Okay okay okay. The emotions here are...uh...nice. Okay, I can't lie anymore. I'm going to be an Applejack here, IMO, They look horrible.

 

I mean, guys, compare this: 

With this: 

 

I'm using the emotes from Pony Central, in case you want to know.

 

First off, they both express SURPRISE. That's similar. But now let me critizise ours.

 

...okay, since she's facing right, where the heck is her muzzle? Seriously. I know they're supposed to look like emotes, but seriously, it makes it look ugly. The only one I remotly like is the Diamond Dog   one. and even that's pushing it. Next off, it doesn't even have EARS OR A MANE. That just makes it look more ugly, you think? Would be asking for a mane be asking a lot?

 

Next, the one from Pony Central. 

 

First off, it looks like a pony. Has a muzzle. Has a mane. It has a neck. Looks ripped right from the show. That's all great! Pony Central even has emotes not even from the show that look badass.

I vote the ones on the left.

 

And without their manes, they're hardly definable. If somepony doesn't like MLP, but joins MLP Forums to give Ponies a chance and learn, chances are they won't even know who the ponies are in our emotes! With more delph and the emotions look like their straight from the show, it helps for newcomers to search for that pony by actually knowing who it is.

 

Anyway, that's my rant. In all, I suggest for you guys to change the emotions to better ones.

Emoticon are, in no way, an importance.

 

However, my opinion on the matter is that they look "better."

 

While not aesthetically more appealing, they are more appealing in the sense that they are unique to the site. I personally haven't seen them being used anywhere else, and I'm assuming they're all originally from this site.

 

Using emoticon that are simply captures of random characters directly from the show just seems bland, to me, because that's what every forum in existence ever does.

 

While we could possibly improve the emotes a bit more, their level of importance doesn't seem high enough to me to really begin to touch up on the matter.

Lol you know what? I can totally steal the emoticons from that other forum and then put them on here, like this:

This has been brought up before.

 

MLP Forums has unique emoticons and we the staff only would like to keep it that way. Though I agree that cut-off vector heads looks better.

Those are from nopenope.com aren't they?

 

You could, if you want to.. Use the forum uploader and add them to my media. Then you can just add them by pressing my media and then the emoticon in your posts.

First press the Upload files button

 

 

Then you press browse and chose the emoticon. Then press attach this file

 

Now every time you want to add the image you press My Media and then chose the file you want

As mentioned earlier, I love the fact that these emoticons are unique to the site. And honestly, I think the ones we currently use are very cute. I actually prefer them over most full-head emoticons (that are similar in size to the current circular ones). I think that hair and snouts may be a bit unnecessary, but then again I am one who appreciates simplicity. I am just a fan of the designs. 

 

But you know, I suppose it's an opinion thing. If a change does occur I'll be fine with it. I am mainly posting to assure any mod/admin passers-by that the emoticons are very much appreciated. I think this thread is just expressing a want for emotes to expand out of their current form. Perhaps there could be a large selection available where you could select a MLPforums unique emote or a different style emote. It would be a shame to trash these cuties entirely, but again that's just my opinion

Well I personally like the current emoticon mostly because their unique and have that unique charm.

 

I believe thats the reason. Not sure but yeah.

 

It doesn't bother me that much what emoticons look like to be honest.

I personally like the current ones. They're unique, and have this charm to them that's hard to explain. In my opinion, the full head ones are a bit too big, and look weird for an emoticon.

I disagree. I love our current emoticons. They are unique, and they have a certain charm to them.
