Criticisms that may not work #1 Luna's dream power

So I figured I would set my pieces up more like this. I may do full episode ones, but by focusing on one particular thing I may be able to convey my points better. I think I will also have one for my standing criticisms. That way I will be in the opposite chair, so to speak.

This first one is about Luna's ability to enter dreams.

complaint
Lunas new found power to enter dreams contradicts her past. Why in the world would she become Nightmare Moon if she could enter peoples dreams and socialize with them. Yeah she must be so lonely with all those ponies whos dreams she can enter right. This makes no sense and comes from nowhere.

It would seem to me that those who complained about this haven't seen the first episode for a while or didn't pay attention to the opening narrative. Im going to quote the reason given for Luna becoming Nightmare Moon. "But as time went on the younger sister became resentful. The ponies relished and played in the day her elder sister brought forth but shunned and slept through her beautiful night" A key word is used here Shunned. She felt that their choice to sleep during the night was shunning it and her by extension. The ability to go in to ponies dreams would not in any way change this. If anything that ability might demonize her. It should also be mentioned that people are often quite dismissive of dreams. Even in the episode after waking up Scootaloo comments that "it was just a dream" So all most ponies would ever see of her and her work was a dream whilst they got to personally see her sister and her work.

Everything in Equestria seems to need a helping hoof save the everfree forest. So why do dreams seem weird? Things are going to blind side you sometimes in world building. Think about it how many times have we seen a pony dreaming in this series? I cant really recall one of the top of my head, let alone one that would require Luna to interfere.

Does she imply that she's always guarded ponies' dreams? You could easily say that she took up the duty after her return, and that it would be part of her healthy realization that her role as guardian of the night is every bit as important as her sister's job, even if it's not as glamorous.

I think she does. She says she is the princess of the night so "it is my duty to enter your dreams". That would seem to indicate that it is an important part of her occupation and probably not something new. Though the idea is interesting, and would make for a good story.

I think it's open to interpretation what she means by that. Remember: she didn't see her position as important in the past. She may have expanded her views of her duties as part of her coming to terms with her part in the diarchy.

Something to think about. I wouldn't call her dream duties a continuity problem unless she explicitly states that she always did it.

Perhaps it is possible I suppose. Maybe we will find out in the future, I always wanted a Celestia/Luna episode. Either way the complaint seems invalid to me.

It's possible she only enters the dreams of troubled minds and doesn't do this on a daily basis. Maybe she didn't resolve any dreams before she was banished at all or maybe she just learned how to do this? On another note did anyone notice Luna has a more wide variety of powers than Celestia?

I was going with the view that Nightmare was a separate entity from Luna and who would (given the name) have some sort of affinity to dreams. So Luna in some sense learned/took the power from Nightmare.
