technology Computer Troubles

So I had this problem with my computer today. I turned it on and when I tried to log on it said it couldn't verify the user account. I restarted my computer and the same thing happened.  I was able to look up how to fix the problem from my phone which involved starting in safe mode.  I followed the instructions exactly but it pretty much jacked my computer all to hell. My desktop was reset. I had to dig through files in my user account to find all my data like pictures and junk. My itunes was reset and all my playlists gone, but I found some of the files so it's more an innconvienience.

I got my internet working again, but it bothers me about the site not having a security certificate even though I know the site is good. Sites like Google and Youtube and even this one. It requires me to "add exception" for every site I go to and it's getting really annoying.

Does anypony know what the hay happened and how I can fix the internet problem? I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Seems like you really broke it. Might have to do what they call a "repair install" - that is, taking a Windows DVD and running an upgrade on the computer when it already runs the OS. Now, first question is, what version of Windows do you use?

I use Windows 7. I don't know what could have broken it. Nothing was wrong with it yesterday.  I'm mostly concerned about the internet certificate problem for now.

Buy a new computer?

Um, well I don't particularly know why you would have to add a site to security exception or whatever. But did you download anything?

If not you could try refreshing your PC and re-installing your OS.

Hope it helps

Have you tried smashing the PC to pieces?

If it's something up with the Operating system (like something was somehow deleted which caused it to go haywire or something) then i'd try to re-install it on your hard drive. If you don't have the disc though, its going to cost you like a hundred bucks :L

That's what I feel is something wrong, since it couldn't verify the user at first.

I'm not entirely sure what you could have done, when you booted up in safe mode what exactly did you do?

If the problem is ONLY whilst booted up in safe mode then that is logical, some user settings don't persist in safe mode, including internet, safe mode is intended for you to boot up into in order to fix a problem then you go back to normal mode.

Now, if these problems are in normal mode, we would need to know exactly what you did during your time in safe mode to "fix" the problems with logging in, my guess is that you've done something that has overwritten all of your user preferences, including internet ones, which is why it is not remembering certificates.

Thanks for all the responses everyone.  I got the internet problem fixed. I had to do an update then restart the computer. Now to get back to the long and painful process of rebuilding my playlists and the....sniffle....getting my Skyrim game caught up. :( So many hours lost forever!   Thanks again everypony! ^_^

Do you not have Skyrim on steam?...

It should have backed your game-save up to steamcloud. Not that it matters, i love starting over again on Skyrim, so much replay-ability.

I feel your pain on the iTunes playlist rebuilding, i have a few thousand songs (all bought) and i've had to re-download and re-add them all a few times now, so time consuming, the downloads take only a few mins but having to go through a load of CDs and adding all the tracks takes forever -.-

Sorry to hear this happened mate. I know how it is all too well. I once had a close friend send me a registry virus disguised as a mspaint file that changed everything to open through mspaint.... Even mspaint! Had to restore to factory settings via safe mode... It's a pain.

Actually I did so that's great news! I play a mage so redoing all that would be a struggle to say the least. The worst part of this now is rebuilding my playlists especially my MLP songs. Pain in my arse.

I was going to say System Restore, because it will backup all of your data, and restores it to its normal state. Just like restoring your iPod first than restoring from a recent backup.
