[Spoilers] Speculation of whether My Little Pony comic series are canon

I realised that Season 4 episode 4 will be about mane six helping out Rainbow Dash's favourite author, and I'm certain that author is author of Daring Do. And I think with this episode, we can finally know whether My Little Pony comics are canon with TV series or not.
Why?

 

This is from My Little Pony comics #11, and it shows that Twilight Velvet, Twilight's mother, is none other than author of Daring Do!

So, if Season 4 episode 4 depicts Twilight's mother as the author, we can be certain that My Little Pony TV series accept comic versions as canon. If other pony is used as author, then no canon.

I really hope that Twilight's mother is actually the author of Daring Do mostly just because I love everything about the comics though and I kinda hope they do something on the return of queen chrysalis xD though if they made the comics canon it would be beyond amazing :3 (More than anything I want to see rainbow dashes reaction to it xD)

Nice find! Actually in Read it and Weep Twilight says she owns all of the Daring Do series, so it is likely that Twilight's mom is the author.

 

I can picture an episode where Twilight's mom runs out of ideas for the Daring Do series and Rainbow Dash tries to help her get some inspiration and basically write a Daring Do book. I can tell Season 4 won't be a disappointment.

Nice speculation. But, sadly the comic book series isn't canon since it isn't tied to the normal story arc in the show. So, I could picture an episode like that.

OHHH. TWO PARTS OF THE MLP UNIVERSE ARE ABOUT TO COLLIDE WITH POTENTIALLY MORE EXPLOSIVE CONSEQUENCES THAN ALICORN TWILIGHT!

 

I'm serious. Rainbow Dash is held in such high regard by the fandom that anything remotely involving her seems to go down awfully. 

 

 

 

That's my opinion, anyway. I'm really looking forward to finding out whether the comics are canon or not.

Well, if I recall correctly, Andy Price says the comics are as canon as we the authors want them to be. He allows the readers a lot of flexibility here. I personality take them as semi-canon, so if there is ever a canon clash, I'll always take the show's side.

It is somewhat canon. The people that work on the comic check with the people that work on the show before doing anything. I know they had to scrap one comic because it was too similar to an episode thats happening in season four.

 

I really hope its Twilight's mom. I love the comics so I would love to see them connected at least somewhat.

 

In my mind, the comics are canon even if it really isn't, if that makes any sense.

That is a pretty good idea. In fact if I remember right, in the MLP game app, it says Twilights mom is a story book writer. Not sure what kinda of books, but it could be Daring Do. That should be an episode, if true.

OK, I just watched the episode, and Nope, My Little Pony comics are not canon for TV series.

Personally I feel that the comics can be taken as semi canon. Some issues like the Shining Armor and Cadence one may be used to tell the canon backstory of those characters, but other issues like the Nightmare Rarity arc are obviously not canon since it shows the transformation of the current Princess Luna from the way she was after she was defeated. That transformation doesn't really go well with canon.

 

So some stuff in the comics may be canon and some isn't, therefore this thing about Twilight's mom being the author of the Daring Do series may be true and may not be I haven't seen the episode yet so I guess I'll find out soon

I like to think that's an award hanging on the wall, the "Daring Do Award" for adventure literature.

Much like is done in the real world, people who get awards are usually not the same person the award is named after.

Official word from the IDW staff is "canon if you want them to be", and I think they're awesome, so I think of them as canon.

Parallel with some crossovers is a better way to look it I think. The comics try to stay true to canon, but they also do what they need to do for the story at hand. If I had to rank the different media I'd do it thusly:

Fanfic

I put analysis above the others ones because, as I see it, we're trying to explain what we see and how it fits into the larger universe. Analysis ain't for entertainment strictly, instead it's an unofficial user guide for the show.
