1. Lyra is one of the most beautiful ponies on the show. I love her colors, her manestyle, her cutie mark...Lyra's design is up there with Rarity, Trixie and Rainbow Dash in adorable-ness.

2. Her musical talent. I have a passion for good music, and I've never been able to make it myself. I can imagine her playing at the Gala with Octavia (in fact, she did in Anthropology).

 

3. The stories about her! It doesn't get much more epic than Anthropology and Background Pony, and don't forget the lesser known gems like Choose Your Own Adventure: Lyra's Quest. ^^

 

4. Her fanon personality: bright, laid back, eccentric, skeptical and much deeper than anypony knows.

 

5. Her curiosity about humans. Lyra is like a brony in reverse, a pony who wants to meet us and see our world, and that's one of my favorite things about her.

5: I love watching her grow as a character, mainly because we all have to fight innate character flaws to do what is right at times, and whenever she does this it is very satisfying to me

 

All good reasons, but 5 is the best of all.  You've always been an overt Rainbow Dash fan, but this is the first time I've seen you write out why you love her so much. Your comments are thoughtful and concise. I concur with everything you said, and Dashie is my second favorite pony for all those reasons.

 

 

Gentlemen, here in a cartoon about colorful little ponies we have a character who has a complex built around her parents' death and her inability to express  her grief. That is some dark shit.

 

But what of that "element of honesty" thing? It makes this story have a heartwarming conclusion. Applejack has made an environment for her family of openness and trust and  has become a mare that everypony can trust. And slowly but surely, Applejack is beginning to let herself be a normal pony and not a superheroine. And I'll be along with her for the ride.

 

This is the best post you've written since your critique of Hurricane Fluttershy. You methodically laid out why a simple-looking country pony has such a complex character. The use of a cuss word to emphasize just how complex Applejack is was a nice touch, and totally adorkable. Don't let mom or dad see this...unless you want them to print it out and stick it on the refrigerator.    This isn't good for a 13 year-old, it's good for anybody.

I'm surprised at the number of people here who list a background character as a favorite pony. For obvious reasons, most people posted their thoughts on main or supporting characters. But you did a fine job of adding personality and shape to somebody we only see in brief glimpses. Including a fanmade meme, number 5, is a stretch.  But it'd be hard to come up with five things for Lyra otherwise so I don't blame you.

 

I'm too busy to write out five reasons why I love Fluttershy today, but I hope to get to it soon. Hopefully before this topic falls off the first page of Show Discussion. Those who know me know I hate to post a halfhearted rush job.

• Dash is adorable in an iconic way. She tries to not be adorable, despite the fact she's a blue pony with rainbows on her butt, has a cracking voice and makes all too many cute facial expressions.

Her personality can come off as brash and rude, perfect for a tomboy personality. It not only gives her that flashy appeal, but it also makes her very realistic. If a character has little faults they're border-lining OP.

She has many different 'modes', as I enjoy calling them, though they're really just different parts of what make her personality. She can be her awesome, loud, competitive self, but she's also capable of being kind and caring, as shown in Sleepless in Ponyville's climax, her affection with Tank, etc. There are many others as well.

She is incredibly, incredibly similar to Sonic the Hedgehog, a video game character whose series I've loved since I was eight. They're both blue speedsters who are cocky and arrogant, but who are also incredibly loyal to those they care for.

Her design in general is incredibly vibrant, sleek and platonically attractive, as several other people have already hit upon.

Princess Luna?

 

1) She was a tragic villain character.

From a writer's perspective, Princess Luna is actually one of the most complex and intriguing characters in the show, along with one of the only morally ambiguous characters. She has one evil and one good alter ego, and the best part of that is that the alter ego "consumed" her--this makes her a tragic character; whether or not everything she does as Nightmare Moon is completely her fault is a very intriguing topic of debate. Also, how many incredible fan works have you seen inspired by her tragic backstory? I can name a few:

 

 

 

 

 

2) Her portrayal as a redeemed villain in Luna Eclipsed.

Before Discord made it cool. Just kidding. Still, her portrayal in Luna Eclipsed was absolutely flawless as far as developing what made her into a tragic character then, and why she needs the friendship of the Mane 6 and her sister now. Her extremely vulnerable nature and desire to be loved combined with her quick temper and social awkwardness reveal exactly why she fell into the 'Nightmare Moon' state. But the best thing by far that this episode did was allow Luna to move on--for probably the first time in thousands of years, perhaps the first time in her life, somepony (Twiley) actively tried to befriend her. Also, this episode really showed the pain that Luna had to deal with as a result of trying to move on from the past:

 

 

 

 

 

3) Her portrayal in Sleepless in Ponyville as a ruler just like her sister.

Princess Celestia has been referred to before as the "moral center of the show" in that she is the one who encourages everypony to value friendship, and also is a wise and caring teacher, as well as being one of the only flawless characters in the show, personality wise. Luna not only is an intriguing tragic villain, but ALSO is now a caring mentor and a moral center of the show, just like Celestia by helping Scootaloo conquer her
fears. If a character can be the most moral (Sleepless in Ponyville),
most evil (Friendship is Magic pts 1 and 2), AND morally ambiguous (Luna Eclipsed), then you know that you have one hell of a character.

 

4) Woona is so adorable as a filly it's not even funny.

Moving on from complex character-based reasons, here's something that's simple to explain:

5) She is the Princess of the Night, Moon, and Stars.

This is more of a personal reason. I could probably fill five paragraphs here with why this is important to me and provide several examples, but basically it boils down to this for why I personally love the night more than the day:

 

 

--I am obsessed with how beautiful the stars and moon are.

--In day, I'm always super busy with school, homework, and activities my parents force me into, but at night I can just relax and enjoy the company of my friends on the ponynet.

--This kind of goes with the last one, but I really like to be alone, and nighttime is my only chance to do so

 

 

 

 

Some characters may be intriguingly tragic, thought-provoking because of their redeemed status, wise and caring leaders, FREAKING ADORABLE, and rule over beautiful parts of nature like Luna...but no character will ever get all five like she will.

1- A wonderful source of wisdom and helpful advice, she may seem strange to some but is always nice.

4. shes a earth pony but bounces has many flying gags and machines to aid her and her  funny/silly cartoon logic can almost feel like magic.....earth ponys rule !

 

5. shes the most creative character when i look in fimfiction or devianart theres always art and writing that can be very diffrent from eachother unlike the other characters because in the case of writing her personalitry is hard to pin down and in the case of drawing she can do so many random thing that still look (pinkipie)

[Lightning Fluttershy 1,844]

Fluttershy...

 

1: Her kind, forgiving, altogether soft hearted nature.

Fluttershy, being the element of kindness, obviously will show more kindness then others, but it goes farther than that. What Fluttershy's personality and nature represent are the very foundation of love and tolerance, or the moral of the show in general. Take her most recent episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On" for example. While every other of the mane 6 had abandoned all hope in Discord, Fluttershy's nature wouldn't allow it. Fluttershy's personality wasn't built to judge or to hate. It was built to accept and to love, to show compassion and understanding, and to forgive. For the record, that would make her a very good wife.

 

2: Her relatability.

Now maybe this sounds a bit cliche, but I feel like I can relate to Fluttershy. All my life I've been walked on top of and taken advantage of. Trying to do nice things and never treated with the same respect. Take "Putting Your Hoof Down" for example. It actually represented how much Ponyville is really like our world, our society. The shopkeeper selling the cherries was going to take advantage of Fluttershy, make her overpay for a couple pieces of fruit. Fluttershy was going to take the deal anyway because her will isn't strong enough to deal with something like that. Now, I often find myself relating to that. My often weak will has me giving in to bullies or people who want to take advantage of my sensitive nature.

 

3: Her humanity.

Fluttershy is just as human in personality as any other pony, in my eyes, maybe more. Her fear is my greatest indicator to that. Every human is born with fear and lives with fear. Fluttershy simply takes what every human already posses and magnifies it. On a regular basis she's radiating human emotions such as fear and doubt. Take "Hurricane Fluttershy" for example. Just like in humans, her fear and doubt in herself weighed her down, held her back. She was afraid of what other would think of her and what they would say, yet another thing that all humans experience even if they don't admit it. Fluttershy's humanity is genuinely attractive to me. Her magnified human emotions make her, once again, easy to relate to and makes it hard not to notice her personality.

 

4: Her charm.

Fluttershy is honestly what I think to be the most charming character in the show. When she isn't plagued with fear or doubt, she lives a carefree life and only cares about those around her. Her facial expressions rarely show anger, but rather happiness and her smile makes my heart melt every time. Her personality makes her undeniable to me, the way she accepts everyone she meets and does her best to make them happy before herself is utterly uplifting. With the way Angel Bunny often mistreats her with disrespect and anger, you'd expect for her to be angry and self resentful all the time. No, her natural caring and forgiveness is what makes Angel the perfect pet for her, Any other pony would have blown their top with him around. Not to mention that squee....

 

5: Her beauty.

Fluttershy, in my opinion, is the pinnacle of beauty, inner and outer. On the outside, she radiates grace and majesty. She flies smoothly and softly, admiring the world. For example, in the episode "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", Fluttershy is simply in awe when she reaches the ground. The way she flies so softly with the butterflies and her gentle voice put me in just as much awe as she was in. The way she moves, the way she looks, she way she acts, all make me undeniably attracted to her. Now her inner beauty... oh where do I even start? As I mentioned before, her sheer compassion, love, and caring for everything makes her beautiful. Not only that though, her negative emotions make her delectable as well. Her fear, doubt, etc. all make her who she is. Her kind spirit and infinite forgiveness make her personality shine, and this reflects onto her outer self.

- Her mane. I really like her mane.
