Possible new Mane 6 Character in Season 4?

When Twilight's talking to the rest of the Mane6 and Celestia shows up to proclaim her a princess, right before everyone curtsies/bows, Twilight turns enough that you can see her cutie-mark. It still has five little white stars (plus the big purple one, of course).

Unfortunately every other scene after that has her in a dress, so you can't see her actual cutie-mark.

 

The banners at the coronation have six, the symbol that floats in the sky before Twilight re-appears has six, but her actual cutie-mark still has five as far as I can tell.

 

So either the five-star one on her flank is an animation error, or the floaty version was an error (which got copy-pasted to the banners).

So I was right about the flags. It's really funny. Shame nobody on the crew would let us know if it's intended or not but we'll have to keep waiting for this answer too.

Meh, I won't freak out unless somebody at Hasbro tells us Twilight's being replaced. Until then, I'll assume that it will be business as usual, plus one pair of wings. There's no use getting all riled up over speculation.

No it does have six stars. The five small stars represent her friends and the center star repersents her. The sky mark showed one extra small star for six and the large one bringing the total to seven. Now the two rumors are that it was a mistake or added by director without the writes knowledge. I'm not sure what it means and if we don't see it again I'd be less sure of a new mane pony.

But it seems you're talking about the flags in the S3 finale. They have 6 stars. I can't see it as an animation error, but they're there for the same reason of the 6 stars in the sky.

Baring in mind that it's unlikely the mane 6 will be replaced entirely with a new set of characters, and that it's possible a side character from previous episodes will be made into a main one, let's focus on the possible candidates, because it was confirmed that Sunset Shimmer will not be that new main character. Now that that is established, who is actually LIKELY to become a new main character?

Trixie does have a great deal of potential as main character, since she seems to be a character who really needs to learn about friendship. 

However, I doubt Hasbro will do that because Trixie was an adversary, the fact they brought her back in S3 is pretty cool, but Discord came back too, and he has much to learn as well.  So in a sense, they are both in the same boat. 

If Trixie ever becomes a main character, Ponyville can't be the main setting, and the other Mane 6 will be gone.  I say this because despite Trixie's 'turn-around' the other ponies won't like her or will have a very hard time after what she did not only to the Mane 6, but Ponyville as a whole.  Plus, Trixie's occupation includes traveling, so when and where is the question regarding settling down in one spot.  She's a traveling magician, and that in and of itself makes friendship a difficult thing.  You make friends in one place and then leave them, and though you can and probably will travel to that town again and see them, time will have passed and you will never be able to get to know them as you would if you lived there and saw them everyday. 

 

Personally, if they replaced Twilight, I think the Mane 6 will all be replaced.  I am thinking something along the line of a new generation of ponies, where Twilight has left Ponyville to fulfill her princess duties and the others have gotten older (and have families and fillies and have long established occupations).  But then that would be G5? I don't know, but I am happy with the ponies we have, and because of the targeted audience, Hasbro won't change the main characters that fast, will they?

This seems to me to be a case of missing the point of this visual piece of information. We know that the other five stars represented the other five ponies/elements. She gained her cutie mark when the main six for a brief time first became connected. This connection sent Twilight into a magic crazy state as the connection was that of that of friendship which is magic. Twilight however wouldn't come to realize this for some time, and instead focused on the study of applying magic. She could very well have stayed that course and remained a talented pony, but would have never understood the true meaning behind her talent or magic itself. Of course in the pilot she came to recognize friendship as an important aspect in her life and in doing so reactivated the elements of harmony. She then pursued the study of both magic and friendship, which she gained an increasing knowledge of throughout the show. In Magical Mystery Cure she finally gained a heightened/full understanding of friendship and finally applied that knowledge by completing starswirl's spell. For the first time time she wrote with a full understanding of the connection between friendship and magic. Notice how the sixth star is shown twice. Once during her epiphany on how to solve the crisis and the second during the latter half of her transformation. The first time is her begging to reach this full understanding realizing for herself that friendship was the solution. The second time was during her transformation the last and ultimate symbol of that understanding.  The Star represents her not some new pony. It represents the unity of the mane six and the elements as the solution and understanding involved all of them. Having the sixth star represent a new pony would seem to go against the theme present in the episode. Though I could see them make it work I think it would be a misstep. 

Also Twilight gone? Is there a secret ending where she dies? She seemed fine to me. All indications are that she will be back for season 4. So yeah she doesn't need replacing. 

As for this pony, I don't know. She might be involved she might not. I'm leaning towards not at this point, but I can defiantly see ways in which they could utilize her.

On a serious and less annoyed note: She does look anti-hero. I would hope they don't play it so black and 'this person is just a jerk'. I like the idea of her being hurt by a feeling of being abandoned by Princess Celestia. Perhaps she comes in the first two season to confront Twilight and is angry over her being chosen, being an alicorn.

 

But maybe the box description is just a quickly rehashed one of Twilight's description, like people have already mentioned. It's highly unlikely the toy line and the cartoon people talk about this(hence some of the odd toy decisions), though that wouldn't stop hasbro from directing them similarly.

So, with Twilight being gone and Rarity being the only Unicorn in the Mane 6 could the sixth star mean a new Unicorn coming in? Or could it be one of the regular animation errors?

I think it's "Mane" it's a play on words since Ponies have Manes. Anyway, I happen to love this pony's design. And I would like to see her more often. But, I don't think it's very wise for them to replace Twilight with somepony else. Twilight has a very large fan following kinda similair to Rainbow Dash. And if she's replaced, that might mean we see less of Twilight, and that wouldn't be a good thing. I would however love to see this pony in the show as a supporting character.

We won't see less of her, but the Mane6 with Sunset Shimmer may be pushed into a background because Twilight is the mainest main pony in the show.

Stop...What am I saying? It's clearly that Twi will remain in Mane6!

Well i don' really think we need a new member, she would always feel shallow compared to the rest since she wouldnt have enough time to get realised as a real character, unless she was given half the episodes of the next season, and then everyone would complain cuzz we are seeing a character we don't yet care about insted of our favorites.

Not only that but then there would be no Mane 6, but rather a Mane 7 and tbh Mane 6 sounds better

Umm I seriously doubt they'll introduce a new main character this late in the series but you never know, hey in Warehouse 13 we got a new main character in the beginning of season 3 so I guess anything is possible but that doesn't mean it's likely. What may happen instead is the introduction of a new secondary character, that could be fun.

Ok so while I'd love to see sunset make it into the show, i can't see her as a mane 6, mostly because all the mane 6 have an element of harmony, and it'd feel tacted on to add another one for her to join.

 

Plus Twilights not leaving, its been said shes staying in ponyville. 

 

I think its just kinda late to randomly throw in another main character, they'll be playing catchup on screentime and development ect. 

 

Maybe she'll come in as a side character possibly though. I'd love to see her in the show, she has a pretty color scheme .

As of now, my best guess is that Sunset Shimmer be the villain of the Equestria Girls movie. She was stated at some point to be an old student of Celestia's, correct? That in addition to her name would clearly set her up as Twilight's predecessor (their names are synonyms for crying out loud). Best guess, she's escaped from somewhere, is jealous that Twily succeeded where she failed, steals the crown thing, and runs off to another dimension for anthropomorphic shenanigans. That would also bypass the whole part about her not being in Season 4.

 

As for adding a different character, I can see them forming some sort of message about needing to make new friends or something, but there isn't any kind of build up to introducing anypony specific, and it would need to be handled extremely carefully to avoid the new character being loathed like no other. 

 

EDIT: The trailer in this article makes my prediction seem pretty likely. Woohoo!

I'd actually like to see another character added to the Mane 6. And Sunset Shimmer seems kind of interesting. However, in Equestria Girl's there is an antagonist who looks just like Sunset Shimmer, so that might clash. Even if Hub/Hasbro says that Equestria Girl's will be a standalone, people will still be a bit confused.

I feel like Sunset's element could be Acceptance or something.

The name, the look and feel.  It just doesn't seem like it would be something Hasbro would put out as a new upfront character.  She seems more like a episode-special-appearance type pony (a guest star perhaps?)(Or more of a trixie?).

 

As for the 6 stars:
