technology Phoneblocks

You have maybe heard about phoneblocks. (google it if not)

I like the idea but think. It will get very exspensive to produce parts to, and be very big becouse normal phones have the parts pushed as tight as possible.  :okiedokielokie: (probably a bit ugly as well)

What is your opinion, do you think this idea will evolve into the future? :muffins:

I think it's a good idea but unlikely to be good enough as a product to compete in the phone market, the only way I see people buying them is if they are super cheap. More than anything, I see them as being an idea for a larger phone company to take and refine, who knows, maybe well get iPhones with real battery life!

YES! I was waiting for someone to come out with a thread for this! I honestly think that the Phoneblock is a spectacular idea, but as Lost said it will be a rough start for them. Companies like Apple will try to shoot it down out of the gate because they like their stuff "home made", but for other companies such as Android will welcome this new phone and try to put it as a member of their family. Or at least that's my long term assumption.

The idea is nice, but I don't know how this would exactly work in terms of the hardware. Plug a block in anywhere and it will function? That would likely take a fair bit of work to get going, especially to get the screen to just swap out like the video I found showed. Then again, I'm not a hardware guy, so I'm not exactly one to talk about what can and can't be done with hardware.

I think we may eventually get to a point where such an idea is feasible, but that time isn't now. The market is too tight and no doubt everyone in the industry would be working against this idea with a passion. Also, the technology just isn't there yet. If this was to be produced, it probably won't be anywhere near as sleek or as simple as it's being portrayed without some massive costs attached to it.

It looks pretty frickin' rad. I like it. Too bad it'll have to compete with other companies, while it is such a better alternative. I'd love to have a few different memory blocks on the go for different functions. The small sizes allow for easy storage even when travelling. And hey, you can even have multiple batteries with you!

It takes the idea of the Personal Computer and puts it in a phone, which I think is great because customization and adaptability are still elements I miss in most modern hardware. Not only could this allow for trading and selling your older components, it allows for a phone that essentially could last a lifetime and still be up-to-date with everything.

I think that it's an awesome idea, and would buy it if it existed. It'll help keep the Earth clean, and make phones super customisable.

However, as others said, big companies are going to try to stop the development for this.

The phone is also not that good to look at, since it is rather thick and big. A back cover would be beneficial as well, to minimize the possibility of the blocks themselves from falling out. If you could change the color of the whole thing, that would be a great push to drive people to buy it.
