Acording to RT(there aren't any critic reviews yet for obvious reasons) eighty percent of the audience liked Equestria Girls, and the average rating is 3.8. For a movie, that's like a B or something. So that means it was actually pretty good! What do you think about this, and for those of you who watched, how was he movie? If you would like to give spoilers, just hide it under a spoiler tag or link to your own spoiled reviews.

I don't see the good thing on Equestria Girls, its just Hasbro trying to get more money from bronies who know that they will watch it. Did you even see Lauren Faust tweets when she saw the dolls? Its just completely obvious that Hasbro only cares about money. Even if its a good movie, don't let Hasbro win by having high ticket sales.

This could be the worst moment for everyone. Back on topic now! I've heard its good, but I highly doubt that they were paid by Hasbro.

Damn it! I just have to see it! But I can't...

You know, what still is my concern is that this movie will be a lead example for the difference between good and good. I have no doubt that it is most certainly well written. I try to ignore the fact that it just exists for marketig-reasons and a new toyline. And I trust in the sanity of the crew that some of the design choices weren't their fault.

But since it has humans inside it and and not ponies, my willing suspension of disbelief struggles with my ability to see Ponies as a different culture; a different, artificial society that I like. But humans...

Every point of critic someone can lead against the movie is now more valid than against Ponies. Because the viewer can more easily judge about something that actually has to display themselves at least a bit more than Ponies.

Well conveyed bad news are still bad news... I don't know if it's cliche. I don't know if all of them who already saw it were highly biased.

But I know that I will have my own, very subjective opinion of it. So I will read everything into it that my attitudes will allow me to read into it.

And now I have to sit here and wait until I can judge - justified - by myself.

Edit: Thinking of it again, I have one explanation for that 80%-likes. I tend to assume that most People there were actually those who were quite optimistic about the movie from the very beginning. And a 3.8 rating means nothing. If there were any totally disappointed, I guess they were siply outwighed by many who gave it a 3 or 4 and some who gave it a 5 out of being totally fanboyish.

I usually wait for both consumer and critic reviews before watching a movie, but this does sound encouraging. I have to wonder, though, about how many of these viewers were those who liked the idea in the first place. I doubt those who are negative about Equestria Girls would go see it immediately upon release. They'd probably wait for reviews or other information. It's also worth mentioning that movie rating scores tend to plummet within days after release. We may see this happen when the bulk of the anti-EqG bronies go to watch (we might also see the opposite, of course, if it turns out they like it).

Of course, there are those who are simply there to watch a cartoon. They may see EqG differently from how bronies see it. Either way, that the initial reaction is somewhat positive is good news.

On the other hand, IMDB's giving it a 2.3/10, although the trivial 14 ratings could simply be from disgruntled haters, and isn't enough to form any conclusions. At this point, I'm more inclined to believe the nearly 800 ratings on RT, although I'll definitely keep an eye on EqG's IMDB page in the days to come.

Still keeping my fingers crossed, but this movie might actually turn out to be good. Maybe the writers did pull it off, after all.

Man... what if, like, I don't care? I mean, what if, man? Hasbro's trying to make money? I don't care, man. That's, like, their thing, man. You know? It's what they do. There's a movie coming out? I don't care, man. There's more important things for me to care about, you know? Like nothing. Nothing is, like, totally something I care about. Sure I'll watch it, whenever the opportunity arises for me to watch it at home for free and I have nothing better to do. And that's, like, not because I don't want to feed the "greedy Hasbro dudes", it's because an hour and a half drive and $8-10 is totally not worth it for any movie.

Okay then, don't get upset when mlp becomes a girly show. Then, you will have a grudge there because you know you did something wrong.

I definitely plan on seeing it, but I'm not sure how, where, of when. I have suspicions that it will probably be pretty good, though. Good to know that I'm mostly right in harboring those suspicions.

If Hasbro does this correctly, this could effectively mark the beginning of a paradigm shift in modern society - - - now I know that might sound ridiculous, but it's essentially true.

Ponies really are on the fast-track to becoming a mainstream thing.

Wha...?

Um.... I don't know if you noticed this yet but... MLP already is a girly show. Always has been. You didnt think they created a cartoon about six magical colorful talking ponies just for the men's 18-35 demographic, did you?

I don't really care if it is good.

I didn't expect it to be bad quality, honestly.

Agreed. For me, it wasn't about that whole "it doesn't involve ponies" thing.  It's just the whole Highschool setting that puts me off.  Just way too dang cliche, and it's been done to death.  Both bronies and non-bronies know it was Hasbro's sad attempt to get in on the Monster High crowd.

Only difference between a turd and a shiny turd is the amount of polishing.  DHX has the talent, and they polished it into one heck of a shiny turd imho.  Personally,  I just hope Equestria Girls stays a movie, not receiving any type of series TV show.  The one thing I am getting irritated at is the personification of Twilight as the poster pony of the whole G4 scene.  I'm waiting for them to rename the whole thing My Little Pony: Twilight is Special/Wonderful/Awesome/Unique/Magic/Magical/insertwordofyourchoice.

I have this strange feeling inside me right now. I learned of the premiere a hour ago when I logged into steam and saw that Brian's Group had an announcement about it. I realized that it was today, and then I realized that I didn't know much about the movie. So I went, watched the trailer, and I was like "Huh... maybe I'll go see that." Then, out of nowhere, I felt... sad. I don't know why, it just... happened. Hundreds of questions raced through my head at once. "Will they continue the 'original' series?" "What's going to happen to the fandom?" "Can I manage to see the movie without being called weird or... gay?" I mean, I really should think more positive and stop over reacting, but I just can't. I was going to write a fan fiction, however, that I put months of writing into about a human being changed into a pony and landing in equestria, so maybe I'm just frustrated that my idea pretty much just happened in reverse. I just wanted Hasbro to keep off the whole "humans and ponies" scenario. I don't know...

Wow what is with all you guys nit picking at everything, expecting it to be the worst and yadda yadda yadda. You're waiting for critics and yet you be critics yourselves and haven't even watched the movie. Why are you putting so much negative emotions into this feeding your negative state into dillusional thoughts and ideas such as thinking the fandom is over, or mlp-fim is over. You guys seriously need to just chillax. See it if you want to and enjoy it while your there. Forget people's opinions that aren't part of the fandom of FiM because it will naturally have bias to it and that is not something you can do about so forget it. Since you already have watched FiM your bringing your own natural bias with you with all this negative thought about it when the truth is that there can be more positives about this. But I'm going to leave you to figure out what that is.

And Batbrony is right. It's too early too assume any site's reviews will remain very positive or very negative, especially since many reviews are either fanboys giving it a ten without watching it or people giving it a one without watching it.

Couldn't be more meaningless. 10 of the votes are 10/10 and 11 of the votes are 1/10. Those are pre-release hater/anti-hater votes. There's MAYBE a half dozen votes from people who have actually seen the movie, if that. Check on that in 2-3 weeks, when it's actually been released to most of the theaters it'll be in.

Ah, gotcha. I thought when you said that you were just referring to the RT score, for some reason.

Just got out from seeing it. And it was pretty awesome.

No, really. It was hilarious, suspenseful, the high school cliche was turned around in so many ways, and it was just all-around entertaining.

Go see it, if you can.

STOP THAT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. You're gonna make my expectations go up. I can't take it!!! GAAAAAAH!!!

Man, the chances of that happening are, like, slim to none. And besides, watch episode one again and tell me that shit ain't girly. We like the show anyway, man. Don't we? As for me, like, having a grudge, dude... Nah, you've never met me, man. I'm not about that life. You know? And I fail to see how me not caring, you know, influences anything, man...

Using aggregete score sites like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes are as reliable as Metacritic(in other words not really). From what I've been seeing, a lot of the reactions remind me a lot of "A Canterlot Wedding" in where the movie was a lot better than the initial premise and trailers showed. As for the reactions themselves, the ones I've seen have ranged from "Decent to Good" which helps lower some of the doubt I had

Also the idea of "My Little Pony = Not a girly show", that's funny stufff

He gets it very well.

Also, the high approval score on Rotten Tomatoes and low approval score on Internet Movie Database don't dictate anything.

  1. Just like you can hate a movie and know it's good, it's also possible to like a bad movie. "Liking" or "disliking" a movie (which dictates taste) doesn't mean it's good, bad, or average (which dictates quality). For example, 52% of people on Rotten Tomatoes like Cars 2, but that movie is terrible.
  2. Regarding the 815 people who rated Equestria Girls on Rotten Tomatoes so far, how do you know over 800 people legitimately saw the movie and didn't rate-bomb it just because it's related to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic? Likewise, check the rating chart for Equestria Girls on IMDB; as I'm writing this, only ten people didn't rate it a one or ten.
  3. Equestria Girls was released today, but not in all theaters; and there are plenty of people who won't get to see it until it either shows up on TV, DVD, Netflix, or YouTube because it doesn't air in their locations.

Just got back from seeing it.  As movies go it was probably somewhere around a 6/10.  However, I know and love the characters, and I don't go into it with the same expectations that I had going into Toy Story 3 (for example).  I thoroughly enjoyed EG, just as I enjoyed TS3 but I have no delusions that everybody else who saw it will share my enthusiasm.

Just joking. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have little doubt that it's entertaining. Meghan and the rest of the crew can turn almost anything into gold. I'm not a fan of the premise or the art style, but if I go see the movie, I'll be looking to be entertained more by the writing if nothing else.

This weekend, I saw This Is The End and My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. "Apocalypse" only applied to the former film, in my opinion. The latter was not only harmless to the regular series, but perfectly enjoyable for a MLP fan, with inspired bits throughout.

There seems to be an early consensus amongst people that the film was too short. Whether they realize it or not, I think that's actually a compliment.
