movies/tv Action packed or Light hearted?

It used to be that I mostly watched action packed movies and tv shows. But after becoming a fan of MLP: FIM I've found that I am more and more enjoying (and preferring) more light hearted entertainment. How about you? How has My Little Pony effected your entertainment choices?

Not really. Sometimes, it's good to change up and watch something that's light hearted. But when it comes to anime, I go high action all the way. The japanese animes sometimes can be too light hearted, kinda like a "slice of life".

No, not really at all. I still enjoy my zombie/action-packed movies, though MLP is the only exception. Most of the "light-hearted" entertainment is too mushy for my tastes.

That's one reason why I love the Dragon Ball series. It's both light-hearted (well, compared to a lot of other anime series, at least) and action packed.

I tend to prefer lighthearted things. Action-packed movies tend to suffer from shallow characters, rushed plots, and, worst of all, shaky-camera-that-doesn't-stay-put-for-more-than-a-second-at-a-time syndrome.

Just because I am a brony doesnt mean I dont like stallone or action thrillers. Just because I am bi and like men doesnt make me a sissy just because I like to watch an occasional romantic comedey doesnt make me not a man. I still at the end of a day will sit back and watchthe action flick with a few buds.

Since watching the show it has not had an effect on what I like to watch. I have always loved anime before watching mlp: DBZ being my favorite, soul eater, fma and some others. But no I enjoy a bit from every type of genre out there. There is something enjoyable to find in each type of genre.

I used to watch extremely violent and disturbing movies on a regular basis. I went through some sort of phase last year where all I watched were the most disturbing movies I could find in the DVD rental store, aside from movies that were just obscenely grotesque. Despite avoiding the very worst out there, I still saw plenty of things I wish I never saw. Some movies I have seen have had extremely negative impacts on me.

 

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic helped me to get out of this phase. Watching all of this stuff was just another part of the whole spectrum of depression, anger, and suicidal thoughts I was going through last year. Eventually I experienced so much mental torture I finally had enough and threw out all this crap. Nowadays, I greatly tone down the kinds of movies I watch. I try to stay away from R rated movies in general, and anything that just looks depressing. Now, I just stick with MLP, milder movies that generally aren't higher than PG-13, and much milder music than the garbage I used to listen to when I was depressed.

That isn't what I meant. I am asking if people are giving the light hearted stuff more of a chance and/or enjoying it. I still enjoy a movie whose only point is to see if they can break the record for most explosions. I'm not saying watching lighter hearted stuff makes you less of a man. I mean, look at the forum we're on.

I have found since I started watching the show I've been looking for less cynical entertainment. I'm looking for more and more comedy shows on Netflix (Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Dr. Who). I used to watch pretty dark television shows (Battlestar Galactica, Sunny). I still do, but I used to too.

I've always liked both action packed and light hearted media. I grew up watching kung fu movies and playing Mortal Kombat along with the more flowery shows like CardCaptors and Sailor Moon and of course saturday morning cartoons. Fast forward a decade and a half or so and here I am watching slice of life animes and MLP alongside more recent kung fu movies and darker anime/manga like Mirai Nikki (Yuno Gasai ).
