To me, dubstep is just a random mish-mash of noises with basslines. Rock actually has structure to it. Not to mention, electric guitars.

Rock over dubstep any day.

Indeed.

Wich one do you guys like more? Personally, I love rock way more because I grew up with it and I think it sounds better. I've been arguing with a friend on this subject for a while, maybe you could help end the debate.

Oh for fucks sake! You can't compare the two, there just TOO different. That's like comparing soup to pancakes, they may both be food but they're NOTHING alike. I'm not voting for either. I do enjoy rock at times, but I prefer metal or alternative. I may not be into dubstep, but I haven't explored electronic music enough. So far the only stuff I like is dark ambient.

Me? I like dubstep.

Now I like the more violent ones, or so called the Americanized dubstep. Now people have a tendency to call this Brostep, but I refuse to call it that.

Skrillex is an exception. I actually believe he makes electronic beat music rather then the so called 'brostep'. But other then that im loving it.

I had an argument a short while back about what takes more skill: A guitar or dubstep? The outcome was neither, even if some things you had to learn were in the same category, there were so much different things to learn that its not even comparable.

Don't get me wrong, cuz I like rock too. But after hearing the bass output from dubstep it's what got me into that genre (still thank Viscra for that).

From what I see I can already tell more people like rock better. They enjoy the sound of the guitar and practically everything else in the song. Usually from a man who likes dubstep, they're interested in the drop of the song, where basslines gets out of whack and different unsync notes start to play.

..

..

..

Nero is a different story, but we'll exclude him for now.

Good ol' rawk music. I can get down to some guitar solos and singing about love, sex, and rock n' roll. Not some autotuned girl's voice over random computerized BWAAAAHS and beeps.

Because nothing electronic should appeal to anyone img-1462762-1-wink.png

@,

I have one thing to say to you.

You suck.

Making me choose between two genres I'm quite fond of is cruel to say the least.  I'll go with Rock for the nostalgia factor, but it doesn't mean I like it more.

Meanie....

EDIT: SORRY UNIQUE!

I was on page two for some reason.  I mistook you for OP.

Sorry!

Rock and Roll is far superior to Dubstep. I really do not understand it at all. It's more mindless bass designed to sell records and shake that new car mommy and daddy just bought you in the high school parking lot. It takes little to no skill to sit down at a computer to make it. Rock on the other hand takes real skill to create, to actually pick up and instrument and understand the art of song craft seems to be a dying art these days. There are so many genres of Rock it's impossible to get board of it. From its purist form of plugged in blues and jazz to the heaviest of sludge and death. It can be beautiful or as mean and ugly as you want and can match any mood. I can spend my entire life finding new bands and material and still lie on my death bed and wish I could go to the record store one more time and throw some horns with my freinds. Rock and Roll has reigned supreme long before any of us were born and will be around in some form long after we're gone. 20 years from now people will look back and laugh at Dubstep the same we look back and laugh at 90s boy bands. \\m//

Definetly rock.  My two favorite bands, The Decemberists and Yes, are indie and progressive rock.  I also like The Who.  I don't really like any dubstep except for maybe the occasional remix.  Most of it sounds very unpleasant.

I love you.

There was already a discussion here about between guitars and electronic boards. You can go look and debate yourself, but honestly after seeing this many things in this, your paragraph can be questioned and argued to the point of extinction.

What kind of comparison is this? If you're going ask us what our preferences are in a thing like this, at least have the decency to ask us if we prefer electronic music or rock. It's unfair to compare a genre with only 2 Sub genres and one with more than I can count

But to answer the question: Dubstep ALL THE WAY!

That's pretty much mostly true, although my friend told me about this one song that I actually kinda like, it sounds sorta cool

While that was pretty good song, that still falls under the category of "Brostep". Here's some real Dubstep

Make sure to listen to this song with a very high volume on

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFzdhVyZYww

Comparisons to Skrillex are unwarranted here. One is dubstep, the other is brostep. Two very different things.

How about this?

Oh man, thanks for reviving my interest to Africa Hitech. Love that song!

The only kind of Dubstep that I'm a huge fan of is Post-Dubstep, while I hate a lot of rock bands that you hear on the radio, there are quite a few good rock bands out there that I think are more preferable over the Post-Dubstep that I listen to.

Then have some Post Dubstep with Funky influences wink.png

Me? I don't mind either genre much. I understand that both require skill and creativity to make but I prefer the 'harder' genre of rock, Metal. I don't actually listen to dubstep (well I probably have but that was probably when I hated ALL and I mean all genres of music). I used to listen to rock but as I said I prefer Metal to rock purely because the drums are faster, the guitar riffs more skilful and, for one very specific genre, the vocals are hard to master.

Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that Metal is superior, I understand how much skill and creativity go into the other genres, but I just like the sound of Metal vibrating through my house. I like listening to the speed of the drummer, the complexity of the guitar riffs. Now I'm not saying every Metal band is like this, most only have one or two good aspects nothing is ever perfect.

But why don't you judge for yourselves, here are some links:

 - Megadeth, Heavy metal and thrash metal band.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OZs7IoWTvc - Avenged Sevenfold, Heavy metal band.

 - Bullet For My Valentine, Metalcore band.

 - Dragonforce, Power metal band.

 - Linkin Park, Nu Metal band.

 - Dethklok, Death metal band.

Sorry, you'll just have to copy and paste the last couple of links.

There is no "supreme" genre of music. And I may not be fan of dubstep, but I'm pretty sure it'll evolve into something else in the future.

I prefer the 'harder' genre of rock, Metal.

>Says he likes metal

>Uses Deathklok as an example for death metal

>Probably can't name any other death metal bands besides Dethklok, Cannibal Corpse or In Flames.

Well now I feel like an elitist dickhead.

Yeah so? I was listening to them at the time.

Children Of Bodom. Other than them no I couldn't name any others, I generally just listen to Dethklok. My dad could probably name a ton though.

Thing is with dubstep is that you either love it or hate it, there is almost no room for being inbetween. Most people hate the genre because they can't comprehend it, and what someone can't comprehend they dislike. The comparison of these two genres is absurd also, never should rock be compared Dubstep. They're just two completely unrelated types of music, with having sound and tempo their only relation.

I used to somewhat like rock, and that's a heavy 'somewhat'. Until I found the electronic music few years back, I was stuck with a pretty overused genre with songs eventually being repeated by bands. Eventually moving into the D&B band Pendulum (Favourite band/genre) I stayed with that for a while, when they evolved to include more electronic style, that is when I wanted to find other types of similar music. When I found Dubstep, it probably caused by the finding of Skrillex and other artists on YouTube. Eventually I preferred to go into Brostep and DrumStep. Dubstep appeals to me because of the heavy bass that it is, and massive "drops" some have. People say "it's just created by a computer, so it's not music". First that's wrong. And second you're ignorant.

Music is defined by having a tempo, sound and rhythm. It is not defined by where it is made. Dubstep includes a strong sense of rhythm, nor anyone's fault you can't hear it. Dubstep as a whole is generally in a small range of tempo pace. And finally it has sound, and what do we have? A song.

Saying that, I do enjoy 'some' bands of Rock like Queen, because they never get old.

But when you listen to intense bass heavy songs all day long, you find yourself to really enjoy something that doesn't get repetitive.

No offence taken mate. I simply used A7X because they were one of the first bands that popped into my head. Also when I checked Wikipedia to make sure I had gotten my genres right they were listed as Heavy metal so that's what I put.

Lies and slander. I hate it because it bores me to tears... and this is coming from someone who listens to Progressive Post-Rock. BYAQ6.gif

Also, this isn't really a comparison between the two genres, the OP is just asking which genre you prefer. You know, like how I like Shoegaze, but dislike Grindcore, or how I like EBM, but (mostly) dislike Post-Hardcore. They're all completely different genres, but I still like one over the other.

The only real issue with the question is that Dubstep is a very specific genre, whereas Rock is a MAHOOSIVE umbrella term covering hundreds of styles and sub-genres.

A7X definitely have Heavy Metal elements in their music. The only reason I said anything was because, whilst I like some of their tracks, they're a far cry from what Heavy Metal actually sounds like, and probably not the best example to use for the genre. tongue.png

Notice when I said "most"? Didn't say all.

And yes this is comparing, because the OP asks you why you like which you prefer. Thus you're comparing two very different types of music.

I have to say I'm suprised with the feedback, I didn't expect so many comments. I noticed some people saying its unfair for me to use a large, ever expanding genre like rock against a small specific genre like dubstep. So I wanted to ask you guys if it would help even the odds if I made it only metal, or annother rock sub-genre instead.?

For the sake of argument, I'll agree. But... so what? In other situations, I might agree, but the OP was simply asking which one you prefer, why is this absurd? As I demonstrated, it's easy to prefer one form of music to another, even if they're completely different. If anything... that difference might make it even easier to prefer one to the other.

Whilst Metal started as a kind of sub-genre of Rock, it's grown so much that's it's just as big and diverse as Rock, if not more so. I recommend that instead of making the Rock option more specific, you make the Dubstep option more general.

But that's just me.

I agree when you say that they're not the best example to use. I did include Megadeth though if they can be classed as a true heavy metal band (if not then I really need to revise my genres). To be honest I don't really listen to Avenged Sevenfold much, I prefer to listen to Dragonforce or Megadeth and, if the mood strikes me, Parkway Drive.
