Viscra Maelstrom - Ascension of Satan

after quite some time of being at a infuriating music-block, i finally broke free from it since recently, and made a new song over the past few days. It's called Ascension of Satan, and it uses standard MIDI instruments, so it's not going to sound all that amazing. but i kind of like the cheesy sound it has, anyway. (plus i can always change the instruments from it later on).

i drew heavy inspiration of the soundtrack for the Doom 2 mod Whispers of Satan at first (hence the name, which i hastily added onto it because i didn't have a working title at first), then kind of broke free from it a little bit with the very heavy main parts of the song. as far as composition goes, this is exactly what i needed to do and is the best i've been able to do thus far.

there's quite a few programs. if you'd want to produce strictly MIDI-related material like i've done here, there's a few options to do so. in my case, i just use FL Studio with MIDI channels in it because FL Studio is so convenient for me to use. you can download it for free, though the demo version doesn't give you the ability to save projects (but you can export songs into formats such as MP3). i'd recommend using FL Studio because of convenience, but for MIDI-related stuff there are tracker programs that are completely free and more centered around making just that.

In all honesty it reminds me of Castlevania IV. I haven't played Doom before, although I wasn't in love with the intro at first for my personal taste, but I did respect the lead up into the whole song. Altogether I much enjoyed the song. Bravo Viscra.

actually, i'd say there's quite a few MIDIs that sound pretty good.

 

 

this is run through a higher quality soundfont, but it stems from a MIDI-file, so it counts.

absolutely no idea. he has more videos of the ROTT soundtrack upped on Youtube, maybe he has answered the question in one of those videos. but me, i have no experience whatsoever with such things. i only got GZDoom to run FluidSynth and Timidity+ with certain soundfonts, but that's all the experience i have with it.

Very awesome job on the song and yes it has that nostalgic ring too it which I certainly like a lot. I can picture myself playing DOOM or other games of that era to this song. Again I will say really awesome you should do more of these if you have not already.

TRACK IS NOW FINISHED! i really mean it this time, too! a lot of things i've done to it, mainly i've added a brand new guitar solo part at the end of the song, fixed the drum tracks far more than fucking needed lol, and added some cymbals here and there, and maybe some other things, as well!

 

fun project for sure, but i have to bid this baby goodbye now, before i go crazy over him.

I love this. It's a very interesting piece for sure, and the little things you added in later seem to fit really well and only make the song better.
