Pointless Video Game Characters

There's at least one pointless character in every single video game franchise. That character that serves little to no purpose in the game story-wise or gameplay-wise.

But, you tell me; can you think of any pointless characters in any games you've played off the top of your head? If so, who are they?

A pointless video game character that I could think of is, Sean from Street Fighter III: Third Strike. His moveset was basically pretty lazy, since it was copying Ryu and Ken's moveset.

Megaman X Command Mission's party members that weren't X, Zero or Axl. It wasn't that they were useless(they were all very useful in fact), but the story practically forgets that they exist after they're introduced, Marino in particular.

These guys were pretty pointless. I mean, I guess they were good for gaining a few levels since they only ever showed up in only 3 different locations and you could just fly between a few cities and get a guaranteed fight out of them. But yeah, other than that, Gabby and Ty from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were pretty pointless

The Big Blue from Ecco the Dolphin. Sure, he was awesome to look at and terrifyingly beautiful just like the rest of the game, but all the other characters in the game tell you to go find him so he can help you because he's so old and wise, then when you get there he's like: "Sorry, I have no idea what's going on. Go talk to this other guy who knows more than me."

good thing super smash bros universe is suposadly getting rid of that although they have male and female wii fit trainers

Sure he evolves into the ever so awesome Gyarados, but in this form he is rather useless. Splash, Splash, Splash.

 

This is a mistake that most common folk make; Immediately discounting Magikarp because all he knows is Splash.

 

But this thing... is on a whole other level. He doesn't need anything other than Splash, because his simple lifeless gaze pierces even the most steadfast of trainers and beasts, completely engulfing his prey in a nightmare they brought upon themselves. His gaping mouth imitates the very expression that will forever be left on his victims, to those who believed "He's just a fish." 

 

He taunts you. Teases you. Makes you drop your guard because all he seems to do is splash on the ground. You think he's just playing in the water, when it actuality he's tolling the bell, signaling the beginning of the end and the folly of those foolish enough to invoke his wrath, his fury, his rage.

 

You think you know fear? You think you know what it feels like to be afraid? You don't know what fear is until you hear that bone chilling sound echoing through your body, pulsating from ear to ear that eclipses all rational thought and all reason. A sound that slowly drives even the very gods of the Pokemon world to their knees.

 

Splash, splash, splash...

Well, I guess I'll let a few of mine out there.

I could go on for hours, but I'll just name two:

1. Cream the Rabbit (Sonic the Hedgehog)

2. Waluigi (Super Mario)

Can we at least agree that those characters serve little purpose in anything?

Marines in Halo. Honestly, all they do is get bucking killed.

Biggs and Wedge in all final fanasty games they are in, just a shout out to starwars

 

Jogurt in Shining Force, that game had a lot of usless character but he was just in there to get a Jogurt ring which just tranformed the character that used it into a Jogurt

At least Magikarp evolves into something useful. You want absolutely pointless?

 

Try Unown. That thing only has ONE move, crap stats, and five jillion forms... which are only cool in flavor text and not actual gameplay. It's frustrating, because they have so much potential to be awesome and powerful.

Ungagga (Dark Cloud)

Fusoya, Edward... actually, quite a few from that game(Final Fantasy IV)

Claves (Eternal Sonata) literally only stays alive for like two dungeons... then you get a wonderfully ridiculous death scene

Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII)

Kimhari (Final Fantasy X)

Almost all the characters in the mario series I find pointless, they're either there for more characters, or just for the parallel version of a character that exists.

 

Examples like waluigi, daisy, and birdo.

She started in Mario 2, and still exists.

Don't really see any purpose.
