Views on homework?

Best Daft Punk album. Not my favorite electronic duo, mostly because I don't like house. But Discovery just seemed like a watered-down Homework.

Once you get older, you start to realize how important it actually is.  Through the start, up to graduating from high school in May, I found it as pointless and repulsive as the Pontiac Aztec.  Now that I'm in my first year of college, I'm just now starting to see it's importance.  Sure, I still hate doing it, but it really locks in the information that I've learned during class.  When I do the homework I have to do for my courses, I feel like I'm really understanding what I've learned during the lecture.  Sure, it's a huge pain to do, but it's best to do it.

Well. That depends on your memory.

My memory's photographic. So to me, practicing most things is a waste of time, and repetitive. Plus I'm lazy.

Now, if your memory is bad, doing homework is good for you. Because it helps you remember stuff through repeating the same exercise over and over.

I personally find it a waste of time, but I can see its usefulness depending on the class.I know for sure that I would be struggling in math and physics if it wasn't for the extra practice I'm forced to do.On the other hand,I find homework for elective classes to be a massive waste of time, especially if it's an elective I'm only taking for the credit and not because it's something I'm interested.Or if the teacher is really bad.

Homework? Shit's easy.

Studying? Now, that shit don't end.

Homework is solidly my favourite thing I have to do at school, because there is a set goal to reach. Once I reach that goal, I'm done and my grade goes up.

Studying, however, is a motherf*ckin' beasty. That stuff can go on for hours and you'd still have more to do once you're "finished".

I get about 6-7 hours of both each night, starting at ~3:50 when I get back from school (soon to be ~6:50 because TRACK!)

Yeah, the stuff makes you a better-rounded person. Endows you with the ability to time manage more efficiently. Lets you appreciate your free time.

It's a necessary part of the school experience -- if you don't have at least 3 hours a night, you aren't doing it right. Or, you just don't give two shits and still make good grades (like everyone who reads the godforsaken chapter content can do.)

Yeah, just get that shit locked and you're tight for the rest of your life career. Good luck.

I personally never learn anything from homework, because I almost always immediately understand the material. Other than that, it keeps my brain working and burns up some spare time that I always have. Sometimes, if I'm bored enough, I'll actually enjoy my Algebra homework.

I do homework while the teachers are talking about doing the homework or during my other classes while they are talking about that classes homework. Most of the time I end up with free time in school and no homework :) Along with all A's :D I agree with Swick, the stuff just clicks with me right away so homework seems useless to me :P

Really, homework I guess is important (for the studying point of it, so you know the stuff) but it can be very frustrating when you spend a full day at someplace where you don't want to be, just to be sent home with a pile of work to do once you finally get home. Especially if you have chronic headaches or something that limits you like I do once you get home.

So I guess my view is kind of leaning towards the side of wanting less homework, as we spend most of our time at school.

Now for the argument of college or higher grades, you most likely will be studying more and have more homework or something. But hopefully it will be about something you like learning about and doing so hopefully that makes a difference.

In history we have to watch some videos sometimes, which I don't mind (it still pisses me off having to do it) but I kind of like watching the videos as I kind of like History.

I am unschooled (Which means I dont really have a formal education) ...so technically, Life is my homework

I have been unschooled my whole life and yes, I can read and write. I often get asked about how I learn and stuff like that. Its pretty simple...If I am interested in something...I will go learn it. You know, I will look up videos and things like that.

So yea...I guess everything is homework for me...

A necessary annoyance. I really only hate it when I get stuck in one part. Despite my teachers telling us "The homework is only supposed to take X amount of time for this class, if it's taking you a lot longer you can move on", I don't like the taste of not finishing what I started. Especially with some of those math problems that keep fooling you into thinking that you are almost there, you almost have the answer, if you get just this one missing piece, the entire problem will make sense to you...

'Till I moved to my current school, I never really had to study due to my memory and habit for applying concepts in life enough that I memorize them. I still have to fight the urge sometimes to consider "Study" as "Free no homework day!".

May I ask what grade you're in? Right now, I'm a freshman, taking Algebra I, Biology , Spanish 1, etc. None of the homework they give is very hard at all. However, like others have said, studying is what kills me.

Probably the worst homework memory I have is in 4th grade, when I had to learn how to multiply by numbers that were more than 1 digit long. That shit was hard. But as I've gotten older, school has gotten better and homework has gotten easier, for the most part.

As if 8 hours in a stone imprisonment isn't enough. I see the point of homework, but there are other studying techniques that also work just as efficient if not better. Now I will not accept doing homework. If I don't finish it in class, it is done the next morning while waiting for the bell.

I don't really get why we have to do homework. I mean, it defeats the purpose of learning something and working on it hard in school. If it's to keep our brains on the given assignment and set of skills to practice, then just have us study it, don't make us write words relevant to it over and over until your hands ache. I once didn't do homework, and I did just fine on the subject it was about.

Um, I don't know where you live, but here in the US it's illegal to not give a minor a proper education. You must be educated in some way, whether it be homeschool, a public school, etc.

But then again you do get these crazies who love homework....

homework is easy, if not pointless. studying and preparing for massive exams is a whole other beast. and you know what, over time homework becomes replaced with independent study anyway. i'd rather do a stupid worksheet than pull an all-nighter cramming for a test.

I live up her in the good old cold Canada.

And I thought there were some places in the US that allowed unschooling. I have quite a few friends from the US who are unschooled so...

I have to agree with Rolls Royce here. I found homework to be quite boring and monotonous when I was in grade school up until high school. However, once you start College, you will realize that it is indeed very important to learning. Some of my professors don't even assign homework, so you have to force yourself to do it. There are many things that I would rather do instead of homework (like browsing the Forums for example), but it is something that you can't run away from.

Besides, I can think of one pony who would adore extra homework  :P

Homework sucks. It's completely pointless, and a total waste of time. I just read the material in the book, and then ace the test. I'll only do the homework I can finish in class. (After I finish reading the material)

In my opinion, if you can pass the final exam, then you should pass the class. It shouldn't matter how you did on the tests and homework. If you pass the final, then you have shown you know the material, and you should pass the class right then and there.

Gimme the Final during the beginning of the class, the midterm, and the final part of the class. Because I can pass it. I got A's on all of the tests. It's bullcrap how I have shown that I've known the material by passing every single test, and get a D because I didn't do the busy-work. While this other joker has a B, and failed every single test just because he did the homework.

You don't need to even learn the material to pass. If you do the homework, then it doesn't matter if you fail the finals and tests.

What a joke.

I would say that homework is probably most useful in University when you don't have classes everyday to help you keep up with the information. In high school though, I find most homework to be very time wasting. My school day is one of the longest school days in the country. I start at 7:45 and get out at 3:10. However, almost everyday I don't get home until 6:00, because I have activities after school. For the most part though homework in high school is just to keep us busy.
