Anyone else very dissatisfied with these five episodes?

I didn't complain that she was gonna be completely different when it happened. I had no problem with Twilicorn up until this point. You are addressing a hypocrisy of other Twilicorn haters, which is fine, but I never made such a statement.

You still are willing to accept wings with no explanation over her neck being just a little longer.  Do you honestly not understand how ridiculous that is?

It did, but it was much less jarring, considering that Twilight is an alicorn princess now.

More jarring than Twilight going the party of a little filly that is a complete monster she doesn't even know?  More jarring than her taking part in a race for absolutely no reason?

Since you don't seem to be paying attention to the episodes in question, I'll clear things up.

  • In Castle-Mania, Twilight was there to research the Tree of Harmony, tying the episode to the overarcing plot, and was the voice of reason at the end.
  • In Daring Don't, she was there to talk sense into Rainbow Dash.  She was the only other member of the mane six that actually had a reason to be there.
  • In Power Ponies, she was refurbishing the castle.
  • In Bats!, she was helping a friend (obviously a princess would never help a friend).

So it seems that you are completely wrong.  "Oh, she shouldn't be doing that stuff because she's a princess."  Wasn't that covered in the premier?  Yeah, it totally was.  Her being a princess does not mean that she's not going to be there when Rainbow Dash or Applejack need her.  Her friends are far more important to her than any royal duties.  Yeah, Twilight should totally pass on going to Manehatan and supporting Rarity just because she has a royal title.  That wouldn't be completely out of character for her. :okiedokielokie:

You are resorting to a baseless (unless you can read my mind O.O) ad-hominem. I never stated a personal disdain for the Twilicorn itself, the execution is what bothers me about it.

Saying someone's reason is faulty because he's a troll is an ad hominem; saying someone is a troll because his reason is faulty is not.  To know when someone is using an ad hominem, you have to be able to see that they aren't using logic in their argument.

I didn't just say that you were complaining for the sake of it.  I took all three of your points and made it quote clear how nonsensical they were.  Only after I presented the evidence of the fact did I claim it to be so.

Complaining about the length of Twilight's neck, while accepting her unexplained wings redefines what it means to be hypocritical.  And acting as though she should be acting differently flies in the face of her established personality.

Yeah, stuff should be judged by the standards it imposes upon itself. That's why I can't accuse Spongebob of having under-developed characters.

But the problem is that MLP has set it's own standards and sometimes fails to meet them. It tries to develop it's characters by giving them a lesson, but they all go back to being the same they were in earlier episodes.

For example, in Magic Duel, there's this "action" scene that utterly fails due to Twilight being on the constant defensive.

As for your last argument, I realized long ago that the show has many, many flaws. The newer episodes on average have not had more or less flaws than the previous ones. The reason as to why I (or other people) don't complain about them as much is because they are rarely the topic of conversation nowadays.

Also, am I the only that has noticed that many bronies have a tendency to view the series though VERY rose-tinted glasses?

"The best defense is a good offense"

Then maybe that mean's Doug's point is proving true, and the good has gotten good enough to finally completely overshadow the bulk of the flaws for most of us.

Maybe because when you really love a piece of media, and it really feels special to you, you're going to be more inclined to forgive the flaws.

AGAIN! I'm not saying I prefer wings with no explanation, I'm perfectly fine with the alicorn thing, the thing about the neck is just a minor nitpick that I stated more to make a point than to be used as a legitimate complaint.

Huh, I had never considered it that way before, good point.

1: Those were minor nitpicks, I posted them to make a point, rather than to be taken as a valid complaint.

2: The Twilicorn neck is just preference. AGAIN, I'm fine with Twilicorn, but the neck does bother me somewhat.

3: Here's the assumption you made that I called an ad hominem (inaccurately, in retrospective):

The idea to make Twilight a princess didn't crash and burn the way you expected it to, so now you feel obligated to harp on complete non-issues.

And people wonder why I accuse the anti-twicorn movement of just nitpicking and bitching for the sake of it.....

Also, make up you'r damn mind. First y'all complain about the major changes it could bring to her personality and place in the show, then ya complain about her not changing enough.

This is relevant, Shoboni, only because some people who liked the Twilicorn idea justified it on the grounds that it could take her character and the show in interesting new directions. But so far, almost everything Twilight has done since the transformation could have been done just as well sans wings and crown. That's what he's talking about--that the "it will benefit her character" argument isn't valid because almost nothing has changed. Which is partly good, because we didn't want big changes in the first place, but it also makes the change look like a shallow concession to Hasbro by the writers.  -_-

And this isn't the place to be talking about it anyway. The change aside, Season 4 has had a pretty strong start in my view.

I have noticed that it lost a bit of it's quality - It's not as enjoyable as before - but it's still great.

It seems to get a bit off. Since we now know the characters very well, we can see every flaws.

I hope it will eventually get better.

Also:

Canterlot: around 19th century

Maneattan: Uber technology and screens.

Exactly my point, you explained it much better than I could have.

@Shoboni, here's a perfect example of what I mean:

Just wanted to apologize for all of my senseless and baseless bashing of this season for no good reason. After looking back I can say I really have loved each and every one of these episodes. My complaining was all mindless and pulled out of thin air, I really just wasn't thinking straight. Sorry for any annoyance I may have caused. I absolutely love Season 4 with all my heart. /) (\

Sorry for reviving an old topic, I just wanted to get this off my chest.

You are joking, right?

Seriously, I really thought you had very good personal points.

If that's true, that you love every S4 episode, I would like to hear what do you think of each episode now.

Grettings!
