G1 Main Characters

So, although I haven't seen any of the other generations of My Little Pony (except the first two specials), I have been able to figure out who the main characters are based on the TV adaptions and toys only. For G4, it's the Mane Six, for G3 and G3.5, it's the Core 7, and for Tales, it's the Seven Ponies in the intro. But, when I came to G1, I struck a problem. I have found no way to identify who main ponies were supposed to be, in terms of appearances on the show and in the toys.

 

So, I was wondering, if anybody else had any idea on who the main characters were supposed to be for G1.

I've watched a few specials of the first generation, and I have to say, if I had to choose a favorite after FiM, then G1 would be it. Lack of astounding animation aside, the characters were okay, and the writing wasn't constantly cringe-worthy. However, just like you, I had absolutely no idea who the main characters were. I think the human was a mane character, then Firefly, I believe; Twilight was one, and Applejack is the only other name that I know. She didn't seem to be major though. Other than that, I had no freaking clue. I just rolled with it.

I think Twilight and Applejack were one of the main characters in Generation One but, it's not as bad as people say it is. The animation was pretty bad, I've seen bad writing in other cartoons so the writing was not that bad. That's all that I remember.

Actually, if you watched G1, you'd see that the main characters in the first movie were eventually going to be the main ones for G4.

A human named Megan, her little brother Danny, and little sister who I can't remember the name of were main charcters, I think Spike and Applejack were ones as well, There was also Surprise, Twilight, Fire Fly, Posey, and whoever Rarity was based on, but I'm not sure if they were all main characters. Then again, most of these are wild guesses
