Is Tumblr Worth Getting?

I think you mean "Is Tumblr worth getting", and yeah, I guess it is. Most people just reblog stuff ad infinium, but I actually use it as a blog. Lots of funnies on Tumblr.

I think you blog stuff about yourself, and reblog stuff from others...

It´s just another site for self-promotion (not that this is a bad thing though it can be overdone), so you will find millions of blogs of people just posting 100s of pics (instagrammed,of course) of themselves, for example. Others use it for art of any kind, or to blog what they had for breakfast and stuff.

So, you gotta decide :).

Well, it's free, so even if you don't like it or don't end up using it, there's no risk here. I would say to get it just in case, I barely know anything about it, and worst-case scenario, you end up deleting your account. So, yeah. I'd say it's worth it.

It's a good way to express yourself. Also, other people can find your posts easily if you give them accurate tags, which means making yourself known is pretty easy too. You can also make a private blog too. It's pretty neat. I have a MLP one on my profile page if you want to see an example (it's not that big of a deal though..). Tumblr is also really image friendly, so if you want to upload lots of images, it's the way to go.

That depends on what you wanna do with it. If you plan to reblog stuff or promote your own artwork or anything like that then it can be good (though I don't think it's particularly different than Deviantart, just a different format) but if you just wanna use it to follow artists you're better off bookmarking pages you like or using RSS Feeds to keep up with artists though if you have no account you won't be able to comment I don't think.

Remember kiddies: RSS is your friend. You don't always have to make an account. ;)

I think it's pretty great! People use it in different ways, so it really just depends on what you want to do with it. Roleplaying's popular, art blogs too, and sometimes it's just a nice way to collect pretty/funny pictures. It's pretty flexible, and honestly, as an artist, I like it better than deviantart, it feels easier to get your stuff out there.

But I guess going from your sig, you're a roleplayer, right? It can be a little bit clumsy on that aspect, just trying to get out there and get RP partners, but if you make the effort, it's worth the while.

I am using Tumblr to promote my future career as an author and my youtube videos particularly those dealing with the same subject my book will be dealing with and that is my experiences with Autism. I have only posted 2 videos so far and they are a bit older as it has been a while since I have had time to make any but one of them has gotten several reblogs and likes in a relatively short period of time. I don't know if I just got lucky or if it is really that effective but I am going to try to keep at it.

I got into tumblr for like, a day. I never really went on it again. I honestly like Pinterest much better but that's just my opinion.

I have known people who love and are obsessed with tumblr so I don't know about you.

I'm not really crazy about social media in the first place; I prefer forums.

Tumblr is much better than Facebook because it specialises your interests and is pretty active. It's also better than Twitter (more to post than "breakfast"), and Instagram (though both are rampant with pictures), but... I'm still not fond of it. Interesting, yes; hosts one of my favourite doujinshi libraries, yes, but it's so easy to abuse and there are way too many factions.

I personally find Tumblr hilarious, but I never had a reason to sign up for it until they added that limit for tag searches. That blows. I may register for it just so I can search around, but that's my opinion. If you want to actually USE Tumblr, I feel it's very pointless and you can get lost among the people if you're just reposting things. If you create your own funny posts and what-not, go for it. But I still suggest making an account just for the sake of being able to search around. I could sit there for hours looking at some of the things there.

  • 6 months later...

I currently use Tumblr because of it's funnies and stuff. It's a nice place. Fun.

But, if you use it for a more serious matter, you can.

It doesn't matter what blogs you even follow. You can follow art, story-teller, and world news blogs if you want a serious blog.

If you just want to have fun, well, it's your choice. What excites you? Gaming? Funnies? Memes?

Again, it's your choice.

Have fun!
