(I hope this is the right forum section for this!)

I've slowly been collecting up the mane six ponies and I have five out of six! I'm just missing Applejack, but she's on her way.

I've never done this, but I wanted to try out styling their manes. I'll add in Applejack as soon as I get her and get her mane done.

Do you have any tips for how to style them? I am scared to try it with mine. I have Twilight, Rarity, Lyra and Trixie so far.

Wow that's amazing! So show-accurate! I've always personally looked down on brushables cuz their mane is so... stringy.

But you sir/ma'am have really changed my view! I am especially impressed with Pinkie and Rarity's manes. So fluffy and cute!laugh.png

Thank you so much! I got my brushables either offline or at Target, and they're really not too bad to work with either!

Wow, how inventive and adorable those mane 6 look!

They look perfect to me, and the new hairstyles really look well on them if I may say so.

Thank you so much! :D It was actually really fun to do this for them!

Just be very slow with it. I did the styling first by getting the manes wet, styling them and letting them dry, and THEN cutting so I could be a bit more aware of where the strands would fall. You can also look at this guide, which I looked at first. I didn't use the boiling water approach though. I just did hot water and styled from there.

Wow! They look just like the show!

I am amazed, as I am terrible with hair and can barely get mine to stay the way it does tongue.png

Thank you! I'm surprised it worked out as well as they did! I think my favorite is Pinkie Pie though, her mane just came out so fluffy!

I just got my Applejack, so I may try to do a mini tutorial with her. :D I did use this one for reference though, but I did not use the boiling water approach. I just made the manes straight with hot water and styled from there. http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/09/bad-mane-days-guide-to-pony-hair.html

I was wondering how well it would take, but it does surprisingly well! I wasn't too fond of the standard mane style either, so messy and crazy but I saw a picture of a brushable that had been styled and it was pretty awesome so I wanted to try! It's not as hard as you think either! Just used some tape and rolled up toilet paper as "rollers" and it worked. xD

It would look super accurate if you changed the hair colors a bit. There's plenty of doll hair tutorials on YouTube. :P

Otherwise, yes, you are really great at this! Do you shampoo and condition it? I've heard that technique before. wub.png

I think these are quite good, i mean sure theres some parts you can't totally replicate from the show ponies and what not, but considering the limitations you did pretty good!

I think my favorites probaly Rarity, or Pinkie. Or maybe Fluttershy, not sure..

  • 1 year later...

I'm reviving this thread because I just bought my first pony toys, and I've been crusing the forums for hair styling tips.  You did an amazing job on those, OP.  Fluttershy is absolutely flawless!  You even got that wave of mane to rise high above her head before cascading back down, a phenomenon I thought only possible in the cartoon world.  I can't wait to try doing mine.  I found a really nice collection of what I think are the cutest and most show accurate figures.  Unfortunately, they only seemed to make Rarity, Pinkie, and Fluttershy in that collection.  I have no idea why, but the others don't seem to exist.  I hope I can find them at some point.  I really want all six from that same, good collection, so they all match, you know?

So....

I mentioned the other day how I recently got my first brushables, and was looking forward to styling them.  'member that?  Well, I just got done trying to style my Fluttershy.  Hmm....how do I put this?

This was me after trying to do it:

Damn, man.  Like, holy macaroni, it's harder than it looks.  Sooooo frustrating.  Omg.  I think I just made a huge mess of it.  I have a lot of respect for well done styling, like yours, Shadelight.

Uggggghhhhh..........*sigh*....    POOOOONNNNIIIIIIEEEEES!!!  WHY MUST YOU BE SO DIFFICULT!?

These are beautiful!

I've been styling my figures hair for a VERY long time, and I find that if you want the hair to stay in place, use hair gel. ;)

Hello again.  I got some better equipment for styling.  I bought some foam rollers actually meant for curling hair.  I was using makeshift crap before, and that's why I was having such a miserable time.  The proper rollers did the trick.  It was fun this time, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Really, I couldn't ask for any better.  I think she's perfect.

As you can see, not really all that show accurate, but she looks nice, and that's good enough for me.

She was the trickiest.  This was actually the third attempt.  The first time, she was nearly perfect, except for a funny spot in the curl that was sort of twisted.  I knew I should leave well enough alone, but it was bothering me, so naturally I started fiddling with it, and next thing I knew, I had destroyed the whole thing.  Next attempt would have been perfect, but I somehow managed to put a 180 degree twist in the upper mane section, so the bottom curl was going completely the wrong way.  Third time's charm.  It's not perfect.  I'm tempted to fiddle, but I've learned my lesson.  I'm not touching it.

All Three

:D

I haven't been able to find a decent AJ, RD, or Twi yet.  The only ones I can find are the Rainbow Power ones.  I don't want a rainbow maned AJ or Twi, dag nabbit.  I want normal ones so I can style them the way they normally look.  This set is the best I've seen.  I found them at Walgreens of all places, but the other three don't seem to exist.  I looked up this exact set on Hasbro's website, and they only list these three.  What treachery is this??!
