Vinyl Scratch (Filly)™ 936 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I... Can't really ever see myself leaving this fandom, I just love you all too much. Well, except for some of the very obnoxious Bronies :/ But those are few and most Bronies I know are such awesome people! I think the only bronies who left where those overly addicted to Twilight and her staying exactly the same, instead of looking at the potential of what can come out of here becoming an alicorn. I for one was excited to see her become an alicorn. Indeed, seeing her as an alicorn has opened many new possibilities to the show and many ways for the transformation itself to affect Twilight. What troubles will she face? What good will come of it? All we can do is sit and wait, watch and enjoy! ^w^ 1 My OC's Viola Soulstrings Solar Ray Miles Check out my FIMFiction account ^^

GreyScholar 1,584 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 Also, Twilight becoming an alicorn was planned before season 3. Lauren Faust wanted Twilight to become Celestia's successor. So it had been planned a long time ago. Actually that needs to be corrected a bit as while in the brony documentary Lauren Faust did say she had intended on Twilight being Celestia's successor in a deviantART post she clarified that had not meant she had intended on Twilight being an alicorn or a princess... which I questioned her on that last part as what is a successor of royalty but one that would take on the title of the royal as well? She never got back to me on my question.

Fhaolan 4,484 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 what is a successor of royalty but one that would take on the title of the royal as well? When a country transition from a Monarchy to a Republic, the successor of the monarch is often not a 'royal' although in many cases they are still 'noble'. Lost Profile 644 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 So far... We've had like 5 end of the fandoms already... Derpy, discord, EqG, twilight alicorn, etc... I just think everyone is over reacting... and I just want to say... CALM THE FU*C DOWN If you don't like something, it's ok... But if you hate on it, screw you.
Fhaolan 4,484 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 Yet wouldn't such apply only if such a transition was taking place? I don't believe I've seen anything that would suggest a change in governmental structure. There isn't anything to suggest it *now*, because the current writers have gone the ascended royal route. We don't know the details on how Lauren was going to approach it, just that Twilight was intended to succeed Celestia eventually. We may have had Celestia 'reduced' to the head-of-state role, like the British monarchy, with Twilight and her friends being an appointed government council much like the original House of Lords, based on them being the bearers of the Elements of Harmony rather than them being of noble/royal blood. And then eventually Celestia simply fades away leaving Twilight as the presiding chair of the council, and defacto head-of-state as well. I doubt it, because this mess is overly complex for a cartoon show and while Lauren did think things out in advance, this is way more detail than she appears to regularly put into future-based stuff. Unless Lauren hands over her copy of the show bible, which I doubt she ever will, we're not going to be able to pull together anything other than extreme speculation. (As a note: I get the distinct impression from the few times Lauren's talked about this that she hadn't factored Luna into her succession plans. So that part's a real mystery. But there have been hints of an existing governmental system in the background already with Mayor Mare and Prince Blueblood, etc.)
Iron Shield 88 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 I am still a fan despite Twilight becoming an alicorn. I liked it, it's different but I think it's a fitting gift or reward for 3 seasons of amazing feats and learning about the ways of friendship and harmony, not alone but with her 5 great companions which she couldn't of done so much without. I highly doubt the adventures of her and her friends are over though, very far from it, so I see no need to worry. Regardless of if I thought it was a good thing or a not so good thing, I've never understood why some fans have reacted they way they have, going as far as abandoning their fandom over Twilight becoming an alicorn. It just seems so... ridiculously petty. I've been petty before in my life but this.... I believe the alicorn argument lacks conviction. While I'm talking about alicorn Twilight. I found that when you look back at the start of season one, she's the only one with a crown, and after Twilight became an alicorn and then looking back at her crown in the very beginning, that then struck me as foreshadowing. Dark Horn 430 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 It's been foreshadowed since the beginning, and practically confirmed during The Crystal Empire. I like the transformation because it clears up all that stuff about Discord - just another test. I know I'm certainly not leaving the fandom because of such a little thing. Luriel Maelstrom 253 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 We don't like the same Twilight, the look bothers me, I don't like the idea myself, but I am not leaving the fandom because of it. People should leave fandom because of fandom getting out of hand, like it does on these forums. And they probably left the fandom but they still watch MLP, the forums might bug other people, like myself, some topics aren't really mature. I didn't like the season finale, Twilight becoming an alicorn, what for? Celestia doesn't like working now, so she eats cupcakes on her big flank. Hasbro probably regret making it, we'll see what kind of ideas they get. And I personaly, CAN wait for season 4 1 ~ I'm in love with my own OC Luriel Maelstrom ~
Dsanders 5,747 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 I had a bunch of mixed feelings when I first heard about Twilight Sparkle and her alicorn transformation. I was...for one, surprised! Because there was a long period of time in which I took a total hiatus from the pony fandom; almost an entire year. So coming back to see how this happening was quite the...you can say and compare it to, a 'culture shock!' So before I even dared to go into the season finale "blindfolded" I decided to catch up on all the episodes that I missed. I caught up fairly quickly and upon seeing the finale, I was still a little ambivalent. I had more positive thoughts this time though. Looking back on all her experiences, especially the ones she shared with her friends, all going back to the very first episode, I'd day Twilight had definitely come a long way. And I like how she was able to put so much gratitude to her friends for being there for her throughout all those times. I overall, think she deserved it!(: Plus I think she looks pretty as a alicorn. I hope this was an appropriate thread to post my opinions on this. If not, I'll copy and paste all this to somewhere else. lol As for how many bronies have left, no one knows! Plus why should you care? Those "bronies" that left were not true bronies, and especially not true Twilight fans(if they ever claimed to be). I love Twilight just the way she is, and I proud of her, regardless of what the haters think.
John 793 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 (edited) Regardless of how many people are in denial, the transformation was, in my opinion, far too abrupt to be considered anything but a poor story choice. The theme of the entire show was originally Twilight moving to Ponyville to learn about friendship. An important part of her personality was emphasized by her somewhat obsessive compulsive and diligent tendencies toward being Celestia's student. Now that she is no longer a student, there is no way for her to maintain these qualities (such qualities that many of us were able to relate to). Sure, she may develop new personality traits, but this would only make her character ambiguous, ever-changing and unsustainable (with regard to her personality) in the minds of the fans. People have a tendency to lose their attachment to these type of characters. They seem very generic. Now that she is an alicorn, it throws off people's expectations on how alicorns are supposed to operate. I don't think twilight's wisdom even comes close to that of Celestia's in the canon story. I always saw Celestia as almost a demi-goddess, having patience and the best answer for almost any problem. Now that Twilight, her former student, is of her rank, it discredits the implications of alicorn-hood to me and makes it seem not as special as it once used to seem. I also think the transformation made her look disproportionate. The wings are massive in comparison to her body. Every time I see her from a distance without my glasses she looks like a big prancing purple chicken. Its irritating to have to look at her massive wings which dwarf the size of Rainbow Dash's and are probably at least 20% more powerful knowing Hasbro... Regardless of what other people say, Twilight advancing from student to princess in only the third season of the show leaves a lot of less room for good adventures. I could have thought up hundreds of good stories before finally converting her, which, in my opinion, should have been done at the end of the final season and in a span of more than one episode. I would not blame a brony/pegasister that leaves the fandom or wright them off as unreasonable. I would especially not blame a brony/pegasister who is disappointed with this choice and expresses their thoughts. Montosaurous 0 August 14, 2013 Share August 14, 2013 This kinda reminds me of the Windows 8 vs Windows 7 debate (or Windows Vista vs Windows XP, or Windows 3.1 vs Windows 95, or Windows 98 SE vs Windows XP, ect.) with some people loving the change and others despising it. You have five basic opinions in both of these. You either: 1.) Hate the changes enough to leave 2.) Love both the aesthetic changes and the changes under the hood 3.) Hate the aesthetic changes but like the changes under the hood 4.) Love the aesthetic changes but hate the changes under the hood 5.) Hate both changes but still love the fandom\OS enough to stay Aesthetic changes for Twilight would be the addition of wings, crown and growth spurt. Under the hood would basically be the transformation into a princess and it's side effects. Personally, I hate both changes to Twilight but still love the fandom and hold hope that the two part season opener will change things back to normal. Hell, maybe even the season finale will change things back to normal. We won't know until it comes.
Planty 1,053 August 14, 2013 Share August 14, 2013 Yeah, I know some have left and I'm not surprised. When season 4 starts either most will come back or more will leave. That is what really determines if we have capped out now or not. I think some people say they left but will still watch it at some point in the future out of curiosity . Even my non brony friends watch out of curiosity! Have ANY questions about Christianity? INBOX ME!
CM Pony 30 August 15, 2013 Share August 15, 2013 I had a lot of reading to get through before I felt I could post my opinion. I saw the episodes late due to being very busy at school and had to avoid any internet talk. I first saw the finale less than two months ago. Personally, I don't like the change. Part of the appeal of the show has been that Twilight is an extremely humble student. I've watched the show viewing her as sort of a commoner type. Twilight has an extreme case of humility, which I assume she will carry into any new role. The more I thought about this, I realized that what bothers me is not her having wings now, but having Twilight placed in the role of a princess. I assume since Twilight is extremely good hearted, like Celestia, that she would be a welcome addition to any royal family. I honestly feel that she does deserve this growth opportunity as well. The only thing that bugs me is that it seemed a bit quick for it to happen. It seems like the sort of thing that should be done as a finale for the entire show. I dunno, it seems very awkward to me. However, even though I don't particularly like the change, I cannot imagine no longer watching the show because of it. The change couldn't upset me if I didn't care about the characters. And caring about the characters like I do would make it rather cold hearted of me to just abandon them without seeing where they are going to go with it. Hell, I remember when I was younger and used to watch "Cheers" with my family. When Shelley Long left the show, I didn't want to watch it ever again. However now when I watch reruns of "Cheers," I hate watching the episodes when Shelley Long was on it. We can never know if what appears to be an awkward change will remain as such unless we continue to watch the show. 1 It's Pony Clobberin' time! ---------------------- 1,645 August 18, 2013 Share August 18, 2013 Here is the thing that bronies need to take into account, Hasbro took almost all creative control of season 3. I don't think that season 3 was bad, but when you pit it up against season 1 or 2, you can tell it just kinda...dropped in quality. Season 3 had maybe...2 or 3 episodes that I really liked. Does this mean I am leaving the fandom? No, of course not, why would I? Just because we had, in my opinion, a mediocre run in season 3, ending with Twilight becoming an alicorn, which in my opinion could have been great!....However, it was rushed, because HA$BRO NEEDZ MONY NOW PLZ! We shouldn't be surprised that Hasbro took an approach like this, they started that company to get money, and Friendship Is Magic was only supposed to be an outlet to get little girls to buy toys, hence them...MAKING MORE MONEY. If Lauren Faust was not put on the team, FIM would have just been as bad as the others, because Hasbro does not care about making something that is actually good like MLP is, all they wanted was a 22 minute long advertisement. Also, here is another thing, there was an overwhelming amount of evidence that Twilight was gonna become an alicorn at some stage. People act like this came out of no where, when really it could be seen from 10 miles away. I wouldn't mind having Twilight as an alicorn IF it was properly exacted, and I still think it can be, have we forgotten about this? In other words, there is more to MMC and Twilight becoming a princess (and no, Equestria Girls is not part 2 and 3, Meghan confirmed this) ALL we know right now is the following, - Twilight Is an Alicorn/Princess ...THAT'S IT! We don't know what changes to the show will come from this, and it could be really good if the writers have more control this time around. I know most of you are pessimistic about season 4, but before you starting saying "Well, I am gonna leave the fandom because of...wings...". Stick around till season 4, because the whole story has not been told, we know that Twilight is an alicorn now, but we don't know anything other then that. In my opinion, if you choose to leave before the rest of the story can be completed, and get a chance to see what comes from Twilight becoming an alicorn, then you were never a true fan to begin with. That is my rant, now I am gonna go get pudding.

Captain Brony (MG11) 218 September 4, 2013 Share September 4, 2013 Though I empathize with most everyone here I feel something is being dodged in the context of these statements. She didnt just get wings she was bumped up a status above all of her friends (and supposedly mastered the power of friendship to a degree that she could attain more power physically and status wise) Unfortunately most will see this as a bad thing since humans will fear the worst possible scenario when facing the unknown. However the fears are not worth worrying about because it is just a show and twilight is still pony we know and love. It's not like her becoming a princess changes the writers and rewrites the laws of the universe. There is room to fear what could go wrong, however if the show is to take the same course with the same writing then it should all be good. Posibility and Potential are my two favorite words. Simcity11100 772 September 4, 2013 Share September 4, 2013 I left most of the fandom because the new bronies seemed less interesting to me then they did in the past and kind of did it before S3 ep4 came out, also because the music just didn't have the taste I liked in some of the older brony songs, of course I'll still make pixel art for other and what not, just got tired of the fandom I guess.
