gaming Your reaction if Nintendo went third party

I wouldn't do anything because they're more likely to close shop than to go third party.

That said if they did go third party it would suck massive pokeballs

Anyway, it's not going to happen.  Not just because Nintendo said they'd stop making games when they stop making hardware.  But also because Nintendo isn't in a position where that would be profitable.  Yes, they've been in the red for 2 years (do I hear 3?), but Sony has been in the red and in debt for over 5.  Nintendo still has over 10 billion USD in the bank and can last through another few years of lackluster sales if they have to.

I'd be a little sad to see them go, I have plenty of good memories with the Gamecube after all, but then I'd rejoice at the fact that I wouldn't have to buy a Nintendo console for the few Nintendo exclusives I actually like.

Id probably shed a tear. Nintendo was a big part of growing up for me and I still thoroughly enjoy their games. I'd rather see them shut down entirely than become just another third party developer.

Am I the only one that actually would be happy? I'd love to play Legend of Zelda on the PS4, or Super Smash Brothers on the XBOX One. Who also wouldn't want Pokemon on the consoles, too?

They should! Make more money like SEGA did. Third parties turn more of a profit and the first parties are 100% reliant on them. Nintendo's days are over and people need to accept it and move on. Nintendo doesn't care about their hardcore audience.

Do you have any proof that third parties make more profit?

Well simple,

Software is cheap to mass produce with digital downloads

Hardware can be top of the line, but does it have games?

Look at steam! They're third party and now they're making money of third party developers

Nintendo has always made a profit on their hardware. They even made a profit on the N64 and Gamecube.

Yeah but the Wii U failed. Even they have admitted to it. I wanted a wii u, but there is no reason for me to buy one. I was bred on Nintendo as a kid, so it hurts me too.

No one plays anything on the Xbox One, and you know it.  Honestly, Sony needs Nintendo to help it put Microsoft out of this business so good companies can thrive.

If Nintendo were to go third party now, they would have to expect every single game they release to sell over 10 million copies just to maintain their size.  Also, comparing them to Sega is completely moronic.  Sega spent ten years in the red and in debt before they had to drop out of the console market.  You want to know how bad it was?  The Dreamcast was actually the best selling console of the sixth generation, if you adjust for how long it was on the market.  The number of sales Sega needed to get in the black were so high that even success wasn't enough.  Nintendo is in nowhere near that position.  SONY is nowhere near that position.

Nearly 6 million units worldwide, nearly 20 million games sold in total (which helps make up for loss in hardware sales), first 8th gen game to be named Game of the Year, and being praised by the president of Sony.  You have a weird idea of what failure is.

This is hilarious.  Sony and Microsoft have always sold consoles at a loss, but it's only a problem when it happens to Nintendo.  Sure, this is irregular for 30-years-in-the-black Nintendo, but it's nothing close to failure.  If it were a failure, Nintendo wouldn't have faith in it.  And they know exactly what failure looks like:

All right, I think I'll stop right there before I go into a mad rage.

I'm not anti Nintendo. But you need to realize Sony and Microsoft are not just gaming companies. Sony is actually going bankrupt and the PS4 for them was right place, right time. Even though that system has major issues.

Nintendo is NOT going third party. Even if they eventually do, it won't be for a VERY long time. The sales they've gotten from both the Wii U and 3DS are sure to keep them comfortably afloat for awhile.

But, if they did go third party, I think all innovation that could be had in the industry on consoles will be pretty much dead. We would still have PC, but that wouldn't matter to me. It would say a lot about the gaming community, a lot of bad things. It would mean that we pretty much abandoned gaming's roots. Nintendo IS gaming's roots, and the only reason people are still bashing it is because

A. They're bias towards the company

and/or

B. They're very uneducated about the industry and have no idea what's fact.

I wouldn't really care that much, it would just make it easier for me to get ahold of their games.

This made me laugh. Thanks for that.

First off, there are plenty of people that play X1s.

3.9 million people have bought X1s in 2 months. The Wii U has sold 5.86 million. And even if you decide to compare it to the PS4 "dominance" you still are only behind by 300,000 people. So obviously, they are still plenty of people that are playing on the X1.

It's almost a guarantee that in less than 6 months, that the X1 will have sold tons more than the Wii U has sold in over a year.

And, also, we all know that Nintendo is not going out of business, or third party, anytime soon. So yeah.

Nice try, but Nintendo still only spend a couple years in the red.  It took a decade before going third party was profitable for Sega.

I recommend you watch this with a grain of salt

He's an arrogant prick.

You're an idiot.  The Wii U sold that well in it's first month.  Nice to know that when Microsoft is trying everything it can think of, it can just barely match Nintendo's sales when they aren't even trying.

And that isn't stupid enough for you, you have to tell me seriously that with NO GAMES coming out, the Xbox One is going to sell better than the Wii U.  It's $200 more expensive!  Not a chance.  Especially with no games in comparison to these two:

Hope you enjoy a pointless passthrough for your cablebox, because that's all it will be for the next 10 months.

What is it with consoles and turning people into complete dicks? They're all brand spankin' new; you can't just go around saying "[x] HAS FAILED EVEN THOUGH IT HASN'T EVEN HAD A CHANCE YET, GUISE. I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT." It's like... shut up. You aren't some kind of time-traveller that's seen the future and knows exactly how well these consoles will do in advance.

I wouldn't mind if they went third party. There'd only be two consoles to chose from, and I miss the days when new Nintendo games used your average controller as opposed to remote controls or touch screens.
