Would you be okay with the idea of brony music with dark themes?

So I have this idea for song about a foal pegasus who can perform magic, even though she's doesn't have a unicorn horn. Not only that but, her magic is very powerful and she has the power to communicate with other animals as well those that have passed away. Then the people of cloudsdale find out her magical powers and asume she has a curse. So they take her away from her mother and burn her at stake in front of everyone.

 

I don't know but, it seems like many bronies wouldn't aprove of my idea. I have a friend who's also a brony and he would prabably end up calling me a "sadistic psyco fucker" or something similar. I know from previous experiances when I showed him a picture of Rainbow Dash saluting a Soviet flag. But, then again you do have all these grimdark fanfics and tumblrs. Would you aprove of my idea for a song? Do you think it's messed up in any way?

Donn't that people won't like your idea, don't think that if you did this, that people would disapprove, and don't think that when people do, that your song is bad. If you like your idea, then that's all you need to go and do it. If people don't like your stuff, so what. Alot of people don't like my youtube videos, and that doesn't stop me from making more. Why? Because that's what I like to do. I personally think your idea is pretty good, and could be great if well executed. Go do it!

Since songs can be used to tell stories and there are plenty of grimdark stories, I don't see why people would have a problem with this unless they disliked the dark stuff from the very beginning.

 

I say go for it. It sounds like an interesting idea. If you can tell your tale using a song (or maybe even multiple songs for different "chapters") it could be a pretty engaging experience I think.

I'd be perfectly ok with it. Not sure why it wouldn't be acceptable since its a song, not to mention a damn well planned out one.

 

As stated above, there are already grimdark fics and whatnot. A song wouldn't make much difference.

I'd be just fine with a dark themed brony song. I personally don't see why you shouldn't make what you like to make.

Also, we have dark, and grimdark... so why shouldn't you be able to make dark themed songs as well ?

Dark themed music is fine and his been done before and even been successful. Look at Tarby's "Something Broke" 20 min prog rock masterpiece about Pinkamina and Cupcakes. Decibelle's whole album dedicated to the same concept of CrookedTrees ask Pinkamina blog. Look at Psychogoth's whole catalog of Darkwave music and darker themes. Andy Feelin's EBM tracks, Bronyfied's Metal. Flutterrex's mix of grimdark and filthstep. And yes... Rainbow Factory,

 

They key is to make it good music though, it can have a great plot but if it fails in execution not many will ever get a chance to see it. What kind of genre were you lookign to do? Is this one song or an ep/album?

Well, I really want to make it black metal. I play guitar and I'm getting better constantly, the problem is the vocals. I can write the lyrics, play guitar, but the vocals will be a huge challenge for me . And I'm too scared to practice because I heard you can mess up your vocal chords from practicicing at such a young age. (I'm almost 15)

 

My other plan is to make it a doom metal song. That way I'll at least be able to sing it. I'll just have to get thicker guitar strings. Actually, I came up with the idea for the song from listening to doom metal.
