So what happened to Celestia?

Yesterday I rewatched the first two episodes of mlp fim. When NM said that Celestia was gone I was wondering if nm really did defeat Celestia. In part two the princess magically appeared again. So was Celestia really kidnaped, or was she freed when nm was defeated?

I doubt Celestia was kidnapped. She was probably weakened and sent to the castle to heal herself by NMM, and NMM assumed she was dead and said she was the superior leader.

I'm going to say she was freed when Nightmare Moon was defeated because that just makes sense. She must have had Celestia in some magical prison of some sort and whatever spell was keeping Celestia inside was broken when Nightmare Moon was defeated.

Maybe she slept in? :P Or maybe, since she could no longer use the Elements of Harmony, she went into hiding? After all, she did trust Twilight to save the day by rediscovering the elements.

It is totally possible that Celestia knew that only Twilight Sparkle and company could, in theory, harness the Elements of Harmony and defeat Nightmare Moon.

I doubt NMM defeated Celest. It's more likely that Celest hid in her closest because she knew she couldn't defeat NMM.

Celestia sure does a lot of hiding doesn't she? The only time she takes real action was against Chrysalis and she was defeated! By the way, that is one if my favorite scenes. The godlike supposed Mary Sue (I hate that term but everyone is using it lately) character is defeated, showing that their is a limit to her power, and she is a goddess basically!

I digress. I assume NMM locked Celestia away somewhere the same as Celestia locked her away in the moon. Makes sense. That, or she just sat back and let the Elements of Harmony do the work, like with Discord.

@@Kyoshi,

That is, in fact, one of my favorite scenes.

*SPOILER ALERT*

But as we've seen in the Season 4 spoilers, Twilight delves into Celestia's memory of NMM, so we might get to find out the true story behind Celestia's absence. Lookin' forwards to it for sure...

How do you know that it's her memory?

I thought it looked like she had just returned tho it does make me think that it is likely to be the same place as before.

I do think celestia knew only twilight could defeat her so she she left twilight to it and observed her to see if she was good enough to be able to do so (and eventually become an alicorn :) ).

I think Luna took her to their old castle in the middle of the Everfree.  She escaped, but saw the light behind her.  That's why she returned in such a timely manner.

She went out for coffee, obviously.

Nah. A theory I read said that NMM locked her in the sun; I think Tia and Nightmare are pretty evenly matched with their power levels, and Celestia only defeated her the first time because of the Elements of Harmony. So when Nightmare Moon got transformed back into Luna, Celestia escaped?

Either that or it was bad writing and for the convenience of the plot.  ^_^

I'm pretty sure Faust said she was locked up in the sun. It would explain why Nightmare was so overconfident; she'd already won. If Celestia was still at large, it would be Nightmare's #1 priority to go after her.

@,

I'm not sure by whom, but in the first topic about spoilers, it was confirmed by the writers that it was, in fact, Celestia's memory, which I personally think is much less cheesy than NMM returning to haunt Equestria.

It is an interesting theory, being locked in the sun, that is. I'm not quite sure on its accuracy, but very intriguing.

To answer this we would have to know firts what exactly happened to luna during her exile. Why? because as evil and revengeful NMM is and considering she has a weakness for the melodramatic an theatrical side of things she would have use a "Poetic Vengance" giving Celestia the same punishment she received during the 1000 year exile.

I do believe that NMM was trapped and suspend in what we could call "a stasis dimension" entering a semi-conscious condition while surrounded by darkness and silence using its relation to the moon to "lock" her away from the world. If you were to ask me Celestia fell into a similar situation we could even estimate that she was "locked" using the sun that would never come out and with that also destroying the possibilities for the white alicorn to come back bringing as foretold "An eternal night".

So Celestia was trapped in that "stasis dimension" until her captor and creator for that dimension was defeated, shattering the lock and releasing Celestia in the same spot as her previous captor.

I think, ye knows wat NMM did to Celestia~ when it was 4:00 {Miss Moon used about 10 feet of rope to tie-up the princess on her bed & she had about an hour to do dirty thing's, before it would be 6:00 & all of time frozen} But, atleast... NMM would really want all of the subject ponies (Dreams) to eat.

And, Celestia~ knew Twilight would meet her new friends & become the Elements of Harmony... And was released, when NMM became defeated and turned back to princess luna.

@@DarligPegasi,

I don't especially like the notion of NMM sending Celestia to the moon. As we saw in the Nightmarity comics, there are tons of shadow-mist creatures on the moon, one of them being the puppeteer pulling NMM's strings.

So sending Celest to the moon would allow her to wreak havoc on NMM's shadow buddies.

Then again, alternatively, Celest could have been sent as prisoner, but that's assuming a lot of things. Ah, well.

O, Season 4, where are you? Save me from confusion!

But in the nighmarity comics they defeated the shadow mist creatures and turned them good?

I'm not sure they would be up for aiding her again after they beat the nightmare forces.

@,

Nightmarity happened way, way after the first two episodes. The nightmare creatures were still alive and being nasty until Luna and Twilight and friends stomped their faces in and then reverted them to their original, primitive dinosaur-like forms.

Pretty much this, though I think it was more along the lines of she liked to think that she was sent to the sun rather than definitely was. Until the show decides to tell us otherwise, I'm happy with this answer. I'm pretty sure that point won't be referenced again mind you.

I guess whatever sealed her broke the moment NMM was defeated and a weakened Luna appeared.

**SPOILERS**

When Luna is talking to Twilight, Twilight asks where did her and Celestia go. Luna then starts talking to Twilight, but as if she is talking to someone else. She also said 'Your glorious light' to which Twilight is very confused about. 'Glorious light' sounds very close to Celestia does it not? Plus, she also says: "There can only be one princess, and that princess, WILL BE ME!" Wait, one princess? What about Celestia and Cadence? This doesn't make sense if she is talking to Twilight directly.

So yeah, this has to be some kind of flashback memory thing. Where Celestia is at that moment is beyond me.

Well, it turns out she did know about Nightmare Moon's return, so I don't really know what happened. If she was taken prisoner, that means that she knew that Twilight would succeed in defeating Nightmare Moon. Celestia definitely trust Twilight, so this actually is probably the answer.
