Is she best pony?
Nope, far from it, but she isn't worst pony either.

Is she pretty?
Very, I really like her design.

Does she belong on the moon?
Nooooo, she has proven she can be redeemed (for lack of a better word), and she's very misunderstood, I think the pressure of living in her sisters shadow gets to her a lot.

Do you think she is better as a background character?
Actually no, if fans can come up with great fanstories for her I see no reason why the MLP team wouldn't be able to give her some more depth and screen time.

I have to admit, I really like her, but she has gotten to the point of being overrated because of the polls she's usually in and wins with landslides no matter the other contestants.

 

Also I've liked how they kept Luna in a secondary role in Season 3. Hopefully it'll stay like that.

I don't really understand Luna's fanbase, besides a spectacularly good design she doesn't really have any good qualities that have been outlined thus far, that might change in the future if she gets more screentime. I don't really think she had enough screen time for me to form an actual opinion.

I'm not going to lie...I REALLY don't like Luna. She's my least favorite character on the show. She's the overrated princess whose color scheme I don't even enjoy. I like Celestia, Cadence, and Twilight more.

 

I couldn't agree with you more, actually. I think Luna is one of the most overrated characters in the show, and I don't like her one bit because of it.

 

I love Princess Celestia more because she's been taking mostly bullpoopy from everybody. Everyone calls Celestia a tyrant, troll,

useless, selfish, the list goes on. I loved her colors and gentle personality, so I decided to stand up for her. But sometimes I feel like I'm the only one in the world that likes Celestia and dislikes Luna.

I find her slightly overrated, she's a good character and there were some great episodes about her (Luna Eclipsed, Sleepless in Ponyville...), but I prefer Cadance a bit more.

I think Luna is more than a bit overrated. and the way people respond to Celestia banishing her to the moon is just flat out stupid, to put it bluntly. 

 

"Omg Celestia is such a tyrant blah" because she sent Luna to the moon, when, you know, Luna totally didn't want to send all of Equestria to total damnation

 

Outside of the fandom's reaction to her (which is the whole reason she's not in my top 10 favorite ponies list) I think she's an interesting, multi-dimensional, engaging, and even a tad relatable character who is a total badass to boot She's got a great character design as well, which only helps

I don't like it when things are overrated. Not as in, "I dislike it but everyone else does" but when people put other things down because they're putting something that's just not as great as they're cracking it up to be on a pedestal like they do Luna - and the fandom has some lofty standards for her.

 

It bugs me because Luna can as much as make an appearance and people will consider that one of the high points of the episode, even though she hardly said or did anything. THAT sort of overrated bugs me, because it's going from being just overrated to being toxic to our judgement of things. That's just a pet peeve of mine.

 

Overall, she's a GREAT and interesting character who I would love to see more of, but the way the fandom treats her somewhat irks me and borderline ruins the character for me.

Have great respect for Luna,being banished to a prison for 1000yrs just for wanting what comes down to 'some love' speaks to me. 

 

I wish they would do more with her but perhaps they will in season 5.

 

Also i think her fandom is so loud/protective of her is because she relates to them. Jealousy is something we all can relate too,especially being punished for it.

I have nothing against her, and I like her design and a couple of her in-show moments.  But I actually preferred her as Nightmare Moon.  I also like P. Celestia more than I like P. Luna.  But I like not-a-princess Rainbow Dash more than the two of them combined, so...  xD  I'm an RD fan first and foremost.

There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, apart from that I also liked her as Nightmare Moon.

She's not the best character, but she showed a lot of good things in her debut and her subsequent appearences. She's definently more interesting than Celestia.

I personally perfer Luna to Celestia and these are just some things that I think/got out of her.

That's she's a very good alicorn to seek for advice guiding Scootaloo and best pony(Sweetie Belle) she really helped them overcome big obstacles in those episodes.

That her name is a really good nickname for a Lunatone.

And wow I guess that's about it but she is 2nd best pony princess(Candence is best)

I love her as a character but hate how so many fans in their support of Princess Luna go to such lengths to bring down Princess Celestia.

 

More, how somes fans are willing to try and justify Princess Luna becoming Nightmare Moon by trying to put Princess Celestia in the wrong. To villainize the older sister who prevented eternal night and an era of evil, as said Lauren Faust.
