Frost grabbed himself a plate of the stir fry and started to eat, finding himself next to Blast, he hadn't spoken to the stallion since they had starred their train ride. He swallowed his mouthful of food before tapping him on the shoulder, over hearing his conversation with his buddy Eclipse, another pony he hadn't spoken to in a while. "Hey Blast. At the consent of the unicorn, he placed the cone over his horn, and watched the gauge on the input line. He spoke at the gauge as Aegis questioned what was going on. "Calm yourself Aegis, nothing is wrong.. as yet. Though, something is very strange indeed." His eyes narrowed, watching the gauge needle rise higher and higher. Suddenly it shot into the red line, and caused his battery to blow out with a loud bang. "What the!?" Magical smoke spewed from the pack, causing the room to look as though it had been filled with a white haze for a moment. Clockwork removed the cone, and recoiled with his precious device in hoof. Examining it, he foung that only one core out of the six had blown out. thankfully. His puzzlement was at an all time high now. His battery readings showed there was nothing in the cells, but there was still power to his wings, and the core that ruptured had been overloaded, indicating there was something in it to cause an overflow of energy. "This isn't unfixable, though it will be annoying having one less cell.. I'm baffled. I cannot tell what's going on.. My battery should be reading as full, something must be causing it to malfunction. The energy you discharged just now was of a level I've never before seen." He collected his gear, and replaced it into his pack. He returned to his stir fry, taking a mouthful.

Midnight Scribbler

@@SilverHeart,

Scribbler nodded his agreement, and understanding. "You and I both.. We have each others backs, you and I. I feel I can trust you more than anypony else here as of now." He made certain that they were out of Orion's earshot as they walked along. "I'm beginning to think Orion may not trust us either.. He's been acting strangely of late. I'm beginning to worry the Litany has left his mind broken. It is as if he's forgotten my show of trust, when I saved Willow from that dungeon.." He lowered his head, in a slightly melancholy fashion. It hurt him to think that his deeds had been so quickly forgotten. He hoped it wasn't so, but the way Orion had acted, he wasn't certain anymore.

Denarius eyes carefully peered over Scribbler's face, a smile crept over it. A sign of respect perhaps? Still, it was obvious that he didn't trust him. Despite the pony's apologies to him, this individual's subtle wordplay so obviously told his true feelings towards him, whether he wanted his words to or not. Clearly, he would not be swayed so readily by a few shrewd words. Even still, this show of respect was at least a start, and a welcome change from the Scribbler's somewhat prudish behaviour of earlier.

Denarius flashed Scribbler a relieved grin, and strode away from the stallion. He watched as Scribbler did the same, yet his trot curved towards the unnamed mare from last night. No doubt, those two would probably wish to discuss him. After all, Denarius was still nothing more than the aberration to most within the group, it was to be expected.

Chuckling softly, Denarius' eyes strayed away from the two ponies as he swayed his body back and forth casually trudging through the snow.

"Aa-aak!"

Kricket - free finally to explore to his hearts content - whizzed joyfully about Willows head - nipping her gently on the ear before flitting away ahead of the other ponies. He wasn't bored exactly - just curious and playful: wondering exactly what he might find tucked away. Maybe he could find something good to eat! After all - he might be sustained by magic, but actual food was so much more satisfying, not to mention tastier.

Gliding low through the air with one etherial claw trailing lightly through the snow - the cold elemental weaved between the legs of the ponies gleefully as he took point, glowing happily ahead of them by some distance.

---------------

Orion Starsinger.

Orion sighed quietly under his breath - exhausted. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Everything seemed to be against him and he knew that it would stay that way until he could find some way to overcome his abrupt return to mortality. It wasn't even just paranoia caused by the Litany any more - there was no Litany to cause such a feeling!

Just that vile feeling of detachment...

'If I can't find a way to restore some semblance of order - these two are going to squabble until we freeze to death.'' He thought uneasily as he marched on. It wasn't much of a march - given the snows depth, the cave would still have been visible behind them if he cared to look.

Autumn and Silver

Autumn yawned as she picked up yet another unfinished letter. How long had she been doing this? It felt like she had started picking papers up hours ago. Had she really written so many? It was a wonder she hadn't run out of inkwells long before Noble and his entourage had shown up. Who was Noble, really? He hadn't always been an Alicorn, had he? Why did he want her to help him? What was he trying to do? Who were the other two ponies? All of these question and more flooded Autumn's mind...there were too many questions that couldn't be answered right now. Autumn shook her head, doing her best to force them out of her mind. Instead, she looked around the room. There was still too much trash and Silver could wake up any moment.

Autumn started gently flapping her wings. The remaining papers began to slowly drift towards the fireplace. Probably should have just done this from the beginning, it's much faster. Autumn thought as she maneuvered her wings to push the papers into one big pile. With a few stronger flaps the majority of the papers flew into the fire. The rest she tossed in by wing and mouth. One final look around the room proved that everything had been taken care of...now all that was left to do was wait for Silver to wake up. Autumn walked over to the bed that the mare was resting on. She certainly looked like Silver... her mane and coat were exactly the right shades of purple and gray. Silver's cutie mark was correct too. It felt like Silver. It had to be her.

Autumn stared at the mare, unsure of what to do about the situation. She was tired, it had been days since she had last slept....not to mention how emotionally draining this had been. Autumn began to flap her wings, just enough to hover over the ground. She moved past Silver, so that she was in between the wall and the sleeping mare. She slowly descended onto the bed, being careful to not disturb her daughter. This far away from the fire, the room felt cold. Autumn draped a wing over Silver, and moved closer to her. Autumn fully intended to watch over the mare until she woke up. However, the call of sleep proved too much.

Mirror Image internally sighed. She was glad that Scribbler had changed subjects from how much he trusted her. Ponies that were so open about how they felt always made her nervous. She looked ahead at Orion. Besides Scribbler he was probably the closest of her companions to being a friend. "He has been acting off lately. I'll be back in a few minutes....I'm going to try to talk to him." Mirror said as she began to walk faster, doing her best to close the distance between herself and Orion.

After several minutes of trudging through the snow, she eventually caught up to him. She walked closer than she normally would...mainly for the warmth of being next to another pony, it would also help to keep others from listening in. "Orion, are you alright? You've been...acting a bit differently than you were before."

@ @everyone else in Kingfishers group!

After looking at the notes for a few more minutes, Crimson finally put them down and trotted downstairs. Once he descended the stairs, he noticed the smell stirfry coming from the kitchen, but ignored it. Ever since his nightmares started from letting Noble get away, he hasn't felt like eating very often. Instead, Crimson chose a quite corner of the room, and slumped against it, pulling the rim of his hat down over his eyes, and quickly falling asleep.

However, instead of a peaceful, dreamers slumber, like the pirate was hoping for, he found himself in a dark, dull, colorless, and ruined Equestria. But that wasn't the worst part, Crimson's eyes widened in horror as he saw headstones, headstones and graves as far as the eye could see. "No...this isn't real...this isn't real, you idiot! Snap out of it!!" he mumbled. He kept repeating this, until he noticed what the headstones had engraved into them, they read. "Here lies Kingfisher, adventurer of the sea. Here lies Redwave, adventurer of the seas, here lies Pavisa, the last guard of Equestria, here lies Aegis, writer and adventurer." After reading this Crimson realized that many of the graves in front of him were his friends and Allis in the group. Just as he thought he couldn't take anymore, Crimson backed up into a gravestone that read, to his great shock and horror. "Here lies Crimson Grinn, the one who failed his friends and loved ones." back up slowly, shaking his head. "This isn't real...none of this is real...we haven't lost yet, damn it!!" he shouted, his breath hitching.

After a few moments of silence, an unexpected reply came out of nowhere. "It's all your fault...you killed everyone...you let Noble get away...you let everyone down...you failed..." said the whispering voice. Crimson looked around everywhere for the source, but couldn't find anything. "Where are you!? Who are you?! Stop lying!!" he yelled. The voice responded. "Look around...I'm not lying...you have failed...you let everyone die..." said the voice. Crimson was panting now. "Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!!!" He yelled. With this, a figure appeared from behind a nearby dead tree, and trotted up to him. Crimson shook his head as he recognized the figure. "It can't be...your dead...I KILLED YOU!!" He yelled, sweating and panting. The figure was Crimson's dead father, wearing a twisted grin. "Hahahaha...how pathetic you are...still clinging to imagination...what you don't realize, my sad excuse for a son, is that I'm alive...and you have already failed everyone...even your dear sister..." said the stallion with sick pleasure in his voice, before stepping away from the tree to reveal something that caused Crimson's blood to run cold, and his heart to stop.

There was another figure near the tree, or to be more precise, laying next to it. The figure was Crimson's poor sister, laying lifelessly on the cold, wet ground. Crimson's eyes filled with tears and he fell to his knees. "No...please, no...NO!!" He yelled, closing his eyes and slamming his hoof into the ground, his rage and sorrow so high from the dream, that both his body in the dream as well as his body in the real world, had ignited in flames, tears streaming from their eyes as they roared in sadness.

((Sorry for the REALLY long post, guys. I just wanted to put Crimson decent into borderline insanity, into good detail...I hope this didn't sound TOO cheesy...oh, and somepony might want to wake Crimson up before he burns the house down...))

It is like trying to contain lightning, far beyond the energy I have been able to contain with my technology.. Er.. do try to keep yourself pointed away from others though.. Scribbler was alone now, everypony else had moved away, ahead or behind. They were a loose group now, and he began to have his doubts that this would bode well for their future. How could they possibly deal with the greatest threat Equestria had ever known if they couldn't even overcome their own internal differences? He pondered this point, and began to think of how he could possibly make things more fluid. Though much of the group's dissonance seemed to be originating with Orion's temperment. The Litany must still have been affecting him, or perhaps the lack thereof? He couldn't be certain of anything, and that's precisely what bothered him most.

The clouds had begun to part in places, the sunlight shining through in patches, and his eyes began to ache. Scribbler shook his head, realizing he'd forgotten to throw his goggles on again. That thought passing his mind, he reached for them, and placed them on, adjusting the tint to the proper level, then quickly trotted to catch back up to the group once again. He could feel his head beginning to throb again, so he powered up his healing spell, allowing it to flow over him. Once again, the soothing, numbing feeling washed over him. He was beginning to feel more powerful again, though he knew straining wouldn't be an option if he intended to heal fully. The spell was great for aiding in the healing process, but it was only that, an aid. There was no replacement for the body's own natural regenerative ability. Scribbler raised a hoof to the stitching on his head, dabbing at it, and noting that it seemed to have almost disappeared. The spell was definitely doing it's job well. He smiled, realizing this, and breathed in deep, filling his lungs with the brisk cold air. He owed his life to the others, were they not there for him, he'd have perished in the cavern.

Wish I could help more but... y'know. Earth pony - not too great with magic." She shrugged - it wasn't a particularly good thing to joke about but the relief that Pavisa wasn't going to die was hard to displace - it lightened her mood a little.

"C'mon, its not all bad. Takes some getting used to - seeing you with a horn - but it kind if suits you in a weird way. I'd look a right idiot with one... least you'll still look good while we figure how to reverse... whatever caused it!"

Shrugging off her own comments, she waved back at the papers.

"Nothing really useful except the map. There's something I don't like about this place but... I can't quite put my hoof on it. Pavisa

@,

"I know, I'm an earth pony too, remember?"  She may have had a temporary (at least she hoped!) horn, but Pavisa wasn't about to refer to herself as a unicorn.  "And I'm fine, at least physically...  Passed the Doc's check up, anyways."

She was still upset over what had happened, but hearing Kingfisher try and make light of it, to lighten her mood...  Pavisa couldn't help but smile slightly.  Though the smile was quickly overshadowed by the blush creeping onto her cheeks as Fisher's comments turn from reassuring to actual compliments.  She was glad the other mare turned her attention back to the map, because there was no way she'd be able to hide it.

"Paranoid's better'n dead."  While Fisher was looking towards the the map, Pavisa reached for her helmet laying on the table, hoping to be able to put it on and hide her blush the way she'd usually hide something like that.  "Your instincts have worked out well enough for us so far...  If ya think somethings up, I'll stay on my hooves-"  'clink' "oh, buck me!"  The edge of her helmet had come to rest right at the base of her new horn...  The Guard had helmets specifically made for unicorns - Pavisa's wasn't one of them.

She tosses her now useless helmet on the ground, grumbling quietly.  She knew she was acting like a spoiled filly by getting upset over the loss of her helm, but she couldn't help herself...  It guarded her in more ways than just physically.  On duty it had helped mask that she was a mare, and even in conversation it helped to mask her facial expressions.  Would the others had listened to her the times before if they'd been able to see the look of fear in her eyes, kept hidden by the piece of armour?  Not to mention the embarrassed flush creeping across her face right now.

Kingfishers face - while perhaps not as stoic and unreadable as it had been up until the past few weeks - gave little away about her thought process: she wondered briefly about her friend - about the implications of what was happening to her... about the red tint that had crept up on her face...

The wards on the shack were delayed - as if placed in some ancient time - but still worked. As the fire touched the wooden floor, they sparked into life.

With a musical chime they mirrored the effects of the magic - intense heat countered by intense cold - as what was initially flickering tendrils of red and yellow froze in place - flash frozen into place.

The sounds started to warp. Crystalline chiming becoming dull and twisted as the counter-spell failed and became unstable - the temperature plummeting suddenly around the pirate to such a decree that shards of ice formed instantaneously from the very water vapour in the air.

The fire was gone... all of it. The warmth might have been list but at least the spell had done its job - the walls were as intact as before.

...

@,

The spell from Eclipse though, had curiously little effect. Far from triggering the wards, it simply struck and smoked where it had hit for a short while: the point of impact looked damaged - ruined even - but the damage seemed to recover quickly: fading back into perfection over the space of a few seconds.

The hooded mare pulled the now-empty supply cart back into the castle grounds - passing by the guards and stopping to briefly speak to a few on her way past - she was known for coming and going from the castle and even in the current crisis it seemed anything but unusual. Replacing the cart as close the the armoury door as she could without raising suspicion, she glanced about and removed the robe - shaking herself in relief of her freedom from the claustrophobic feeling it gave her.

Nopony had questioned her - which was good. She had no doubt that Celestia would have agreed that her actions were the right thing to do: but without the princess to authorise anything, she had to argue endlessly with the high counsel - which was useless. All they cared about was themselves: lock down the castle, protect the nobles... It would have been foolish to outright rebel, but she couldn't in good conscience just ignore the ponies that needed help outside the castle walls.

The hushed atmosphere that had gripped the castle recently gave her pause, before she reminded herself that the castle always sounded that way since the princesses of the sun and moon had simply vanished.

"Once more... perhaps the royal armoury this time?"

It was risky: better guarded, further away... but there was nothing left worth taking in the guardspony armoury - nothing that hadn't already been distributed or stolen.

Emerald strode purposefully into the armoury if the royal guard: stern look on her face as her heart thudded against her chest. Still - it was for a good cause... Maybe with equipment, the ponies on the fringes of the city would be able to get this thing under control where the guard had failed.

@@Windbreaker,

Icarus came downstairs, ready for some food.

"I see you were successful at finding something too cook with. Excellent" Icarus said to Aegis as he took his share of the stir fry.

Icarus went t an abandoned corner of the cabin and removed his mask to eat the food. After a few bites,he smiledf. This food was a nice change from the flavorless freeze dried rations he usually ate.

Stahl

@,

Stahl sighed and shook his head, trying to flip his mane out of his face.  It worked for a couple of seconds, before it quickly fell back into his line of vision.  Patrol duty in the castle - not the kind of assignment he had wanted.  He should be out on the streets trying to keep the peace.  He HAD been on the streets during his free time, trying to remind the citizens that the Guard was still there, even if it was just him...  But the higher ups were doing everything in their power to keep him where they could keep a close eye on him.

Their excuses were weak and stupid, but Stahl couldn't go against a direct order...  They were trying to goad him into that, and he knew it.  After what had happened with Pavisa, others in the barracks had started to whisper.  Not where they knew Stahl could overhear them, but he heard them all the same.  The most ludicrous of the rumors even went so far as to say little Pavi had been a changeling, because of the way her CO and his wife had been attacked that night...  And some had even started extending the accusation to Stahl.

The stallion pauses to look out one of the windows at Canterlot, once again wishing he could get out there onto the streets...  It was times like this when he wished he had more pull with the Guard.  He didn't mind guarding the castle when the royal sisters were there, he could think of worse ways to spend his time than protecting the two beautiful alicorns, but the council?  They were a bunch of stuck up old ponies who were barely worthy of holding a shield themselves, let alone expecting somepony to hold one for them...

With another sigh, Stahl turns away from the window.  Though he pauses when he spies a mare making her way into the royal guard's armory.  Well well, what is going on here?  He'd recognized the mare - he had (unfortunately) never had a chance to speak with her, but he'd seen her around the castle before.  Glancing around Stahl didn't see anypony else nearby...  So, the stallion shrugged and walked towards the armory.

He stood blocking the doorway, watching what she was doing here in the armory, tilting his head in curiosity.  She seemed to be going through some of the armour...  What was going on here?  After watching the mare for a couple of moments Stahl decides to make his presence known.  His voice is completely calm as he speaks, a friendly tone more than anything.  "That helmet really doesn't go with your mane, you know.  What exactly are you hoping to find, milady?"
