gaming Obscure games that barely anyone's heard of.

What's MOTHER 3 people ask, never heard of Catherine they'll say.

This topic is dedicated to the games that make you feel like the only ones who like'em. But who knows you may find other fans here.

I'd say MOTHER 3 is my favorite obscure game, if you're familiar with the MOTHER/Earthbound series you'll know that while the two other games are happy go lucky fun times, MOTHER 3 is a sucker punch to the gut. It will make you cry. Doesn't mean it lacks the series whimsical nature though.

It also has a very nice soundtrack.

What are some of your favorite obscure games?

Not entirely sure how many people have heard of, let alone played, Eddie Galaxy: Intergalactic Exterminator, a game that combines several different aspects of old games such as Centipede and Space Invaders. Got it in a cereal box years ago and still play it to this day. Also, the final boss is a blatant Alien Queen ripoff/reference .

*recognizes all but 3 games mentioned in the topic so far*

*feels awesome*

I would say persona, but it's slowly getting more and more popular.

Golden Sun isn't particularly well known, but I wouldn't call it obscure.

Probably Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. It's a TRPG for DS, and it's amazing. In this game, you play as Wylfred, a teenager obsessed with avenging his father after the Valkyrie took him while he was still somewhat young, driving his mom into deep depression, ruining the lives of everyone in the family, and indirectly causing the death of his sister.

But how does one take revenge in an immortal demigod? Why, by entering into a pact with the Norse equivalent of Satan and spilling the blood of the innocent to turn the Valkyrie Plume (feather left behind when she takes someone to Valhalla) into a deadly, god-killing weapon.

The whom story is incrediably dark, with most people you meet also trying to get revenge on someone. Characters, both good and bad, die frequently. The tutorial ends with you killing your best friend (you return to your hometown several times, where you have to lie to his family about it, as well).

Depending on the path you take, you can become hellbent on revenge, have no regard for human life, save that which you can sacrifice to the plume, and ultimately get dragged down to hell. Or you can stay on the side of right, find yourself unable to throw away the lives of others so callously, and... well, I haven't finished my good playthrough yet, so I don't know how it ends.

Anyway, it's amazing, and everybody here with a DS should play it.

Also, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. It's basically Fallout with Diablo style combat and dungeon crawling, with a level up and stat system reminiscent of elder scrolls, in a very well written steampunk world. Meaning, it's pretty much amazing. However, it's a really old PC game, and it wasn't on gog last time I checked, so good luck finding it :(

Touhou is my favorite obscure series of games. Though I'm pretty sure most people have seen gifs of this game before. So I'm not quite sure if you can really call it obscure. If you're a fan of bullet-hell games however this will appeal to you very much. Though some people might be put off by the characters resembling loli-ish girls.

I remember that Valkyrie Profile game but I always thought that the thing never had a good pacing. Compared to other TRPG games that is.

I love Touhou :D

And there are much more loli filled games out there, ones more popular than Touhou.

I have a problem knowing if a game is obscure or not, since a lot of people I hang out with, online and IRL, also play obscure games, so something I might think is well known actually isn't.

No one remembers the beauty that's Grim Fandango anymore. It's not totally unknown but it's not as popular as it deserves to be <3

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty

It's an alternate history World War II era game.

It's pretty unique for a shooter, but was ultimately a failure.

I want to play it so bad, but my Windows 7 computer sadly cannot run it. Why can't Lucas Arts take a break from milking Star Wars and just sell the rights to Tim Schafer!?

I'd have to say it'd be Haven And Hearth for me. Just how obscure is this game?

176 players, registered.

The lack of players creates problems, seeing as how the game pretty much requires that you have some buddies.

My favorite obscure is my favorite series in general! Granted, it's become more popular ever since Super Smash Bros. Melee, but I heard about it and then played it shortly before playing SSBM.

That obscure series is Fire Emblem!

It's more obscure for the fact that not many people play it rather than hear about it though.
