My turn to talk about an ignorant person at Walmart

Father: " It's the government. They're teaching you to be more sensitive and turning you into half-girls."

Why am I not surprised that the father hates the government? It seems like blaming the state is the go-to argument for jerks these days. "Oh no! The rest of society isn't as hateful and cruel as me, it must be the government brainwashing people!"

I honestly don't know how to respond to this, but, why would he beat his own child up just because this person bought a folder? All he did was buying a MLP Folder, and the dad glared at him

You don't know why. I don't know why. You just don't know him and don't know how he treats his children at home. Furthermore, anyone who is that possessive of his child and his/her actions is more than capable of laying on the disciplinary action if things don't turn out the way they want it to. I've seen it happen. It's because we don't understand the true nature of their domestic life that you don't go around purposely trying to get a rise out of people. It's silly, it's immature, and the consequences can be severe.

What if the boy was standing up for himself later on that evening and used you as a reference to back his claims? "B-b-but I saw that one guy h-have one-" His father could promptly respond with a smack in the face or more derogatory words. It was just a very careless thing to do.

There is no worse enemy than the one incapable of knowing why they may be wrong. That is this boy's father in this case. The Father felt a need to teach a son a lesson, and a random stranger apparently makes little of it by openly defying his logic. It's just . . . wrong. Keep your nose out of other family's business unless it's threatening the physical well-being of someone.

I didn't buy the folder to spite him, I jut really wanted a MLP Folder.. And I wasn't getting into their business, as he was making a scene so that everyone in the isle could hear.

That kid should've picked up the MLP folder, just to spite his dad. :umad: Some people are really ignorant; it's kinda sad.

I have a story, though it isn't from Walmart. We were at a frozen yogurt place, and we were waiting in the line to get toppings. This lady and her kid were in front of us. The lady told her boy to get whatever toppings he wanted, so he started to put strawberries on it. Then he reached for the chocolate sauce, but his mom suddenly went, "What are you doing?!" and snatched the bottle out of his hand. Setting it back down, she turned to her son and said, "We don't put chocolate on our strawberries."

With that they went off to pay. My mom and I looked at each other and struggled not to laugh until the pair had left the shop. :comeatus:  It was so strange! I don't know if that's ignorance or just some weird thing taught in that family.

FYI, chocolate is really good with strawberries.

Oh, ok. I guess I can understand

But like TheBronyHeart said

He wasn't trying to get in the fathers way, or just trying to, well, you understand.

He just wanted a folder, he was not trying to be rude.

Please understand that

Keep your nose out of other family's business unless it's threatening the physical well-being of someone.

First, psychological well-being is just as important. Second, if the father is the kind of person who would beat his kid for not conforming to gender roles, then the well-being of the child is threatened whether someone get involved or not.

And third, I just about had it with people using the possibility of bad consequenses as an excuse not to stand up for others. This is the most vile, disgusting and revolting argument I have ever heard.

I do. Terribly sorry, I didn't mean to be a thorn in anyone's side. Well, I technically did. Someone has to live up to this awesome username. I'm sorry you guys bear witness to callous, narrow-minded people at local shopping centers.

Thankfully the folks at our local Walmart Supercentre are very respectable people. They're always so accommodating and kind when we come by to shop for groceries and the like. They even put their flag at half mast to show respect for an innocent murdered by what looked like a thrill killing (he lived in our town). They kept it down until his funeral, so I knew for sure it was for our fallen brethren.

I hate that fake macho BS, so just because someone is a man they can't have sensitive side or like cute things? And while pink may not be my first choice of a color whoever thinks pink can't be manly obviously hasn't heard of Brett Hart.

An idiot is an idiot regardless of their political views, he hates the government and I do too but I still don't like being associated with someone like that.

1. Well, duh. Thanks for reiterating a fact no one bothered to mention because quite frankly it is irrelevant.

2. That's just speculation on your part. It's the unknown variable that should keep you from stepping it at all. He could be a great guy who's down on his luck. Maybe his wife is sick.

3. Now this takes the cake. It would be different if one were witnessing actual hazing, disruptive behavior, or violence. This was just a dad trying to teach a child what he felt was right.

"Were we arguing? I'm sorry." - Fluttershy. Since when were we arguing? I don't know you and your opinion holds no water with me. I just know I'm right and was reinstating my humble opinion.

Also to stay on topic, that's truly terrible that there are callous people roaming around with limited mentalities on how the world is ran. It's very saddening.

*EDIT* OH MY GOSH, I AM NOW A CUPCAKE. *UNEDIT*

Ha, I've seen that folder around too, in fact I would probably get one if I was going to school, or needed folders for folder things... ;)

Anyway, sad what happened between that boy and his dad, very much typical if not a bit understandable though, still a shame that things like that happen often. I hope your grabbing of that folder prompted the kid to beg for the pink folder even harder. :yay:

So apparently the government is responsible for hurricanes, tornadoes, turning America into a socialist Muslim authoritarian police state (that is still freer than actual police states), shootings and other violent acts in every country in the world, everything else bad about this world, and your son wanting a pink folder. Okay.

That's almost as bad as going "Damn Obama! He didn't go to the grocery store to get more peanut butter!" XD
Well, he DOES need to get his peanut butter. It's very important and national security depends on it!

If only he knew that pink used to be a colour that was actually associated mainly to men.

I don't understand his comment about the government though, unless there's a government sponsored "sensitivity course" or something.

I know! I have a cousin that came over a couple of years ago, when he was about 10. We were into a game called Pet Society on Facebook at the time and got him into it. The game was kind of cutesy, it was about decorating and dressing up your pet that you make. The graphics are really cute too. But when his dad came back over he said "What are you playing? This is a girl game. What did you do to him?" And he stopped playing after that.
He said it jokingly but still, really? Let him do what he wants to do. People need to get rid of the girly/boyish illusion.

By the way, I have the same folder. Along with a bunch of other walmart pony folders and notebooks. Folder buddies yay :derp:

In the 1700's, when the pink was first introduced, it was meant to be a boy color. But it became a girly color for whatever reason. Weirdly enough, there's no boy colors.

Anyway, I don't see what is wrong in a color, his dad was overreacting. And nice folder! I'll try to find one ;)

About an hour ago, I was school shopping in Walmart for supplies. The current one being folders. As I walked into the isle, I noticed that the majority of the items on the shelves were already taken. The only Folders that remained were Tinker bell, hello kitty, My little Pony, and pink folders. Now, there happened to be a boy and his father there looking for folders as well, the boy to me seemed to be bout 13-14. Now, given the selection, he chose a pink Folder. The father, who before this wasn't even paying attention, was aghast.

Father: "You are NOT getting a pink folder!"

Boy: "well why not?"

Father: "Because pink is a color for girls. Jeez... what is it with you boy today?"

Boy: "What are you talking about?"

Father: " It's the government. They're teaching you to be more sensitive and turning you into half-girls."

The father then ruffled through the folders until he found a black one and forced his son to take it instead.

I then picked up one of the My Little Pony ones and walked out of the isle. Catching a glare from the ignorant father on the way out.

 :3

Here's the folder I got. :D

My friend Charlie (shes a girl) got a notebook with Rainbow Dash on it and everyone is perfectly ok with it and were Juniors in High School! I have guy friends who ware pink shirts and aren't gay too! how is a kid getting a pink folder gay?

Well even though that was a funny story. I think it was more of a overprotective father than an ignorant one. I bet he jump to the conclusion that his son would be teased for having a pink folder and made up some BS so to convince his son otherwise.

Whenever I do something that makes a person react like that, I just flash them an evil little smirk. It's pretty much IRL trolling except you actually have a reason to do what you're doing, but just having fun with it. I probably would've made a snide comment about how ridiculous he sounded and laughed at him too. It's Wal-Mart. There are cameras everywhere. He can't do a damn thing about it. :comeatus:

Seriously? Parents these days are so sexist and judgmental.

My Mom thinks my boyfriend wouldn't want to be in my room because it's pink and she believes men don't like cake.

Stuff like this really makes me angry.

My thoughts on the subject: The government is turning boys into half-girls? What the heck is a half-girl? Is that like a hermaphrodite or something?

Second: Oh my gosh I totally want that folder! I would use Twilight's brain power to enhance my own. :P

That father sounds like a total idiot. The government has nothing to do with it and I hate it when people blame the government for everything, it's ridiculous. So what if the boy wants a pink color, what the hell is wrong with that? I find it pathetic how most girls can enjoy "boyish" colors like red or blue or whatever and it's fine, but when a boy likes "girly" colors, it's the end of the world.

Annoying and ignorant.

I guess blaming the government for non-related things is a trend now. That makes me want the folder, and the father must be a jerk because it isn't like the world will implode if he gets his son the pink folder. Pink is a guy color in some aspects. :P

I really does seem like it; where I work at the library I overhear the government getting blamed for everything from our doors not having handicap buttons to having to pay overdue fines -_-

P.S.  I really want that folder ^_^

Points for trolling. It's fun doing things that tick people off in such a way they can't say anything without sounding silly.

Does colour really matter, it's function that counts. Another point: You have to be secure in your masculinity to walk about with something that's pink or MLP related. The fact that the guy blamed the government...*facehoof*.

In general, colour preference is a matter of individual taste. Guys might like "girl colours", and girls might like "guy colours". The only reason males don't like "girl colours" is that there is a social stigma, so the colour ceases to appeal to them. Some people like pink some don't, but that is meaningless. I myself (a male, for the record) don't mind muted shades of pink and purple.
