I think the plot will be kind of obvious and predicable. Meghan McCarthy is a fairly decent writer and she is ok at worst.....However I'm kind of concerned about Flash Sentry who is suppose to be that guy Twilight meets in high school. He didn't appear in the second trailer as a human and they showed him in the first like he would heavily impact the movie in some form or shape.

Maybe not as a love interest but maybe as an enemy......A secret antagonist that Sunset Shimmer uses to manipulate Twilight with. I don't know I'm just shooting blanks here.

It doesn't look quite as bad as I feared (at least Spike can talk), but I'm still not interested. It comes down to the fact that despite my appreciation of the regular show, I just don't have any reason to watch this thing. Plus I'm not into humanized ponies. I hope you guys like it though.

I don't like the character designs, and a lot of what I saw in the trailer didn't look good to me, but then again I hate commercials.  I may go ahead and see it anyway, it could surprise me, but MLP:FiM at least has nice visuals.

Well we can't judge it just yet. Those who are already saying it looks terrible needs to get it together and wait till they actually see the movie. You'll be surprised by how many terrible trailers I seen of really good movies. ^-^
I'm really hyped about Equestria Girls!

I honestly still don't see the problem with Equestria Girls.
The trailer may not have been well thought out, but it shouldn't mean we should down the movie all together and just flat out say it doesn't look good. I think it's awesome that some people are actually giving it a chance.
I mean the most recent of complaints about Equestria Girls is the art style and how the trailer brought it out. Look, i'm not downing anybody about this, I mean if you don't like how it looks, I mean that's fine with me. I just don't really see how some people can dislike a movie they've never saw.
If this thread is already made, I don't know, but I just though I should put this out there to share my opinions about the whole EqG hate thingy going on.

Soo here are the problems I have with Equestria Girls

1 Spike is a dog

2 It looks like Celestia did not tell Twilight that she was going to turn into a human

3 Rainbow Dash needs to be in track clothes NOT THIS FRILLY SKIRT or if nothing else DONT MAKE THE SKIRT PINK

I, for one, are going to see it. I have my friend and are going to ask another friend if he wants to go for his birthday, which is tomorrow. So yeah all of us are going but I don't see why people are hating on it.

It won't be the franchise you love if you keep giving them money. It will just be the cheapest, easiest, most predictable version possible. I don't want my kids watching movies that teach them the most important thing in life is to be popular.

Even as a children's show, this has gone completely down hill since Faust left and the more money you give them, the more Hasbro thinks that this crap is what you want.

Actually, it's more along the lines of Season 2 being excellent, and 3 being okayish, something quite common in many shows(ATLA had the same problems).

And if Season 3 is downhill, then I have to wonder how the show got it's fanbase in the first place, because it has stronger "strong" episodes than Season 1, and none of Season 3's bad episodes are anywhere near the worst of Season 1.

Sorry, I don't see the downward curve. Season 1 even had the worst two-parter, so...

Most people complain about the character design. I can admit that it looks horrible, but it's a bit unfair to judge a movie based on visuals

The trailer showed way to many spoilers in my opinion, and based on that, the story sounds incredibly generic. However all we can do at this point is to wait, see and then judge

I'm looking forward to it myself. I think the writers have a lot of potential with a character like Sunset Shimmer. Something like an ex student of Celestia who's trying to get the crown which she feels should rightfully be hers, along those lines. I hope they make her more than just a Mean Girls demon. Plus, Twilight being confused in a human world would be amusing on its own for 90 minutes.

I just got back from the Equestria Girls world premiere at the LA Film Fest, and just want to let you guys know a few things. Don't worry I won't let out any spoilers except this one right here.

Spike can talk as a dog.

Don't worry this is revealed the first moment Twi gets to the human world.

Now then, I have to say this movie is hugely underestimated. It's actually very good, people that went in just to see it and thought it would be horrible came out giving it 7/10 or 8/10. The movie has a lot of cliches in it, but they aren't typical high school movie cliches, they're really random cliches that are pulled off well and quite hilariously. So anybody that outright hates it without having seen it, give it a chance, you might change your mind. The movie is actually really good.

I'm probably going to watch it just because it still has the doubt part of it that it might be good. It could be interesting at least, and it might be fun to watch. I'm going to give it a chance.

I should also mention that, and this could be a spoiler to some people, since they live in the human world they have technology, and it seems to point out the generation's obsession with technology over real life contact.

...We can try to be optimistic, though. But the sad truth is, if we are all serious about FiM...

FiM exists for the same reason... even if we see it in a different way.

Actually, from what I've heard, it's a movie, not a tv series spin-off. That said, they'd probably rake in more than enough cash from bronies who decide to buy tickets to see it. See as how the newly anthro cast would look nothing like the toys at that point, saying that it's a plot to sell more toys just...doesn't stick well.

Unless of course they make toys based off of the movie. Wouldn't surprise me, and while I don't feel quite alright with the sudden change in pace for the movie itself, I don't think its wrong to experiment a little as long as they don't blatantly cross the line (the line being fairly subjective of course) or the movie doesn't bomb. Or both. I mean, that's kinda the whole point of this trail and error thing: they're trying to get a feel for what fans like or dislike about it.

That description could be used for the entire freaking Hub network! BTW, My Little Pony has been a shameless TV ploy since 1983, and if you remember, some people decried FiM as a sellout way before its premiere back in 2010. EqG is really no different from anything else they have done before.

Equestria Girls in my opinion is a shameless ploy by Hasbro to make more money by selling toys and using a new television show to do so.

Of course it is.  The only question is, is it, like FiM, a good story/movie in its own right, or just a lousy infomercial for Pony!Bratz dolls?

Opinion so far? I just saw it. And it was awesome.

It is pretty much just an elongated MLP episode where the plot takes place in an alternate universe. It was really funny and really entertaining.

For what it's worth, I saw Man of Steel on Friday, and I liked Equestria Girls better.

I was the last person in my city to get a ticket to see this movie.

Considering how many people are butthurt beverly about the movie, I'm glad that the movie has proved you ALL wrong.

I went in with low expectations, considering all the negative feelings surrounding it.
First of all, the movie was funny as hell, don't let that fool you.  It was extremely funny, and charming to see just what they did with all the background characters of the normal show.  Almost every single pony was in the movie.  Including Granny Smith.  Kudos to that.

First thing tI noticed was that, yes, Twilight was rather clumsy on her feet throughout the movie.  That's to be expected.  All you people who are crying because it's a typical storyline...well it isn't, really.  Yes, it's predictable that it goes to Point A to point B in a rather typical fashion, but hell, the journey was a wild one.  Just like the original show, there are mini plot-twists, and side stories that just make it such a colorful ride.

There were parts of that movie I never would have imagined.  Just like we saw in Season 2, they did a GREAT JOB at portraying the evil villain.  Kudos to that.

1.  The animation sucks!!
Well, no it really doesn't.  It's the same people who made the original show, stop nit-picking.  It's just a different style.

2.  The characters are boring!
Not really, I think that the way they portrayed each character in a humanized roll was simply brilliant.  They managed to keep things canon while maintaining good humor and realism.

3.  TRANSFORMERS REFERENCES!!!
  Always a good thing.

All in all, the most annoying part of the movie, was that the people in the theatre wouldn't stop geeking out over every little thing.  I found myself shushing both of my neighbors at one point, because they were talking out loud about how they thought the movie was so good.

If you haven't seen it, quit smashing the movie because you hated the goddamn trailers.  I'm so sick of your hypocrisy, brony fandom.  The amount of content the trailers ACTUALLY show is like, such a small fractal of what the movie is actually about.
Get off your ass and go see it.  I'm glad I did.

It seems to me that it doesn't matter if a TV Show or Movie is made as part of a plot to sells toys, because nobody is going to be interested in buying the toys if the TV Show or Movie is not entertaining.

You would be shocked how many 90's studio execs saw the success of TMNT's toy sales and assumed that a cartoon, any cartoon, could magically summon the same gravy train without regard to quality. It's a perennial failing of the industry that - maybe - has been fended off in this case by a dedicated staff in charge of production.
