No.  Just... no.   Because, not trying to be crude or anything, but, frankly, Blueblood's an arse.  They didn't mesh at all.  Sure, Rarity may aspire to become Canterlot royalty (  although she really hasn't mentioned that too much since Season 1, come to think of it), but she would only want to do so gracefully, with class and style, not by bending over backwards for that foppish, ungentlemanly little turd.

Rarity wanted a "Prince Charming" - that is, someone romantic, chivalrous, and respectful.  Prince Blueblood was none of those things.  He was arrogant, uppity, and downright discourteous.  He expected to be treated like the lady in the relationship, and Rarity wasn't prepared for pampering HIM when SHE was the one who wanted to be pampered.

 

Not to mention he insulted Applejack and the Apple family, and Rarity would never abide by someone disrespecting her friends.

Rarity would never go out with that snob! She's simply marvelous, a truly beatiful mare who also cares about her friends! She isn't the type to disregard people because of their heritage, she cares about her friends, and her family is family, not simple status icons to exploit. Blueblood on the other hand is a narcistic snobby egoist, enough ego for at least 5 ponies! They don't have the same personality. Rarity is the Element of Generosity. You could make a case for Blueblood being maybe the most selfish character in the show.

 

After The Best Night Ever I'm not sure Rarity wants to be royalty anymore. While she enjoys being the center of attention and having everyone jump at her every word, I think that episode and Sweet and Elite showed her the kind of scum she would have to put up with if she was a high up in Canterlot.

 

She also realized from those two episodes that shallow friendships/relationships are ultimately meaningless and destructive. True friends/love interests aren't people that arbitrarily force you to jump through hoops for them, nor do they like you for any ulterior motive. They value you for who you are and not for what you can give them.

 

So I understand completely why Rarity left him, and I respect her all the more for it.

Rarity can be selfish and a bit vain at times but unlike Prince Blueblood she can also be very generous, giving and loving so they are not compatible by a long shot. Rarity's first priority is her sister and her friends while Prince Blueblood only cares about himself.

They're not that alike. While I'll be the first to admit that Rarity can be vain (and this is coming from a huge Rarity fan) she offsets that vanity with generosity and kindness. She's shown on multiple occasions that she's willing to swallow her own pride for the sake of others, and would never inconvenience other ponies or put them in harm's way to protect herself like Blueblood did.

You think that Blueblood would really hide his own jealousy to protect his friends' feelings? Or go out of his way to satisfy others like Rarity did with the Gala dresses?

Think about it: Rarity's entire life's *passion* is making other ponies look good. The only thing Blueblood cares about is making *himself* look good.

Better question is why did she deal with him that long? He's actually the opposite of her. Rarity can easily leave other ponies hideous to look more beautiful but she doesn't she shares her beauty tips with other ponies. Being generous means to not hesitate to give your best ideas, skills to others and not expect anything in return. It also means to not be cheap and petty. Rarity made dresses for her friends free of charge even when they criticized her work.

 

Sure Rarity uses her charm to get other stallions to do what she wants but that doesn't offset her generosity, she's more so expecting other people to be generous to her... similar to how Rainbow Dash expects her fans to be loyal to her. If anything these two ponies surround themselves in their element.

 

That's what I think anyway. It's just like Pinkie Pie she expects others to laugh otherwise she becomes upset. She wouldn't leave that donkey for a second until he laughed which could of been annoying.

How exactly is Rarity selfish? On many occasions she has offered her guidance, skills, services, hell, even her own tail to others without expecting any compensation or even thanks for that matter. I defy anyone to name one time where Rarity actually puts her own wants and desires before one of her friends (outside of Return to Harmony, of course).

If you take Rarity's flaws and exaggerate them to the extreme, then yeah, they would be utterly perfect for each other.  But Rarity has many redeeming qualities and is a heck of a lot more down to earth than Blueblood there (I typed balls instead of blood and I laughed so hard, so I'm a mentioning that to share the kicks and giggles if you read this).
