Why i continue to be a brony

Well fellow Bronies (or pony lovers) Prepare for my first ever Topic/Rant.

 

Before I truly start my Rant i want to first address how Becoming a Brony has Influnced my life for the better. Before i truly became a Brony if nobody knows it i'm Christian well mainly according to my church some of my ideas are somewhat atheist. I used to have ideas before that didn't fit into the so called Christian lifestyle but i never spoke up about them because i was scared what people would have to say about my views but now i state my opinion's without caring what people try to say about them, even my mom who seems to think i'm atheist.

 

 I've began to look into others viewpoints before claiming my ideas are the only right ones and try to truly understand their thoughts. I now look more in depth into things before making final judgment such as MLP  which at first glance may appear to be for little girls but if you watch it enough you began to realize that some of it's themes can easily be related to adults.I've become more eager to actually move forward with my own idea for a cartoon series which i'm willing to admit i may steal a little from MLP(Character Development, using fan's input, Possibly giving background characters episodes)

 

Well now that that's out of the way let me address some of you Bronies. Why is everyone hating on Hasbro!? Everyone seems to think that Hasbro is trying to Destroy MLP While some of the things Hasbro has recently done may seem questionable(Derpy,Youtube,Alicorn Twilight) Hasbro still to me is better then many other Companys out their, Until Hasbro Completely destroy the Main6 (not appearance wise) I will continue to be a Brony

 

What has happened to the so called Love and Tolerate? It seems that more and more Bronies have began to call one so pretty nasty things. The whole point of this Fandom to me is a place for so called outsiders to come together and share their views without resorting to so-called name calling Can one person disagree with an idea without it ending in topics becoming locked! This doesn't mean you have to be  but at least try to understand someone else's views, Don't turn every MLP topic into a so called Religion war.

 

Well i think i said enough, If anybody agrees with anything i have to say, wants to question me, or even disagree with me please feel free to send me a PM or just do it right here on this topic I promise i won't go all  on ya.

I read the entire thing, I say this to give my next comment context.

Screw Hasbro, they are literally going about everything the completely wrong way. Hasbro is baffled that they are actually making money again (they weren't, for a very long time) because of the MLP fanbase, and they do not want to lose it, so they are wringing the neck of the fandom to try and keep control over MLP from spreading. Because without MLP, Hasbro is dead. So screw Hasbro, screw them for taking every episode off of youtube and forcing us to rebuy them for $3 an episode, screw them for shutting down Manesix, and screw them for recoloring Celestia Pink.

So by all means get made when Hasbro makes bad decisions and let your voice be heard when they do something like clamp down on Fighting is Magic or if they ever crack down on pmv's or further content. But bronies should support them and not go on hate rants about the company that makes this great show and allow this fanbase to exist. That's unneccesary.

 

OP i don't know how this thread about Hasbro translates into "why you're a brony" other than i agree we need a little more love, patience, & tolerance and less rushes to judgement or anger.

I notice that as bronies we very rarely fight among ourselves, rather with each other against haters, which I am all for. Hell, you could easily find me in a YouTube comment war against some nutjob putting us down anytime. In my opinion, love and tolerance is sorta just a pile of bull for most bronies.

 

As for the deal with Mane6, I'm pretty pissed. I saw the development videos and was actually pretty excited to download Fighting is Magic once it came out. At this point I think Hasbro is really just bitchin' about things way too much. Sure, they're defending their property and stopping people from using it, but seriously, that game looked freaking awesome! They need to calm down and realize that they are making a crap ton of money as it is and if they put the lid on too tight for the fandom, we're gonna pop and they will lose all their money.

 

Or that's just me trying to sound dramatic.

 

But yes, on top of what Freewave said, I still have to thank Hasbro for all the My Little Pony awesomeness that they give us.

Because this fandom  overreacts to every little detail. When Derpy was removed, everyone raised up a storm and went insane for some reason. I think people just really need to calm down and to stop complaining about everything Hasbro does.

 

Again, it's a show about magical cartoon horses who learn about friendship. It's not the center of the universe.

Yes, but the marketing department and the department that funds the show are completely separate. Nopony is mad at "hasbro" as if it were one entity. It is the marketing department that is screwing with the fandom.

Hasbro needs to take a page from SEGA's playbook on the Sonic fandom and take a laissez faire route to fan works. They make more money in the end because our works act as word-of-mouth advertising for MLP. Seriously, does Hasbro honestly think MLP would be as big as it is if it weren't for the creativity of the fandom?

 

And again, let me reiterate my idea that bronies will play a pivotal role in reforming our long-broken copyright and trademark system.

Exactly! i'm not sayin suck up to Hasbro for everything if you dislike something let them know but without turning it into a rant because this will make Hasbro want to get rid of it all the more. I looked forward to FIM too and i really think that Hasbro should have tried to compromise instead of just getting rid of it. But still I have to thank Hasbro for the other things they've let slide.

I think you kinda answered your own question about why so many hate Hasbro. I personally don't, because quite frankly the only issue that has even bothered me was the removal of derpy, and that's something they couldn't do anything about.

Well which is it? You are contradicting yourself.   But you are also forgetting that Hasbro, while having multiple wings of a corporation also has the production wing where they MAKE this show (artists, voice actors, writers). They own ALL facets of this show!! Again Lauren handed off the rights TO Hasbro when she created this as MLP existed and was owned BY Habsro before FIM.

 

It's not the marketing team that shut down Fighting is Magic, it's the legal team that protects copyrights and trademark and that's very different part of their orgnanization. Again don't bite the hand that feeds but do let them know if you are unhappy with a decision in a mature way.

Sorry, this is just me laughing at my own fake ignorance. Ignore that whole first paragraph. Nothing.

 

Anyways, yeah, Hasbro this, marketing that, discussion, I like. All in all, I really don't think that we should be complaining that much about what they do. It's their stuff, and just because we like their stuff the way it is doesn't mean they can't change their stuff without us liking it. Even though they make money off of us liking it.

Actually, them having legal ownership means they can in fact do whatever they wish with it. Here's my take on some things that irk people:

 

1. I never would have noticed Derpy had been removed if not for this forum. I just would of assumed she didn't have a role to play in the given episodes. Whatever the case may be, the removal of a minor character does not affect the show as a whole (probably why I didn't notice).

 

2. You can't blame Hasbro for their content being removed the YouTube content. If it was Hasbro, how are they at fault for protecting their IP?

 

Another thing, you said in an earlier post that you owe them nothing. Technically, they owe you nothing either. But I think every fanbase seems to hit this period of disapproval.

 

And maybe I'm in the minority opinion when I say I have no reason to have a gripe against Hasbro. They're doing what pretty much any company under the sun does.

I didn't say they couldn't do it, I said they couldn't justify it. Those are two different questions. The biggest issue I have is that Hasbro is on a money train, and the train is going to go on for a long time... But instead of just enjoying the ride, they are trying to control the train, and nothing good is coming from it whatsoever.

I've read your posts and they, frankly, don't make much sense.  I have a marketing degree and I understand and approve of the actions Hasbro is undertaking to protect their IP.  I don't see how this lessens the experience or hurts the community in any way that isn't rectifiable.  FiM may seem like something that Hasbro could have just left alone, but in the reality of the business world it would have been bad to do so, thus the action undertaken.  Hasbro, I'm sure, is working to license out the IP for video games and that's why they want to protect that area of the marketing spread.  Hasbro cancelled an MLP fan-made MMO as well, so it's not like this is news.

*claps* That was a good rant/topic/speech whatever you like to call it.. What you have put out here is pretty much my opinion too.

Watching MLP, has made me look differently on life,  i for example don't judge anything too harshly anymore. I look into things, if i hear about something weird, i look into it, instead of judging it. Im sure i speak for the majority of us, that after watching MLP, the world has opened to me. I used to criticize anything, without even knowing what it was.. Im not proud of that, im sure if i would have heard about the brony fandom earlier, and it saddens me to say, that i would most likely have hated it..At the time that i watched it, i was open too it, i wasn't judging it, i didn't even know about the brony fandom.. It was just me being weird on my own way. But im glad i watched it, it opened my life too ponies and the fandom, it has helped me a lot, it has given me a sense of unity.

Also, i used to be into Nerf a lot, but it got a little expensive, so i took a break from it.. But while i was heavily into it, i learned a lot about Hasbro, how the company works.. Which is why i understand why they're doing all of this, Hasbro isn't really all that bad, it's like you say better then most big companys, we can't forget, that it has copyrights, this is something youtube is doing, if you put up bttf series, they would most likely be removed too, just saying. Besides, it's not their fault, it's automatic system that's taking down episodes with copyright. Your probably not ranting on that, but hasbro doesn't want to destroy the fandom, we are all just huge dollar bills, why would they try to destroy us, we're money in their eyes.. No they try to lure us, then they try to keep us as long as they can.. That's probably how they see it.. We can't always expect the worst, sometimes we just have to wait and see, and face the problems head on. I have faith in Hasbro, im sure they wont blow it, for both their sake and ours.
