Male Alicorn?

Shining Armor should have been an alicorn. I would either have had both he and Cadance be alicorns or none of them be, but unfortunately Hasbro would only make Cadance be one because of their outdated and simply put, sexist, marketing practices. Unfortunately, it's just too late for anything of this caliber to be put into the show and make sense.

I will just boil it down simply to the fact that it's up to Hasbro's marketing whether or not there are new alicorns, and unfortunately their marketing strategy is too rooted in a division of the genders (even after a girl called their bluff on the Easy Bake Oven and they caved just for positive PR) to allow for this kind of thing to happen. It sucks, but that's the way they work.

I was an alicorn once, but then I took an arrow to the knee it was an April Fool's joke.

I think we should have a male alicorn. Becoming a princess in the show means you have done something extraordinary or have exemplified many traits of a good leader. Little boys watch the show too, and it'd be nice for the show to say: "Yes, even boys can become heroic alicorns."

Before someone says: "But boys have enough role models in different shows!" Imagine having the male alicorn be a hero that isn't just about using violence to get his way.

Having a Male Alicorn would make my day, tbh.   However, I have always wondered why hasn't been one in the series, yet i hope there is one along the line

I'm pretty certain that a stallion could become an alicorn, especially if it's Celestia that grants ascension to worthy ponies. If it is indeed based solely on her decision, then I cannot even begin to imagine her refusing an eligible pony because they aren't a mare; that just sounds ridiculous IMO.

Now, that doesn't mean that the show actually needs to add one, especially without a good reason, and that goes for any alicorns, male or female. If we do end up seeing more alicorns though, I'd prefer for them to have 'important' roles like Celestia or Luna, rather than just making them normal royalty. Also, characters shouldn't be added to show based solely on their gender; they should be added based on how interesting and unique they are. Although, I'd imagine many of us were hooked by the prevalence of enjoyable female characters, so that large cast of female characters with speaking roles is indeed a very nice thing. Besides, other than the main cast, the character roster isn't really overwhelmingly dominated by female characters, especially in this season where there has been an influx of male side characters receiving speaking roles.

I would really like to see it confirmed that stallions could ascend though. Personally not a fan of the whole "Alicorns are female-only" theory/headcanon or whatever.

Why hasn't there been one in the show? Well, first off, there was originally only supposed to be Celestia and Luna; if that were the case, then this whole discussion wouldn't even be necessary because they would be the only alicorns period. Anyway, Cadence for example was originally supposed to be a unicorn, but Hasbro intervened and changed that for the sake of marketing. Little girls love princesses, and Hasbro thinks that making those princesses alicorns will make that love even stronger. They're probably right, so you can't really blame I suppose.

It seems alicorns are specifically reserved for females. While there is fsn art of male alicorns, the only princes we know of are both unicorns. Blue blood and shining armor are both unicorns. Twilight wasn't always an alicorn, so the reason that shining armor dint become an alicorn is because the closest he can get to that is a unicorn.

My personal head canon says that Alicorns are both Male and Females, they just choose to stay in which ever form is more popular/comfortable for themselves.  I actually have little to no idea where this head canon even came from, I was just like, "What if they are both guys and girls and they just like being girls more and that's why we don't see male alicorns..."

To be fair, Twilight and Cadence earned their title due to outstanding achievement, and Shining Armor and likely Blueblood didn't, so there is a difference between the two there.
