Dragonforce = Power Metal, not Thrash Metal

They are two completely different things

Not every single artist or band to come by in the modern days uses any of that stuff.

I didn't exactly mean everyone, but I'd have to say... over 75% of it does, I just wanted to prove a point. I'm sorry if this upset you in any way, because I know that you like some of this music.

Yesh aight here we go

Drake is not a rapper in my opinion

Bring Me The Horizon's death-core days were they're best days

The Black Veil Brides are nowhere near metal

Netsky is one of the best DJs out there

Swedish House Mafia is overrated

DeadMau5 is pure garbage

Asking Alexandria is already heading towards their downfall

I Set My Friends On Fire is decent

Pierce The Veil is better than Sleeping With Sirens

Sum 41 was better than Blink 182

I'd say more likely just most of the pop artists who get more hate then recognition use all of that stuff, with the exception of a few other bands from certain genres. So yeah probably around 50-60% would be better than 75%. Most of the bands who use vocal edits outside of mainstream pop music, only do it when it's necessary, not because they can't sing.

And no I'm not upset at all

My favorite thrash metal band would be Dragonforce

I don't want to sound like a dick, but Dragonforce is not even close to thrash. Thrash metal would be bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Anthrax, Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, Overkill, Sepultura, Testament, etc. Dragonforce is power metal. LOL. Edited by AtDawnTheySquee

Oh, sorry for getting that wrong I've been told that they are thrash, power and speed metal and sometimes I'll get confused as to which Dragonforce is.

Who told you THAT?

So anyways:

I like Children of Bodom's recent stuff.

I prefer the Nine Inch Nails version of Hurt over Johnny Cash's.

Cocaine Blues is my favorite Johnny Cash song.

I'll think of more later.

I don't like Dubstep, but I like some Brostep.

Mindless hard electronic music that's not meant for anything else other then to dance to is incredible.

Melodeath Metal is better then Death Metal.

Yes, Blackgaze is a thing. Get over it. No one is saying it's Black Metal, so stop arguing that it's not a thing just because it doesn't sound like Black Metal. That's why it's called "Blackgaze".

Most Thrash Metal is meh.

Groove Metal is so unbelievably boring. img-1383325-1-LxdwA.png

I prefer most contemporary Black Metal genres (Atmospheric, Depressive, Melodic, Progressive, Folk etc) to most oldschool Norwegian Black Metal

Conrad Lant is an incredibly unpleasant and self righteous individual.

Classical music is incredible, and yes, I love the "mainstream" classical composers. (Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi etc)

Mozart is overrated.

I like Metal.

I like Post Metal/ Post Rock.

I like Darkwave/ Deathrock/ Goth Rock.

I generally prefer most Post Industrial genres to traditional Industrial music.

I prefer Post Punk and Horror Punk to traditional Punk.

I like some Country.

I like Rap, I'm just picky and find it hard to find artists I enjoy listening to. (Thank you Eminem and Mic for providing me with some good rap.)

I'm fine with autotune depending on how it's used.

Futurpop is awesome.

I listen to so much "Brony" music, it isn't even funny.

I can't stand the X Factor.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Come at me, bro.

* IDM is neither that intelligent nor that danceable.

* Shoegaze was one of the best movements to come from the 90's and continues to live on in spirit.

* Industrial works best as a parent genre and embracing its dance beats and multiple waves raher than sitting alone and clunching it's experimental first wave and thinking that's all it was. IMHO it's those second and third waves that made it much more important than its noisy pioneers.

*  when it became about popularity and eq'ing and less about writing a great song about mlp. When people saw it as a pathway with an exit to become a serious musician rather than honoring that it was about amateur musicians having fun being in a scene and listening to each other. ....That said it's still worth being a part of.

- It's funny because it's true. Still pretty good though.

- Huzzah! Someone who gets it. I'm so tired of everyone saying that Grunge was the best thing of the 90's. Shoegaze was incredible, and then those darn Britpop bands came along and ruined everything. ph34r.png  I'm so thankful for the current Shoegaze revival scene.

- It's also important to remember that Industrial was originally more of an artsy thing, and was either used in art galleries for atmosphere, or was an art piece of it's own, a lot of times it was a performance. The later waves and genres it spawned (Industrial Rock, Industrial Metal, Electro Industrial, EBM etc) mostly fall under Post-Industrial, which is fantastic.

- This so hard. It's exactly what I've been thinking. It was so fresh for me when I first started listening to Brony artists in 2011. Not only did it introduce me to new genres, but it was great seeing people making music for fun and because they loved it, sometimes even experimenting and creating completely new sounds. If I had a penny for every time I heard someone saying they wanted to make "pony music" because they "want to get famous", I'd be far better off...

Who told you THAT?

Erm, well I originally assumed Dragonforce was power metal but my friend who knew more about them than me at the time said they were thrash. As for the speed metal one that is what genre Guitar Heroes 5: Warriors of rock put them under.

Who told you THAT?

Eh, it's not really that wild of a claim. They're power metal. From the little DragonForce I've heard, they sound pretty speed metal-ish at times. They're kinda harder than most mainstream power metal at points. They're definitely not thrash though.

It just that the capitalization really bugs me. Why the capital F in DragonForce? Just like DevilDriver. Honestly, I don't even listen to the latter simply because the capitalization drives me batshit crazy. An odd thing to freak out about, but whatever.

Oh, and I also heavily prefer melodeath to tradtional death, though I don't think that's an unpopular opinion at all.

The only reason that's an unpopular opinion is because Post-Metal and Post-Rock aren't exactly popular genres. But yeah I have to agree with you, Post-Metal is my favorite genre of Metal and some of my favorite bands are Isis, Neurosis, Rosetta, Cult of Luna, Pelican, Russian Circles, Agalloch, and I could keep on going with the list.

Yeah I'm with you on this one as well I'd prefer Wolves In The Throne Room over Mayhem any day

This is the fourth time that's been said. -.- Am I the only person who prefers death metal over melo death? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Carcass and Children of Bodom. But I like Florida death metal more than Swedish melodic death metal.

Lil Wayne released some great shit in his time.

Emo is an amazing genre and almost everyone who says they hate it has never really heard it.

Atmospheric black metal is for the foolish and uninformed.

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

Death metal is the my favorite genre of music. It's fascinating, deceptively complex and very difficult to play. Even mediocre DM requires a lot of talent.

A better name for melodic death would be SOFT death. xD  There's already plenty of melody in traditional death if you listen closely enough.

I have no interest in classic rock or any genre with the word "core."

Stacey Q was better than Madonna.

Megadeth have been better than Metallica since 1990, and Endgame beat the crap out of Death Magnetic.

What the hell is with all the wussy male singers these days?

Can bands like Papa Roach actually go outside without getting stomped to death for those haircuts?

Rich 'anti-establishment' poseur bands like Green Day do not impress me.

Korn, Slipknot and Disturbed are not metal.

Finally, a message to all pop/rock/alt/techno/drone/stoner whatevers out there, stop using the word "metal" to describe your music. Putting an ingrown toenail-shrieker in the background of your whiny vocals isn't fooling anyone. Go back to the metro bars.

Isis and and Cult of Luna are bands I'm happy to listen to. Agalloch I absolutely love. I've already made it fairly clear that I'm in lesbians with Alcest, and I also really like Le Discrets, Amesoeurs, Shyy and Onryo, to name but a few.

I haven't listened to a great deal of Wolves in the Throne Room to be honest. I've always been into Black Metal on some level, with bands like Satiricon and Chthonic, but I only started to really get into the genre after listening to Sienbenburgen and Mirzadeh, and later really got into bands like Austere, Woods of Desolation, Balnasar, Fen, Gallowbraid, and a whole bunch of others.

~I don't care what others enjoy to listen to. I'm sick and tired of musical elitism. Even for genres I don't care for, like country. And even for the artists that constantly get called 'overrated', yet are just hated from what I've seen (Justin Bieber). The only place I get annoyed is when people blast country music or whatever in a public place, then you're crossing my boundary.

~Wind Instruments (yes, including brass) > Everything else.

~The violin is overrated (I still love it. Regardless being in an orchestra they will surely be coming for me now. xD)

~Classical music is awesome, not 'relaxing'.

~Classic Rock is not automatically better than anything modern.

~I don't care for Led Zeppelin (Even though I ironically love 'Stairway to Heaven')

~60s and 70s Chicago is one of the best bands ever and deserves more credit than it gets.

~Despite loving the saxophone, I can't stand the way it is used soloistically in many classic rock songs (not all, but most). I love it in Streetlight Manifesto, but obviously they aren't classic rock, and the group specializes in that.

I'm sure I have more, but I've got to go to school now.

Insane Clown Posse is one of the greatest musical groups of all time.

Dubstep is almost universally awful.

Led Zeppelin are little more than a bunch of thieving fools.

The Misfits were actually pretty good with Michael Graves as vocalist.

  • Pop music isn't completely terrible. Radio pop taints the genre.
  • Rap isn't bad. Radio rap taints the genre.
  • Hip hop isn't bad. Radio hip hop taints the genre.
  • KoRn, Disturbed, Linkin Park, and *insert other 90's-early 2000's angsty teen band* are NOT metal.
  • Conversely, Slipknot is metal.
  • Deathcore is a legitimate genre not completely owned by scene teenage girls.
  • My Chemical romance were good for their 1st and 3rd album, not for their 2nd and 4th.
  • Metal is one of the most complex and technical genres besides classical music, and is not just noise.
  • Rock died in the late 80's to early 90's.
  • Justin Timberlake is a legitimate musician.

KoRn, Disturbed, Linkin Park, and *insert other 90's-early 2000's angsty teen band* are NOT metal.

I always thought of those bands as hard rock, personally, especially Linkin Park. I also don't think Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin are metal, but I've heard those classified as metal for some reason.

My Chemical romance were good for their 1st and 3rd album, not for their 2nd and 4th.

I think their 1st and 3rd albums were the best, but I still thought the others were good.

Metal is one of the most complex and technical genres besides classical music, and is not just noise.

Please tell this to my stupid friend who thinks all heavy metal is just noise and isn't music.

Metal sucks, especially the screamo kind. Like seriously. That's so unlistenable

Dubstep sucks, especially ALL of it. You want random sounds? Listen to video game music

Come at me. You Oshawot m8?

Lol screamo isn't even a type of metal. And by the way, there's a lot of metal that doesn't even have screaming or anything like that.

I agree about the dubstep thing though

Well most of the opinions I have on music are kind of popular so here's a few of my not-so-popular ones

I heavily dislike metal music, it just doesn't float my boat.

I can enjoy some dubstep to a degree

I think Sleeping with Sirens and Pierce the Veil are crazily overrated

I also think that While She Sleeps are also overrated

I hate NME magazine. They never have anything positive to say.

The worst My Chemical Romance album is IBYB,YBMYL

Lol screamo isn't even a type of metal. And by the way, there's a lot of metal that doesn't even have screaming or anything like that.

I agree about the dubstep thing though

Actually, screamo is slang for the genre post-hardcore, I dislike it when people say screamo because the word itself just sounds bad

I love it when people automatically call something screamo just because there's screaming in it, when people say stuff like that it makes me laugh. But yeah anyways this isn't an unpopular opinion, genres that contain screaming are a preferred taste and I can completely understand your dislike for it. I as a fan of that kind of music like it because it portrays emotions like anger and hatred very well, and also because I find vocal techniques as well as pure emotion to be more important than the lyrics.
