, zebras etc are sapient as well, hence why they say everypony, to specify that they mean all the ponies.

Sorry for the thing that has been in my sig for like a lot of time, I ragequit because I got a warning and then never bothered to get back to the forums and change my sig xd
