gaming Game Discussion: What's Wrong with EA?

Geek0zoid

Recommended Posts

Don't go into this topic thinking that I'm defending Electronic Arts. I honestly despise them. But what exactly do you think is wrong with them? I mean, occasionally, they release a good title. But, most of the time, the game feels so broken and so terrible, it seems like tested the game before releasing it. They're also huge money hogs. They're probably as bad as Micro$oft.

So, what exactly is wrong with Electronic Arts? What do you think they need to fix most?

Honestly, I just play the Mirror Edge and Sims games, so I don't have much experience with their video games. But, from what I've seen, they seem to have awful customer service. They did a good job of getting rid of that stupid online pass junk; so kudos to them.

Well, there are a lot of things wrong with EA whether it be getting rid of the online passes or charging a lot of money for downloadable content. There are many things wrong with the company, especially when they were voted the worst gaming company in America. They do have bad customer service, bad publisher feedback, and other heinous things.

They are a greedy company that tries its best to rip you off of your money even though they have millions to spare. Thus, like a lot of companies in the US, or world in that matter.

The main thing that gets me from E.A is the DLC crap they announce before they release a game. Why not put the frickin thing in the original game then? That, and their lack of information they give out. Take the battlefield 4 beta for example. Do you honestly think when the "accidental" reveal of being able to play the BF4 beta by pre-ordering MOH was really "Accidental"? They did it so more people would buy the game, than all of a sudden released that BF3 Premium members get beta access too.

All companies do something similar, but E.A is the worst.

Quite a bit of users have already mentioned EA's horrendous customer service and DLC but my biggest irk with them is that for whatever reason their developers have a history of releasing patches which break more than fix. Maybe I've just had a string of bad luck but after Battlefield 2, The Sims 3 and Dragon Age Origins getting game breaking patches I just decided to take my wallet elsewhere.

When games are being developed they're usually tossed in to one of two categories, it's either an art form or an investment (sometimes both).EA fall mostly on the business side of things with just about all of their games and from what I've seen most of the hate spawns from them being accused as "money hungry". Complaining about a company that tries to maximise profits just doesn't make sense to me. That's what it's for.

True, but there's a fine line between earning a living and being needlessly greedy. It's not cool when you split up everything so you need to individually buy it all. If done right DLC/expansions can greatly extend the life and worth of a game, but they ARE NOT doing it right. Look at sims 3, vanilla game barely has anything, so you buy the expansions to fill things out...and you're $500 poorer.

I'm not kidding, the full sims 3 game is around $500

I also still worried to EA. People complain their choice of game profit.

It's really bad what EA did, they are always in the money. Some of them will just waste to get pointless amount, which is not fair for Hardworking gamers. EA just needs a new money strategy. (It's really bad they ruined PVZ)

greed seems to be the bane of all companies, eather be loved by a massive fanbase. or be capitalist with money and use it to crank out games faster and stronger (did i forget to mention harder? lol) but this also brings problems, rushed games, skate one was cool, but i felt 2 and three were rushed way too much. same as the need for speed, now im a little nit picky when it comes to racing games, and unfortunately now when someone asks what is the worst racing game, i cant help but think ALL NEW NEED FOR SPEED (accept shift 1&2) they also feel rushed, that kind of thing just ruins quality for the gaming community

I'm pretty sure I've spent at least 250 US Dollars on that shit.

No more, EA. No more.

Like I said, almost as bad as Micro$oft.

My friend actually brought over Need For Speed 2 once.

I especially didn't like it's stiff control.

I don't dislike EA, they published some of the best games ever made (I.e. Timesplitters, Dead Space, The Sims), but their always online with their newest titles is cringe worthy. It means once their servers go down (They inevitably will) you can never play the game you purchased ever again.

Its because each game is shit. I'm annoyed that, even on Amazon, I paid 20+ dollars on Sims 3, but I can't play it without it becoming redundant in a sense. I can't do anything really fun on it because its the 'base' game.

Is it SO hard to add features of this degree in 1. Game?

Also, the ds versions are really bad. In Sims 3. 3DS, its labeled Teen but you still can't have 2+ people in the home. How is THAT a simulation?

The Sims is meant to be a life simulator, but I think it's safe to say that it isn't becoming a good one. In my opinion, because of EA's greed, The Sims has gotten worse.

It used to be good at one point, but the DS? They created this huge thing for the system, but it wasnt good since they ended quickly and you had nothing else to do. Then, they created Sims 3. On DS, its not life simulation. There isn't a school and you can't get multiple people. The PC version made it much better. (Hell, 360 was much better. It was glitchycharity on 3D's and it wasn't good just over all. It TRIED to be PC, failed. BAD) Why can't they make better sims games without buying extra shit we ddon't need?

  • 2 weeks later...

Idk, i haven't played a ton of stuff from EA.

But it seems the main problem that ends up being in most of their games doesn't even have to do directly with the game itself exactly.

Its just they seem to be a pretty greedy company, they release lots of DLC that they charge tons for.

They also don't really have a rep for good customer service, but i have no personal experience here.

Other then that, i can't say I had any direct issues with any of their games i can think of.

Only reason I use origin and like EA is because of BF3 and soon to be 4, and Battlefront (hopefully), maybe once and awhile I'll do some kingdoms of amalur too

only problem is the amount of updates for origin lol

I still remembered how they canceled Battlefront 3. I was royally pissed off.

They annonce the DLC before the game is even released.

If you're gonna announce the DLC before releasing the actual game, why don't you just put it in the game itself before releasing it so we don't have to throw even more money at you?

Yeah, i really don't agree with that kind of policy.

I mean i like DLC, i do, it gives me extra stuff to do, and as long as the price is reasonable(Which EA between releasing tons of them and being pricey normally isn't first of all.) I enjoy them.

However, if your going to release a DLC for the sake of it, then thats kinda dumb, I think of DLC as being stuff added after the game, not put in to snatch extra bucks, but to expand on a game after it is finished. Its like online games that update, except you have to pay for it.

But to throw it in just to snatch more money, thats just a cheap tactic.

They've removed online passes and they've done away with a lot of DRM that used to be implemented. They're a great publisher and Origin is far nicer looking and better working platform than Steam.

People are just whiny fuckers and I'm fed up with them. Shut up and play the god damn games. <3

EA isn't that bad, outside their shitty customer service and DLC dilemma, they're a pretty decent company.

Just because a game is considered shit by people doesn't mean they're a bad company, if I'd vote worst company in this country, it would be Bank of America, because they've stolen billions of dollars from people's pockets, taken millions of homes away, while their CEO gets richer and richer, EA on the other hand, just makes games, sure I hate their customer service, but also, EA has done a lot of good the last few years, they're among the most LGBT-friendly companies to work with, they have an excellent employee program, they donate much of their earnings to charity, and they want their devs to have fun developing games, while I was disappointed by SimCity, being a life long fan of that game, they still have some potential.

They have made good games, like The Sims, Battlefield, Mirror's Edge (They took control of it because no other developers would even touch it), earlier SimCities, heck I even think MoH is a pretty decent game, and Battlefield 4 and the new Battlefront looks promising.

Simcity. Need I say more?

(well I do to bypass the 100 character limit, but still. I don't need to explain this, as it explains it's self)

Simcity's DRM is absolutely terrible but If you're not a moron then you can find on the internet that it can be disabled.

Also, due to the problems with Simcity around the time of launch, they gave all people who bought the game another free game and some were actually quite newly released.

Once again, stop whining people, it's annoying.

There are many thinhs wrong with EA but nothing of it will change as long as people buy mindlessly their games, especially if they know what awaits them.

Like the shit with SimCity 5. Sold over one milllion copies!

@,

I like people giving their opinions on stuff. Even if it is negativity, I still like to hear or read people's perspectives on things.

That's what I want this thread to be; a thread where someone can post their opinion on the thread's topic.

People love to hate, so when they heard about EA being the worst company ever, they followed the bandwagon.

And EA is not that bad actually, if you played Nexon games you know what I'm talking about.

Glitches in game - May happen, coding is hard to do actually.

Problems with servers - It's not EA's fault is the fault of the company that runs the servers.

In game purschases - With all the piracy going on they need to at least make money.

So well, enjoy your games. Glitches are funny anyway, and they are here in every single games.
