I've noticed that she's been talked about more often now, and not exactly that much negatively either. May it's just me (And other people), but still, I like it .

I think Applejack became more popular in Season 3 because

 

1. She had her own episode

2. Within that episode, she had her own song

3. She had a baby form within that episode

I'm glad that Applejack is getting so much love now, she's always been in my top 3 favorite ponies with Rarity and Lyra.  What is there not to love about her?  The hat, the accent, her character in general, and the fact she has an amazing family.

After fifteen months in this fandom, I still don't get this kind of discussion.

 

Seriously, it's not a reality show or something, I don't care about what X pony did in the last Y episodes, I just love them and watch them being adorable.

Applejack has always been one of my favorites, the other being Rarity. I switch back and forth between avatars of those two depending on which one I feel like displaying. Can't say I've really seen her popularity increase really though, but I'm not as active around here as I'd like to be recently.

I wouldn't say she just skyrocketed in popularity since this season. But yes, I have noticed more AJ avatars, and bronies claiming that AJ is best pony. (Nopony is best pony, they're all the best.)

 

I'm however glad that AJ is getting more attention, both on the show and in the fandom itself. I have always thought that she was an underrated character and that she should get more screentime than they gave her in the previous seasons. This season certainly took care of that, by finally devoting an episode to her where she is the center of attention.

Both Applejack and Rarity had ben my two top favorite ponies, and that had been like that since I had seen my first episodes.

 

How Rarity had grown since episodes like Lesson Zero with her whining.

I don't know about others, but applejack seemed really boring, and unimportant as a character until mid season 2-season 3 when she really began to have her character show/shine.

 

That's when I really began to like her.

I've loved Applejack since the pilot, and there are a few reasons I can put my hoof on.

 

She's tomboy-ish, but wasn't obnoxious/aggressive like I felt Rainbow Dash was. She's practical, and doesn't care for all the girly frilly things other mares might.

 

She's maternal, protective, always trying to keep her friends together and resolve conflicts. The paladin of the group, for sure.

 

Her accent is cute as the dickens. She's the only pony with a cozy family-life for us to observe. Everyone else has either distanced themselves from their families, or deals with them only occasionally, like Rarity/Sweetiebelle. Heck, isn't she the only pony that actually lives with other ponies? Unless Pinkie Pie actually lives at Sugarcube Corner with the Cakes.

 

She can kick you over the barn. She runs the Apple family business. Strong female characters ftw.

 

She probably has some of the best-developed flaws. Stubborn, over-protective, a worry-wort... Flaws make a character interesting.

 

I like apples, and autumn, and she embodies both quite well. Sweet Apple Acres reminds me of a farm I spent a weekend on as part of a bonding experience with my college's equivalent of a 'homeroom' when I was a freshman. We had to trek out into the woods the first day, build our own shelter for the night out of tarps, twine and sticks, that kind of thing. The next day we did farm chores, mucking out stalls, crushing apples for cider, feeding chickens, etc. It was a pleasant time, and I've had other lovely trips since then in or around apple orchards for festivals and such, reinforcing the good feelings associated with such spots.

I really do think that Applejack has become popular to me. She is currently my #2 favorite pony of the Mane 6 in my opinion. I love her a lot of reasons but these are my reasons.

 

• Her cute Southern accent
• Good cooking skills with Apples and Treats
• Her very cute mane & cowgirl hat
• The way she is always honest with her friends.

AJ is my second favorite pony! I love her because of her family, who reminds me of my own. She's the big sister I'll never be and the the hard-worker I'm striving to be right now. She's an awesome character and even with less character development she's still just as complex.

Yeah, I agree, AJ is clearly getting a lot more love, which is great! I don't think that the hate against her was ever that big though. I saw one comment about her on youtube after watching "The Last Roundup", and it said: "Nobody would care if Applejack never came back!". That is, however, all of the hate I've ever seen... And I'm not even sure if the dude was serious. When I saw that episode I was pretty new to the fandom, and I got very suprised when I read it (not to mention sad). Even though our dear orange pony, with that awesome south american accent, usually wasn't people's "best pony" I really doubt that she got as little love as claimed. And I really hope that these "AJ-haters" are just ghosts, as someone in this topic has alredy described. I've only seen the hate once, other times I've only heard other people talking about it.

 

In my opinion, I think it's good in a way that someponies exaggerated, even though I usually despise that kind of behaviour. Because it reminds me of propaganda... well, in this case it sort of is propaganda to be honest. On the other hoof, Applejack is now standing in the spotlight a lot more than before, and she deserves that for sure!

Well, also, to be fair, this forum has plenty of, ahem, vocal Applejack supporters (NOT LIKE ME OR SPAZZY OR ANYTHING). There's also been a lot more appearances to talk about this season, which is why there aren't very many threads about, say, Rarity or Pinkie Pie right now. But yes, I have been noticing her rising up in most posters' estimations. Even on Youtube, people are talking about AJ a lot more; I vaguely remember one video of "What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me" having a majority of comments be compliments towards Applejack's singing voice or her section. 

 

I for one welcome our new Apple overlords.

I wouldn't doubt that the love is in some way proportional to the screen time. I never disliked AJ even though she's not my favorite and I don't often hear people say that AJ is their #1. I do, however, have a friend that's an AJ nut. Gotta love the AJ lovers.

As an Applejack fan myself I often wonder who has the most loyal fans, Applejack or Rainbow Dash? It would be very interesting to actually find out.

She has always been popular, though it depended on who you asked.  This season gave her more of a personality I guess, I dunno, I liked her before, and this season really didn't give me anything to take away from that.

There's no denying that Applejack definitely got the season she desperately needed this year.  Got some great character development, a song, and a butt ton of screen time!  As I mentioned in my Season 3 review, I'm fairly certain that, if you remove the season premiere and finale from the equation, she got more screen time than any other character this season.  Heck, she was the only one of the Mane 6 to both appear in and talk in every episode, and yes, that includes Twilight!  Still, this is probably the biggest reason her popularity spiked so much this season:

To be honest, I haven't really seen a whole lot of change in Applejack's popularity. I still say she's probably the least popular or second to least popular of the Mane Six. But, I don't really see that as a bad thing. This show has a huge following, so any of the Mane Six ponies can be classified as popular simply for that reason. The reality is, there's always going to be a least favorite, and there's nothing wrong with that. Applejack has some of the most dedicated and loyal fans I have ever seen, and I find that they're usually really nice people too. Of course, I can say that about almost all Bronies regardless of their favorite character.

 

So as far as being a fan favorite, I can't say that I've seen a great deal of change. However, I have seen a warmer reception to her in general. There's less people complaining about her and saying they dislike her. She's definitely being talked about an awful lot now, and that's thanks to the more generous amount of screen time she got this season. I also have seen a lot of people on YouTube saying nice things about her singing and how she's best pony. And on Equestria Daily I do see more Applejack fans in the comments, and that's always nice too.

 

People are probably warming up to her more and more, but I still think she's one of the lesser popular ponies as far as favorite characters go. I don't care where the Bronies rank her, because I'm used to rooting for the underdogs, and nothing is going to keep her from being my fave.

I think that the difference is that her lack of exposure in the previous seasons forced things in the other direction.  There wasn't a lot of Applejack focus in earlier seasons, and a lot of the episodes where she was nominally in focus, she was overshadowed by another pony.  So the writers made up for it this season.  And then there was that whole "Applejack is best Background pony" meme, which I think lead a lot of supporters to go out on the offensive and ried to raise AJ awareness.
