Need help finding a new video card

Hello! I need a bit of advice. I currently have this desktop computer:

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03517389-7%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&sp4ts.oid=5295996&ac.admitted=1390943545561.876444892.492883150 (URL shorteners are for wimps)

With this video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814196047

It's a good video card, and can play quite a few games. However, it's not good enough for being a true gamer. I don't really know how video cards work, I'm more into computer chips and memory. Can someone please recommend some replacements for me?

My needs:

Less than 600 dollars (Preferably 400)

Fairly good for gaming

Thank you so much for reading, and thank you again if you reply! :)

Awesome! Thanks! Do I need to know anything before I buy and install it?

Uh well unless you are going to play like crysis 3 maxed with 4 monitors or something, a card like the GeForce GTX 760 will most likely deal with whatever you throw at it. idk about the price but it shouldn't go for more than 300 bucks

GTX 760 is a fairly dependable GPU.

Fits into your budget.

Yes, it'll work. I looked it up. Although the PCI Express x16 2.0 slot will be a bit of a bottleneck, but it shouldn't be too much of one.

Also, it'll let you join the glorious nVIDIA master race.

you sneaky ninja. It's funny how we mentioned the same one xD

I agree with this guy. I have a GTX 650 after burner OC 2GB. and mine works rather fine with a AMD quadcore pocessor black edition

Uninstall the AMD drivers before you upgrade. Also, make sure the PSU can meet the power requirements. nVIDIA recommends a 500W power supply for the 760, although the GPU draws 170W.

GTX 770 Superclocked by EVGA, That is what I have in my system. The only thing I cannot run on Ultra so far is Metro 2033, because it's Metro and that game eats video cards to breakfast.

(Also a good book btw)

Full system specs

i5 4670K
MSI GD65-Z87 Mobo
EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked
16GB DDR3 (1600)
TX 650
ADATA SX900 128GB SSD
1TB HD
NZXT Tempest 410 Elite

Depends what kind of PCI version you got. You need to look that up.

edit: The card you got has PCI express 2.0 and the 760 has Pci express 3.0, it's the same type but different versions, however it should work just fine.

Also, make sure you don't have a way too weak PSU. However, unless your computer is 8 years old or something, I doubt it.

Uninstall the AMD drivers before you upgrade. Also, make sure the PSU can meet the power requirements. nVIDIA recommends a 500W power supply for the 760, although the GPU draws 170W.

STOP NINJAINGNGNGNGN ME! ;_;

Anyways, I have the 760 myself and I can play every game I got in in maxed settings, so you'll be fine :)

In my area the R9 280x is priced lower than this, but should be around the same power.

So my recommendation is the R9 280x ;)

@,

Hm turn off the computer and make sure it's not connected to any electricity, open it up and look for the PSU.

Look at the sticker like this

ultra_500w.jpg

and if it says anything near 500W (which this one has) like >420 you're good.

In my experience, the PSU requirement has been more to do with the total number of +/-12V amps, not watts. For instance, my previous PSU was 500W, but totalled 36A (with two 18A rails). That may not be an exact measurement though, as it was a bit of an off-brand manufacturer (XCLIO). Anyway, it wasn't quite capable of powering my newer GTX 670 card, and I ended up getting a new PSU for it made by Corsair.

The one in the image above totals 28A from what I can tell.
(The one that didn't work)

I don't see why everyone always jumps on the Nvidia bandwagon. Same can be said for people always jumping on the Intel bandwagon.

But in this case I see why, as it is the best power for value card in his price range.

Geez, I am still running a 4870, and it still suits my gaming needs just fine.
