Motion Spark 7,807 February 5, 2014 Share February 5, 2014 There is a Tumblr post by Ask Feminist Celestia that, while the language itself was a little harsh but at the core seemed to have a pretty interesting point about why some bronies hate Rarity. It's not that she's feminine, but rather she's feminine in a certain way that threatens particular male egos. When she dresses up/puts on makeup, she doesn't do it for a guy, she does it for herself. Her vanity and dramatics throw up instant "mean girl" flags in some guys heads. It's a femininity that's strong and out there and in your face. Fluttershy is feminine too, but in a more withdrawn, shy way that appeals to a guys instincts to protect. Rarity, on the other hand is a much more forceful personality that combined with femininity makes haters heads explode. splendid analysis, I've had ideas about this in the back of my head, but it was always focused on the fact that Rarity displays confidence. Never seen it in this way. This makes so much sense. Wow there's a very serious issue within this explanation, and it seems like most males fans feel their masculinity threatened by a strong femenine figure in a girl. Never seen it in this way. This makes so much sense. Radiance64 7,053 February 5, 2014 Share February 5, 2014 I've never really noticed any signifigant hate towards Rarity myself honestly, and when I do it's usually just people spouting out petty, nitpicky reasons for disliking her, so I've never let it really bother me at all. Besides, the majority of bronies seem to really like her anyway even if she's not they're top favorite from my experience with the general brony community, so it seems to me haters of Rarity or any mane 6 pony are just a vocal minority, nothing to really worry about if you ask me. 6 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As someone who is of the male sex, this is partly why I've been appreciating Rarity more. Not meaning to say that the way Fluttershy is presented is bad in any way, no. I just like the idea of expressing oneself for oneself. Personally, I don't think enough people get this. While dressing to impress is something I think almost everyone has done or does, and something I am guilty of doing, looking nice is something people can do for oneself only.
