gaming Pokemon X and Y Discussion Thread

Well I accidentally saw the leaked final evolutions of the starters... I was trying to avoid spoilers, but that's not really easy.

The image of Fennekin's final evolution doesn't look great, but I think part of it is just the lighting; it still won't be as cute as I was hoping, but I think it will be more elegant than it seems from that one image.

Froakie's final form looks really... generic. Not like there's other pokemon already that look just like it, but there's just not much interesting to it.

Chespin's final form is a BADASS and has sealed its place as my starter for Y. Fennekin will still be my starter for X (along with Charmander and the event Torchic) but Y is probably going to be Chespin, Squirtle... and still the event Torchic because Blaziken is awesome.

Yeah, I was trying to aswell, but my temptation to see them was to great.

Oh well.

Im trying to keep myself from spoilers for this last week though.

Yeah, after seeing a few spoilers I'm trying to avoid them as well. The starter evolutions and some of the Megas are all I've really needed to know, but for anything else I'm going to try to just stick to officially released information.

I keep thinking about that list of mega pokemon that is of yet unconfirmed. after seeing that a couple of them are actually getting a mega, I'm wondering if volcarona really is gonna get a mega form. what on earth is it gonna look like? o .o

So, I see a lot has happened while I was away ohmy.png

Charizard getting an X form? Didn't see that coming. Seems a little overkill to be honest, but not a huge deal. Still like the Y version more.

Couldn't resist (or even avoid) the spoilers for the final evolutions of the starters. I'm not exactly in love with them but I"m not exactly disappointed either. Still sticking with Fennekin.

Right now, I'm just hoping that Sylveon turns out well. You should know by now that I'm a big eeveelution fan but, unfortunately, not every pokemon secures a spot in the metagame sleep.png. Of course, I'll still go out of my way to get sylveon no matter what and use her/him in battle, just out of sheer devotion img-1369822-1-UNZJLhS.png.  On a similar note, I'm still waiting to see that move list for flareon; don't let me down Game Freak wacko.png.

On a side note, I won't be able to pick up this game for quite a while after release so I may have to ditch this thread while everyone else rains down spoilers in here...

Yeah me neither, i think the other starters may be getting that.

And i kinda like X as far as looks better, but charizard with drought is pretty cool to.

I'm getting Y, but yeah.

I was overall pretty happy with the starters. Could've been better in some i think, but overall good.

And i'm hoping sylveon turns out well, i'm also hoping for another eeveelution, being a big eevee fan.

I'm using sylveon regardless.

And yeah i hope Flareon finally gets something like flare blitz, or something fire that is a physical move besides fire fang..

I'm picking it up on release date if all goes well, and i'm going to play the crap out of it... I'm getting to excited!

5 days from release, I can barely hold my excitement!

I have a few last minute hopes:

-Since the overal new Pokémon count seems

lower than ever before

, I hope that the overall new lineup is awesome and diverse, we've seen a few new unique dual typings/abilities but hopefully that makes up most of the list.

-I'm really excited for the Fairy type, and I really hope it gets a good distribution of physical and special attacking moves. Looks covered on the special front, but I hope they give physical Fairy powerhouses like Azumarill will likely be the moves they need for the Dragon killin'.

-The trainer customization looks good in practice, so I really hope there will be tons of options, and that no 2 trainers will ever look the same, hopefully(and maybe not make us wear hats the next game, plz).

-It'd be nice if Pokémon Bank came out sooner rather than later. I don't really want to use the service, I just want to transfer my Pokémon ASAP, December 27th is really far away and it'd be nice if I didn't have to wait that long for it and it came out a little sooner.

What I have no doubt about though, is that the games will be fun, beautiful, and probably the best games on 3DS overall(although Fire Emblem Awakening is pretty tough to beat imo, c'mon, it's freakin' Pokémon). I can't wait to travel around the new fully 3D region and play around with the new battle mechanics, and maybe even Pokémon Amie. Overall, this is one of my most anticipated games ever, and I'm sure it won't dissapoint me. :D

And for the record:

Team X

Team physical copy

Team Froakie

Team Charmander

Team Tyrunt

While it's true that this generation is seemingly introducing the fewest number of new Pokemon, it isn't unexpected. Take a look at this chart:

1nO8D4Z.png

Given the pattern over the last five generations, it makes sense that fewer new Pokemon are being introduced, while many existing Pokemon are getting Mega Evolutions. That being said, the Kalos Pokedex is rumored to be set at ~450. That is a lot of Pokemon inhabiting a single region.

Yeah, I figured this generation wouldn't introduce as many new Pokémon considering the past 2 even numbered gens. Plus they have to model every single Pokémon into cel-shaded 3D models so it makes even more sense that there's less than before. So yeah, I certainly expected it, I just hope everything introduced is good and not a waste is all. ;)

Ah only a few days left! This will be the first Pokemon that I have played to tell you the truth, so I am a bit nervous about it. I'm sure I'll be fine as long as I train all my Pokemon somewhat equally.

Also don't use too many pokemon of the same type. It makes you stronger against some, but screws you over with others. But a lot of it is personal preference.

Yeah I can tell certain types work better on others and vice versa. Like, fairy-type pokemon are supposed to be pretty effective against dragon-type pokemon.

I am sure I will play more entries if I absolutely love this gen. Heck, I bet you Ruby & Sapphire remakes will appear after Pokemon Z. :P

Let's remember, we all thought a pokemon grey was going to come out as a third pair of black and white, which never happened. Instead we got a dumb sequel to the two. Gamefreak might pull something like that again (im hoping they don't Pokemon Z sounds badass.)

I wouldn't oppose a 3DS remake for any of the regions. They could even expand on Kalos(if it's needed) after we've adapted to all the new changes/improvements they've made. Otherwise, a "Pokemon Z" could work well.

I enjoyed the story in Black 2 and White 2 the most. Plus, we got to see old characters take on different roles, some awesome animations, changed landscape, and plenty of great additions. It didn't feel like the 3rd version of the same game img-1913681-1-tongue.png Emerald and Crystal were fun (since they had enough distinctions and/or were a region I loved), but I'm not inclined to play Platinum. Have a feeling Gray wouldn't have interested me either, BUT the announcement of X and Y pulled me into Pokemon more than ever!

It's almost time to dive into X and Y biggrin.png

Yeah you better be getting it. :P

No need to be nervous about it, Pokémon is a great game series and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as long as you don't mind turn based battling.

And yeah, you should be fine as long as you train your Pokémon equally(do not be a starter-only trainer for instance, you really don't wanna do that) and have a balanced mix of good types and abilities. Having at least a Grass, Fire, and Water type on your team is a good start for instance, and then using whatever fits your team otherwise. I guess you could try memorizing the type chart as well:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Type_chart

Keep in mind that it applies to single typings only though, for dual typings the 2 types a Pokémon would be just blend into each other really, either amplifying, weakening, or sometimes even outright cancelling weaknesses and resistances between the types. It's easier to figure out as you go though. ;)

I wanted X to start with, because I genuinely liked Xerneas and Clauncher. And now we're getting so many flip-flops because people like Charizard X and Mewtwo X? Petty. Petty.

I actually like the Y version's megalutions better. :I

Also, again, I started out really liking Chespin, and I actually liked Quilladin - hate me for that if you want. And I think that Chesnaught's pure awesome. So again, I get lots of points for consistency. Yay for me not flip-flopping!

I remember when I was much younger and was playing my brand new sapphire game I had beaten it many times and let my brother play it. I always seem to have trouble with the ice type elite four member from any gen. I did as usual and had a balanced team with balanced levels and types. Then my brother cones in and sweeps everything and he only ever trained his torchick/combuskin/blaziken.

Ah don't worry, i'm sure you'll do fine! I've been playing pokemon since i was like.. 5 or something ;p, i'm sure you'll do fine :).

And yeah, train your pokemon equally, learn the typing charts, and everything else will eventually come to you i guess.

Good luck!

True, and i quite like so far black and white 2.  Atleast me ;p.

Anyways, as Zygen I would very much approve of a pokemon Z ;p. I feel as though its almost garenteed though.

I'm actually still awaiting a remake of Emerald or Sapphire and ruby...

Maybe we'll get one... Someday ;p.

I think pokemon Z is almost confirmed basically, i mean why else make it pokemon X and Y? And not like X And Z or something? It just completes the circle(Or triangle i guess.)

And yeah i quite have enjoyed Black 2 and white 2 so far. Aswell as all of black and white. Both are great I think.

And yeah, i think Emerald and crystal were fun(Although frankly i played just Crystal since it was one of my first pokemon games i played.

Emerald was a decent bit different to make it worthwhile.

I frankly have platinum because of giratina and how I can get all the legendaries, and frankly it just feels like i'd rather play platinum.

However i can understand that it doesn't have a ton of differences, the biggest is probably like distortion world that i can think of ;p.

Hopefully if they make pokemon Z it will differ enough, of course being a big pokemon fan i'll buy it anyways xD.(Besides Zygen pokemon Z, of course i'm gonna want it ;p.)

I went on a hitatus of pokemon kinda for a while, but over the summer i got back into it, partly for X and Y and partly just because my brother and me played a bunch of pokemon over the summer ;p.

Regardless my pokemon fanboyism is back full swing if not more then it was before.

I'm ready to dive into some X and Y!

I got the blue XY 3ds xl today. it looks really nice and I was surprised at how big the screens actually are

Sweet :D, i'm jealous kinda :(. Those look so awesome. But i already have a 3DS and i didn't wait and i don't really wanna buy an entirely new 3DS anyways.

Yeah you better be getting it. tongue.png

Yeah, train your pokemon equally ;p.

Actually to be fair when i was younger i was one of those people who more or less trained one of my pokemon, most of the time...

And i beat the crystal mostly doing that ;p. So.... i guess its not impossible.

Maybe alot harder in the newer games though.

I find the more you play pokemon the better you get use to it, like when new pokemon come out just playing the games i start memorizing all the pokemon.

I doubt i'll have alot of trouble remembering fairy's matchups, maybe for a small time.

So pumped for X and Y...

I know this isn't just for pokemon X and Y, but I want to know. I am a person who likes a team that stalls the opponent. What kind of pokemon are good for that sort of thing? And what do you think some of the new pokemon will be for this kind of team?

Well, I can't tell with the new pokemon, but off the top of my head you either want something with tons of defense or anything that has a huge block of health and can learn healing moves like Rest. Take Koga's Muk for instance, which had Minimize to make it impossible to hit, Swagger to make a Pokemon hurt itself in confusion and a high enough defense so that any physical attack did next to nothing and the ace of any stalling set: Toxic. Chansey and Snorlax come to mind as having huge amounts of health and somewhat decent defenses and can learn Rest to heal all that damage in an instant.

Claydol is also a good wall, especially once it learns Cosmic Power and can raise both of it's already high defenses at once. Basically you want something that can take punishment from just about anything and still remain standing.

@@Zygen, Haha, Pokemon Z sounds pretty sweet; especially if they merge the game exclusive Pokemon (like the Cotton Candy Pokemon and Perfume Pokemon) and add some cool bonuses. I know Platinum had the distortion world, but it didn't have enough allure for me; plus, I already had (Altered form) Giratina. It's also true that Johto is a favorite of mine, so replaying it was more enjoyable than replaying later versions.

Back to the theory of Pokemon Z: Which Mega Evolutions would you receive? Would you have a choice between the two, both, and/or something completely new (maybe Charizard Z, or better yet.......Charizard XYZ Dragon Cannon!!!...idk).

Anyhoo, the "confirmation" of Z seems a bit hazy. It's certainly poetic if you consider X and Y as dimensions in the game; allowing Z to be the final 3rd dimension of the first 3D Pokmon [handheld] game. I recall seeing a genetic marker (chromosome?) near the X and Y covers though; which, for all practical purposes, stops the lineage there.

Whatever we get though, future 3DS Pokemon games will be worthwhile!

I would think that if they made a pokemon Z they would let both X and Y mega evolutions available. Though the sound of a fourth kind of Charizard sounds pretty amazing since he is my favorite pokemon, for nestalgia reasons mostly.
