The good thing about haters

Ok, so I know what all of you are thinking, good and haters in the same sentence, but as many of you may not know is that without them, the brony fandom wouldn't be as big as it is.

So, what is the number one way that an Internet phenomenon spreads? Through Internet publicity of course. Basically, through the haters, the phenomenon took in so much publicity, whether its negative or positive, that more and more people hear about it.

So, I don't know about you guys but I became a brony partially because of the haters. I heard about brinies through all the hate, I gave it a chance, and BOOM! Now I watch cute little ponies run across the screen 24/7.

So I just wanted to hear what you have to say about it. I personally have to thank the haters for spreading the fandom and giving it publicity, again whether its good or bad.

I can't help but agree with you there! I actually became a Brony myself because of my anti-brony friend hating on them. So, then I decided to look up the show.

Thanks Brony haters! wink.png

Bronies would number far fewer if it weren't for haters. It's quite true that their influence makes the fandom pretty darn famous.

As far as I've seen, bronies are one of the few groups that have permeated almost all social boundaries in modern society.

Staring beyond; up past the moon - - - will we reach the stars yet soon?

Met quick with loss; no sure response - - - men reach up high with their thoughts.

How high it goes; still no one knows - - - the likes of which search thick in droves.

Yet looking far; up near the stars - - - truth knows no better than we are.

With silver thread; and clouded head - - - blissful 'neath the darkened dune.

I think you may be right, I think I first heard the word brony in some hateful comment on Youtube. I might never have heard of MLP if it wasn't for them, the haters certainly do give us a lot of attention and talk about us a lot.

This applies to almost every fandom in general. haters.

ESPECIALLY JUSTIN BIEBER AND ONE DIRECTION.

they wouldn't be even a quarter as famous if so many people hadn't spread the word about how horrible they are. same applies to mlp.

Yeah that's actually kinda true because I had never even heard of Justin Bieber until I started seeing everyone talking about him all the time and hating on him and stuff.

Honestly I dunno about you guys, but antipony people can be pretty funny sometimes. Yeah sure fine they're bringing more attention to the show and what not, but in another way I think they're also helping the community out more than people like to think. I've spoken with many fellow bronies who used to do some very socially unacceptable things that extend beyond the whole "oh I do gross thing when nobody's looking" that don't now because the haters spoke up about it. I know it's crazy to say this and you know there's a point when you shouldn't care, but at the same time there's a point where doing certain things just isn't acceptable and very few of the bronies would have spoke out.

Oh wow, I never thought of it like that. Through all their hating and spreading of hate. They are actually helping us grow in number. This is quite interesting indeed. laugh.png

Thank you so much haters! We will always love and tolerate you.wink.png

I actually became a brony from hearing about the hating of the show and how people were just fed up with it. I, being a very curious little pony decided to check the show out. My face for about a month:

You know sometimes it's always a good thing to check things

out that people hate. I bet if we got all of the haters to watch the

show they would all be amazed. The same way we were when we

watched the first glimpse of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I hate haters, but they do bring about two unintentionally good consequences:

1) Haters bring out the good bronies to speak up. They only encourage us in our bronydom.

2) they make people check out the show just to see if its really *that* bad, and they're pleasantly surprised when its not.

Some say there's no such thing as bad publicity (or something like that), and this appears to be true with MLP too.  I haven't given too much thought, if any, to the positive side haters have on the community, but it makes sense.  They're spreading awareness of the show, so in a strange way we have them to thank for the growth of MLP's popularity.

It's a good thing there are quite a few people out there who decide to give MLP a chance and don't automatically believe the haters before seeing the show for themselves.

I agree with what you're saying. It seems like a lot of bronies (including myself) became curious about it through a YouTube video or some form of social media. I think it's the 'weird factor' that draws people's attention, whether they think positively about it or not.

Hate is bad, but it causes us to build up resilience and resistance against hate and draws the attention of others to stand with or oppose us. So while hate is undesirable and negative in and of itself, it still yields positive outcomes.
